  1. to people who continue to post how 1M is so small, or it should be in dollars.. either create a new topic, move to other thread with your money , buy a new pair of glasses or spend your money to learn new ways on how to comprehend.

..because that's what this thread is all about... how you earned your FIRST MILLION IN PESOS..

i created this thread as an avenue to share your stories to inspire other people.. now to boast how you already have more than that or you earn dollars and earning in pesos is so pedestrian..

.. this is a milestone for most people, and you have to start somewhere..

    goodluck

  2. the only ISP in the listed stocks is Philweb.. PLDT was reported to be interested in buying a portion of Philweb..

it's not an ISP anymore. PhilWeb is now an online casino company, one of the few listed in Asia and in the world, online gaming being a highly regulated industry in the US.

The planned buy-in by PLDT is through its Internet arm, ePLDT, which is also owns Netopia (internet cafes), Infocom (ISp), Vitro (data center), Airborne Access (wireless services), MySecureSign (digital certificates); Spoon Interactive (game development), Vocative (call center); Parlance (call center); BayanTrade (e-commerce); Stradcom (which owns a 10-yr franchise in LTO's computerization).

PLDT's planned acquisition of 20% in Philweb is the company's way of seeking more revenues due to flattening revenues from its main moneymaker, Smart. Philweb has an exclusive license to provide online casino/sportsbetting technology to the governments number one moneymaker, PAGCOR. Online casinos have an estimated annual revenues of $7 billion to $10 billion dollars, so even a small percentage translates to a huge income for companies involved in online gaming.

With the introduction of 3G technology, PLDT with it's plannedd acquisition of PhilWeb, will have another source of revenue, betting in online casinos through the use of mobile phones. In an article in VOA News, it was noted that remote casino-style gambling is only allowed in Macau and in the Philippines.

In Asia-Pacific region alone, close to 100 million people will use their mobile phones to gamble by the year 2010.

  3. I never said tying yourself to one million...the title says making your first million....one million is a milestone...You don't go from zero to 5 million..to most Filipinos it takes years even generations to reach that milestone. ..if you made that through real estate..then post it.. if you made it through stocks..then post it..if you are an OFW who saved enough..then post it... there is really no point in making fun of those who are aiming to make their first. ..even the multibillionaire taipans like Henry Sy, John Gokongwei , and Lucio Tan had to struggle to make their first, they never made comments on how small a million is.. In fact, they emphasized that your should value how you made your first. That is why I created this thread, to emphasize the importance of making your first, a milestone which separates you from the masses.

Thug,, I suggest that you create your own "multimillions" thread if you consider one million "hilarious" and "funny:..... you have already emphasized more than enough that your are a multimillionaire and you consider a million a mere change in your pockets, then why post in this thread?.. this thread is for those who are aiming to make their "first"..unless you are too intellectually-challenged to understand that idea, these exchanges will never end...on the other hand, you are welcome to post how you made your multimillions.

  4. Do you really understand what this thread is all about?

Creating your first million on your own. ... not million based on the value of home/land which are illiquid assets .. i dont care if you value the "present" million as less than a million compared to 20 yrs ago...As long you made a made your first million ..you are free to post here to inspire other people.

If your point is to show us that you are multimillionaire now, and you consider the current "one million" as too small for your taste.... you have already made your point... a person with a million pesos in his pocket now is a millionaire. (in pesos that is).. .... why don't you just tell your story on how you made yours instead of posting comments that are not significant to this thread.

basically you cannot call them self-made "millionaires".. the term "millionaire" does not actually refer to a Filipino having a house worth 1 million pesos isn't it?  otherwise, a lot of Filipinos will be "millionaires".. you have 1 million peso house and what does that make you? a lower-middle class Filipino citizen..

it could be applicable 20 years ago when 26 pesos trades to 1 dollar.. but with the depreciation of the peso.. coupled with inflation.. nope..having 1 million pesos asset or net worth does not mean that person should be called "millionaire".

i mean, we don't expect this same question to prop up in future conversations, like 10 years from now.. tieing yourself to 1 million pesos now and 10 yrs from now will be hilarious..

  5. Read this note before you post anything . I dont care if you think 1 million pesos is a paltry sum, i dont care if you think 1 M is just worth 200 k today. this thread is for how you made your 1st million" . Is'nt the title clear enough for you people? .. you can create you own thread of how you made you first 4 million or first 100 million if you wish.

" It's not impt if Mr. Sy. said it 5 yrs ago, 20 yrs or yesterday. A million bucks in pesos is still a big amount of money for most Filipinos. If you can earn it and "keep" it in a day... good. legally? better..without working for someone? best.

I created this thread not as a bragging post for how much you earn or to comment how paltry a sum a million pesos is. This was created to inspire people who despite slaving for years, and earning millions in gross salaries, ...are still showing flat or zero, or worse..negative.. in their net worth,

..this is not for those who inherited millions or business from their parents.

.. this is not for those who earn in dollars .

    ..

this is a thread for self-made millionaires who despite hardships and challenges in surviving in the Philippines' environment of political instability and economic woes ...have made it on their own..

    thanks.. "

i really think that 1 million this days is not a big amount of money.. when Henry Sy mentioned that "the only hard part is the 1st 1 million".. he mentioned that when he 1st open his 1st SM in avenida in 1983.. so you see.. that was 1983..

in 1983, 1 million pesos is a big amount of money... if you consider the average cost of inflation pegged at 7% per annum.. 1 million pesos that time will now be equivalent to.. 4.1 million pesos.. ..

so i guess the thread title of first million is wrong as 1 million does not make anything out of you.. .. 1 million today is only worth around 200k during the time when Henry Sy mentioned "the only difficult part is the first million"  ..

the correct title of this thread should be "first 4 million pesos".. as what I have said.. considering the depreciation of peso with the rising cost of inflation at 7% .. 1 million peso is not a big sum of money to fuel you..  hell ya.. you cannot even buy a decent house for your family with 1 million pesos.. so its no big deal..

if you have less than 1 million pesos in the bank..then you are basically in trouble.. but having a million peso in the bank is not too uncommon..

  6. It's not impt if Mr. Sy. said it 5 yrs ago, 20 yrs or yesterday. A million bucks in pesos is still a big amount of money for most Filipinos. If you can earn it and "keep" it in a day... good. legally? better..without working for someone? best.

  8. herd behavior: sa isang kanto, bilangin mo kung ilan ang sari-sari stores. pag me nakita ok na business. kokopyahin na lang para "safe," ang resulta, lower market share and lower profitability sa lahat.

remember: the hot pandesal, lechon manok, shawarma, purified water and shagu crazes?. lately the multi-level marketing/pyramid schemes.

nung stock market boom in early 90s, gusto rin maglaro without thinking about the risks involved. kaya marami nalugi nun period na yun.

some people are more Popish than the Pope, this fellow feels more American than the Americans, 'hood slang and all, notwithstanding the fact that Guam is just an unincorporated territory of the US..a mere military installation of the US. . You are the lowest of the low.. Humarap ka sa salamin at tanungin mo sarili mo kung Kano ba ang tingin sa yo ng mga totooong Kano.

  10. Boss warhead. Do you trade stocks? Philippine Stocks or U.S.Stocks? Do you mind giving us tips on how to run business and trade stocks? Thanks a lot and I hope you make more on your undertakings.

local stocks lang. Yung lang drawback ng stock market natin. Limited lang issues na pwede mo trade actively. Some stocks are illiquid (meaning low volume, or not traded at all).

  11. just wana share some thoughts on DOLLAR COST AVERAGING or simply "cost averaging"...-method of accumulating assets by investing a FIXED AMOUNT of dollars or pesos in securities at SET INTERVALS(monthly,quarterly,semi-annual,annual). The investor buys more shares when the price is low and fewer shares when the price is high;the overall cost therefore is lower than it would be if constant number of shares were bought at sest intervals(compare it to buying stocks using min lot size).

it is widely used already in the US unlike here in the Phil, where Filipinos lack financial knowledge and options on where to invest their money. When they think of saving, sa banko kagad ang iniisip nila. Also, in general, it is diffucult and it takes discipline to save REGULARLY.

any thoughts or any ppl out there who has mf accounts that do DCA?

What made you think that Filipinos are not financially sophisticated . Do not generalize that Filipinos lack financial knowledge. Do you even know what you are talking about? With cost averaging, buying more shares when prices are low and buying less shares when prices are , what you get is nothing ..zero. Assuming a flat fluctuation of +2 and -2, you get zero returns. If the market is going down, you are in fact averaging down, which is a financially suicide, and the usual advice given by stupid financial advisors to amateur investors.

What you must do is wait for a market rebound and when indicators confirm an uptrend, average up. Meaning buy high, and sell higher.

Another piece of advice to fellow forumers, if you want to learn stock trading. You should buy the shares directly and not the mutual fund. There will be pains but you gain the experience and knowledge to succeed in the stock market. Read books on stock markets ( Expensive if new, butI usuallly buy them at second hand booksales).

  12. -- To fellow forumers who emailed/PMed, asking what e-business I run: There is no shortcut to success in e-commerce. You have to know what you love to do and then find a market for it. You have to enjoy doing it. I run my dotcom alone because I prefer working alone and I love what I do. As forum members, you are already a step ahead of the herd because you are Internet savvy. The tool to break the "barriers to entry" is already in your hands, use it. There is a wide market for goods and services out there, search for it.

To those who were asking about stock market trading, I am not a financial adviser/stock broker. I just enjoy stock trading. I look at it not as a source of income but as a game, and money is just a way of keeping score. Stock market is a mind game between buyers and sellers, you have to be prepared for it mentally.
