  1.

Yellow media na naman? I really hope people will have the good sense of realizing that the Yellow-tagging is ridiculous and absurd. Every news agency, every broadcasting unit, local and international, that run stories that are deemed counter to the narrative as presented by Duterte or Marcos are labeled Yellow and dismissed instead of probed for their accuracy.

It is a lazy comeback which works only for the most rabid pro-Duterte and pro-Marcos fanboys. Sa Mocha Uson Blog patok na patok yan, pero for this thread which purports to be participated in by the more cerebral members of this Forum, I don't think so.

As it stands, the truth is, VP Leni's position is the same as the NEDA's and in league with the opinion of Duterte's top economic managers. Care to criticize the position of Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez, Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez or top economist Ernesto Pernia? Yup, I didn't think so.

The yellow media tag refers to the biases of particular news organizations (e.g. ABS-CBN, PDI, etc.).

Because we derived (or copied) our system of journalism from the US, some readers and journalists operate under the assumption that the media is unbiased, when the reality of journalism is that a completely factual story can be heavily biased, simply through the presentation of facts (who is featured, the number of times certain facts are emphasized, etc.).

A better system is the English model, where the newspapers openly trumpet their biases; this allows readers to read reports with an awareness of where that particular news org is coming from.

Some people can choose to put on blinders, but one thing I like about the awareness of the yellow media (as well as pro-Duterte media orgs) is that it shows Filipino readers are (hopefully) becoming more discerning about what they read.

As for the mining issue, I'm not surprised that Leni is pro-mining, given the actions of the LP on that issue. At least there is the possibility of debate in this Cabinet: I sincerely hope Gina Lopez and other pro-environment supporters gain the upper hand over the mining bloc.

  2. I wouldn't trust Leni any farther than I can throw her (and being out-of-shape, I couldn't throw her that far), and I certainly hope the President feels the same way.

She's there like a vulture, waiting for the time when Partido Dilaw can throw something at Duterte that sticks. Next comes impeachment and President Leni. The problem with that is that it means a return of Drilon, Noyboy, and company.

  3. Not a Bongbong supporter, but I am anti-LP. I was hoping for a sweeping out of the LP candidates, just so we could show ourselves as a people that, when we are unhappy with the current administration, we DO have the power to sweep them out of office.

Instead, with familiar faces in the Senate and Congress, and an opportunistic Robredo (I don't apologize for the use of that adjective; nothing in her political decisions and actions proves otherwise) in the background, I worry for Duterte's administration.

Once the glow fades, expect Trillanes and company to renew attacks on Duterte, including impeachment complaints. If they can push him out of office, they have their pawn ready to advance to queen.

That's Bongbong's "plan B" scenario, right? But the reason that fear has gained traction among many people is that we've seen it before: Duterte as Erap, Leni as GMA. I participated in both EDSA I and II, but over the years I've come to regret those actions, as I've seen what the costs have been. I don't expect Duterte to be a perfect president, but I hope he will have a chance to complete his mandate, notwithstanding his mistakes. He earned that right by winning the election; I'm sick and tired of people circumventing the electoral mandate through impeachment complaints and the like.

I congratulate Leni, and hopes she serves as a loyal VP, not GMA part deux.

Regretfully, I will miss out on seeing Bongbong as Duterte's VP. As one drunken friend so eloquently put it: "Walang takot si Digong pag si Bongbong ang vp niya. Kung mamatay si Digong, bubuhayin sya ng mga dilaw para lang hindi maging presidente si Bongbong." I wonder if the Aquinos have a Raise Dead scroll handy for such an occasion.

  4. Your minion puno was searching robredo's office before the poor man was even in the ground.

What was he looking for noyboy? Was robredo dealing with his frustrations at being the first dilg chief without any control over the pnp by investigating one of your kabarilans?

  5. It is the economy, stupid!

I was hoping that if they got a quick impeachment of Corona, this stupid administration might finally focus on the economic problems.

But the backchannel talk is Malacanang is now readying list of other justices and judges to remove. When will this end?

  6. Have friends back from CDO ...

    WTF?

This idiot government said it was ready for the storm. I remember hearing one of the many presidential spokeshits saying that on TV. Then this???

If half of what I've heard is true, the media isn't even showing a tenth of the extent of this disaster! And it's going to get worse.

Noyboy, go back to Mindanao tell your kabarkadas to get their excrement together...

  7. I think it's much better if he makes a permanent and absolute solution to the former administration's blunder then blame the former administration.

    Why should he?

Why try to solve problems when he can keep blaming gma?

(With help from allies in the senate blue ribbon committee, just trot out new allegations whenever bad news -- like rising unemployment and inflation -- crop up.)

I saw this happen during the disaster that was the first aquino administration, and I expect the same or worse with the so-called "president of destiny."

  8. you are a breath of fresh air in this smoggy thread

    thickly populated by gma's 'superheroes'...

this sounds like the garbage coming from the malacanang press office:

to dare to voice any criticism of the noyboy means that you are automatically a gma supporter or ally.

personally, one of the programs of this government that I extremely dislike is the conditional cash transfer (cct) program.

this program started under gma, and I do blame her for contributing to the hand-out mentality of our poor countrymen (I prefer the system of welfare reform practiced in some US states, where you have to do public service to earn your welfare check)

but I can, and do, criticize the noyboy for expanding this project by billions, while at the same time taking billions away from state universities like UP.

stupid decisions like these I believe are indicative of the background and personality of the one-year old president: he believes that things should just be given away, instead of actually having to be earned.

after all, it seems like everything he wanted (job as shoe salesman, congressman, senator, and now president) was given to him based on the achievements of his mother and father, not his own.

Funny, I heard this said about noyboy and other oppositionists during gma's time.

I guess the perspective changes once you and your shooting buddies are now the ones in power.

  10. Dear P-NOY,

lets rock the Phillipines for the next six years...

    come what may....

from a democratic peace loving person,

    dariuz laugh.gif

rocks us like an earthquake that indiscriminately kills friend and foe.

hope there's a Philippines left at the end of that six years.

(I don't about the rest of you, but I breathed a sigh of relief at the end of the last Aquino administration. I also made a silent prayer of "never again," but I guess God likes to test the Philippines.)

  11. Hey Noyboy,

Spend some of that P1 billion budget of your communication group by hiring your supporters here on MTC. While I disagree with them, I have to point out that they do a better job "spinning" your mistakes than your current team.

You're going to need better pr people, especially given the way you run a "government by press release."

  12. Dear Noy,

Why are you giving too much favors for these squatters:

    1. P1400/monthly stipend for them

    2. No Homework every friday

    3. No demolition for them

Are you trying to be a hero from these lazy and abusive people??

    Hoy Noyboy,

It's good to see that at least you're paying back the people who voted for you.

I guess it's just too bad for those Filipinos who actually earn what they have, instead of inheriting it from their parents (you got an honorary degree - from your mother's school?) or getting it as a handout from the government.

Sayang. I guess I should have been more like you in school.

  13. hey abnoy,

i guess you're smiling coz you've got the filipino people by the balls.

contrary to what your supporters here on mtc think, people like myself who did not vote for you don't want you to fail.

admittedly, we expect you to fail - but we still don't want you to fail, for the simple reason that when you screw up, it's we, all the filipino people, who get f#&ked.

we criticize on the chance (it's small, but it's still there) that you'll change for the better.

unfortunately, your indecisive and evasive response to the aftermath of the crisis just feeds into our pessimism.

try to disappoint us, why don't you?

  14. hey abnoy,

why don't you attend one of those pr seminars you make your cabinet secretaries go to?

smiling like an idiot while visiting a place where people just died? i got an e-mail from a singaporean colleague, asking if this was one of those tasteless pictures where people pose next to the site of a disaster (too many of our countrymen posted pictures like those online, adding salt to the wounds of HK people)

i actually tried to defend you. i started to explain that you were smiling because you found the situation "absurd" ... then i stopped. i realized that your explanation might actually come off as more sick and offensive.

absurd? the correct adjective is tragic: and walking around, smiling, in a place where a tragedy occured is the height of callousness

  15. m happy with new may issue - jeri lee fan kasi.

btw, m surprised at full frontal breast shots in mag. initially got the impression from people i talked to that playboy philippines was just like fhm and maxim - sexy shots, with a nipple slip or two every so often.

nice to see that's not the case. almost as good as us edition. got this for jeri lee photos, but m now thinking of checking out back issues.

  16. Just a reminder: 11 days after, 2nd place trophy still with UP ... anyone from the green school care to pick it up?

hey, does this mean that if la salle doesn't claim it, up gets to keep it?

yehey! nanalo na rin ang up ng uaap trophy na hindi para sa cheerdance! :upside:

  17. I got word that:

    1. Eric Ramos was fired as editor-in-chief

    2. Release of first issue might be delayed - baka beyond March 2008

    3. Walang masyadong nudity - para lang din FHM. Maxim, etc. - because Playboy is actually more of a lifestyle magazine, selling an expensive, high class lifestyle as much as it "sells" girls (it's famous for its Playboy Interview of VIPS, short story contributuons of great writers and novelists - I heard Butch Dalisay will be a regular here, college football review, etc)

what? if no nudity, then it's not playboy!

makes me miss the old Pinoy Playboy issues they use to sell at the newstands

  18. I heard that Alex Ross would be pencilling the cover for JSA #10.. "Kingdom Come's" Superman is joining the JSA daw.. Any information on this bro? I am thinking of getting this storyline eh..

get this only if you're not a fan of the old Justice Society comic (they did this relaunch gag just to make money). The old Justice Society was a small, close-knit team, with lots of character development; in the new JSA comic, the team looks a lot like the old All-Star Squadron - a big, sprawling army of superheroes. lots of cameos, but not much by way of char dev
