  1. True, destiny internet is fast in some areas but not in others. If your planning to subscribe better ask the subscribers in your area.

Right now internet is slow and it is not limited to Destiny subscribers. The repairs of the damaged undersea cables during Taiwan earthquake are not yet completed. An article in the inquirer last Sunday mentioned that the repair may extend as late as the end of February. I guess all that we can do is ask for a rebate.

  2. I read in "xtremesystems" that there are problems related to 7900GT, & they suggested 7900GTX (about 25k at PCXpress) or 7950GX2. How true?

Some and it's not manufacturer specific. I had to RMA two 7900GTs before getting a good one. After two (2) months, the first one exhibited artifacts and tearing when gaming. Then there was the occassional lock up. A few days thereafter, my pc won't boot. The second was dead on the third day after doing some torture testing. The third card is doing fine.

The 7900 GT series is a good card. I can practically play all games with all graphic settings at high and my temps never exceed 52C.

thanks for the fast reply. Yes, I'd like to overclock my cpu since it's getting outdated. I have a pair of Kingmax 512 MBs. I was advised that my mems are not good for overclocking.

I've seen a rig in the other site scoring 5000 pts in 3dmark06 with an amd 64 3000+ venice (overclocked to 2700mhz) paired with a geforce 7900 gt 512 mb. that's the score that i'd like to reach also. my mb btw is an MSI Platinum Edition (SLI).

Which memory would you recommend to suit my overclocking needs if my budget is capped at P5K?

chenelynmae, the way I see it, it is not right for your previous employer to withhold your final pay just because the particular account that you were working on was not finished at the time you left.

You were not contracted as an independent contractor.

As a typical employee, your obligation was only limited to rendering the equivalent work that a diligent employee could accomplish at the time of his employment. If your work can be characterized as such then you are entitled to all the compensation and benefits that you have earned during your employment less accountabilities. :)

  5. you can't give the child your surname...since there is a valid and subsisting marriage, the offspring during the pendency of such marriage are presumed to be legitimate children of such union...thus all right appurtenant to such devolve upon the child...

the separation in fact does not overcome this presumption of legitimate filiation...there is even the 180 day period for the determination of filiation when there is a subsequent marriage...in the end, you cannot just summarily give the child your surname especially if the union is extra marital in nature...

the way i see it, the only way you can give the child your surname is by adoption after the annulment of the marriage of your GF...this must be done in court and cannot just be formalized via private instrument notarized...further complicating your situation is the threat of a criminal suit against your GF (adultery, best evidence is the pregnancy) to be filed by the husband if he gets pissed off...

just be careful...you treading on rather thin ice...

Consenting to the use of your surname will be tantamount to supplying the evidence to prosecute you and your girlfriend for the crime of adultery.

The way you put it, am I correct in making the assumption that the subject employee is already performing the task and receiving benefits of the the position he is to occupy by reason of his promotion? If yes, I am more inclined to favor the view that he is deemed promoted even if the confirmatory appointment has not yet been issued. Moreover, this view is in keeping with the non-diminution of benefits principle.

If the demotion is the result of a simple transfer, it will not only be illegal to reduce his benefits, it will as well constitute constructive dismissal. But if the demotion is undertaken or imposed as a penalty for infraction committed by the employee, the withdrawal of the benefits enjoyed by him while occupying the higher position, I think, will not be violative of the non-diminution principle. This form of penalty is generally being imposed by CSC. I don't see any reason why this form of penalty cannot be utilized in the private industry.

But then again, why not just terminate the services if indeed he committed a serious offense punishable by dismissal. This renders moot the resolution of the demotion issue.

  7. If you're considering cable internet, you have to determine whether there are many cable subscribers in your area. Pag marami, you are better off with DSL. The allocated Cable Internet bandwidth is shared among subscribers. The more subscribers, the slower your internet connection. When I got mine installed, Destiny made the assurance that I will get double the speed of dial up. I am getting much more than that because there are only a few subscribers in our area.

If DSL, the consideration is the distance of your place from their Station (I do not know the technical term). The nearer your place, the faster your internet connection. Unless you are given a dedicated line. I hope this helps.

  8. il_jr, trebbie and valjean,

Thanks for your help, comments and suggestions. What appears in the shares option is exactly as you described it, "C$". Granting that the share option is only that (meaning "C$" only) but without administrator status, does this mean they can still see our files?

What you said about downloading software being restricted is also correct. I guess we need to talk to our boss and have our pc's set up in a way that IT can not see our files. To be doubly sure, we need to encrypt the files just as you guys suggested. Thanks again guys.

  9. My work as well as that of my colleagues at the office deal with some sensitive files that are for the eyes only of our boss. Our operating system is Windows 2K and we belong to a large network. While tinkering with his PC, one of my colleagues discovered that his hard drive was shared. The same was the case too with mine and that of the others in our Department. I was able to untick the shared option but every time the pc is restarted, the shared option is activated again. I don't think there is a policy in our office regarding the authority of the IT people to pry into our pcs.

    Questions:

    1. Does this mean that the administrator of our network can see, copy and even modify our files?

    2. Is there a way to prevent this (through installation of some third party software or otherwise) even if we don't have administrator status?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Tnx

  10. Lawyers and Lawstudents,

Mahirap b ang Criminal Law 1 (CRIM 1)?

Criminal Law 1 (or other Criminal Law subjects for that mater) is one of the more exciting subjects at Laws school. I didn't get bored because the cases are more graphic than in other subjects.

  11. hi...magtatanong lang po...im not sure kung pwede po ba itong tanong ko dito...gusto ko po kasing malaman kung pwede po bang mag-direct hire ng security guard. ung guard po kse nmin sa isang leading convenience store, gusto ko i-direct hire para mas malaki ang swelduhin nya, kse po we pay the agency php 11,500 monthly, fix po un...ang nakukuha nya ay less than 8k a month, duty nya sa min ay 12 hours at walang day-off, no holiday pay, no ot's...ung sss nya, wala daw pong contri according to our guard...ok lang po ba na walang agency ang guard namin at i-direct hire namin sya, since ang sabi nya ay ung license naman nila ay individual...thanks po. i'll appreciate any help on this matter.

You very well can. That is ideally what the situation should be. It may however interest you that the reason why security services are contracted through an agency by the managment is prevent the company from being tied up with rights and benefits that a direct hire has, once he has security of tenure. With security of tenure it is harder to dismiss the employee as compared to his being an agency-hired. Through an agency, you can more or less undertake replacement without much hassle.
