  1. Peejay,

Colon Cancer is a relatively friendly cancer as far as the stage of your loved one. Stage II is still considered early. I am sure he was given chemotherapy as it provides increase benefit for survival (up to 90%). Chemotherapy for Colon Cancer is not as "toxic" as the ones which lay people commonly perceive. Wlang significant side effects ito like vomitting and hair loss.

I believe that your loved one will survive. They will survive more than they expect. But I think what is important is his or her quality of life. And this part will depend on their family support. Hang on, Keep the faith.

    Easy

PS.With regards to stem cell use in colon cancer, malayo pa ang connection nito. Everything in stem cell research is in the infancy stage now especially when the US goverment slashed its funding in favor of research bio-terrorism. I belive China and other European countries are better off in stem cell research than in the US.

Just to give my two cents, all of chemotherapeutic agents are toxic to the body, different chemo agents different side effects depending on which group they belong i.e vinca alkaloids, nitrogen mustard derivatives, hormonal agents, alkylating agents antimetabolites biological etc...and this side effects vary also from person to person..thats why educating the patients on what to expect prior to chemo is very important...some of the patients after having the first or second cycles of there chemo quits, why? because they have not been taught of the side effects of chemo...although i have not experience having a chemo ( God forbids ) i know that they are experiencing "hell" whenever they receive this chemo..thats why family support is important. As for the colon cancer the usual chemo agent that they are giving is 5FU common side effects is vomitting nausea hairloss bone marrow depression etc and in combination with 5FU is oxaliplatin...

  2. last april my wife underwent hysterectomy. we thought all those stomach bloat, fartings, all airs/panuhot/kabuhi/whatever you call it/ulcers that wouldnt go away, would be gone.

then, this 2nd week of august, she felt week again. her colonoscopy (4 bags of blood transfused prior to colonoscopy(low blood platelet count, whatever)) showed something in her colon...

12 hours after transfusion her blood platelet count went down again...doctor's advise was for immediate surgery in order to see the extent of colon problem...

august 18 she underwent colon surgery. there, 20 lumps/polyps were removed. the affected colon was also cut and the colon joined. thus everything was cleaned as far as her colon.

biopsy showed that 1 of 20 polyps was cancer.

she is expected to have her first chemotherapy (preventive) this september 18.

hope and pray that your wife will do just fine after her chemo... what is the final diagnosis of your wife? what kind of chemo agent are they gonna use?

  4. I'm a big fan of Pioneer and Kenwood brands. For my head unit I employed the Pioneer KEH-P8250 (Old school Cassette/Radio and Cd controller).

My Processor is also a Pioneer DEQ-P800 with parametric EQ and Time alignment.

A 12 Disc CD changer also from Pionner.

For my front speakear I used Kenwood 6.5" components seperates for its installation's versatility.

For that pounding Bass, the two Pioneer 12" Subs fits the bill each sub can handle up to 2000 watts of power.

Producing all the grunt for the entire system are from two Kenwood amps, a 4 channels and a Mono block each produces 1200 watts. I was going to do away with rear speaker dahil I prefer na ang sounds ko ay coming from upfront not from the back, kaya lang, kawawa naman ang backseat passengers, so I slap a pair of kenwood coaxial for the rear at saka, it's also being use for PS2 and Magic sing.

you have a nice set up bro, im also a fan of pioneer i have 12" PIONEER as my subs , pioneer amps 4 channel, l front speakers- infinity kappa series forgot the model and as for my HU its an alpine cda 9856 and a pre amp subs 2000 watts unknown brand ( BEAC ) and still thinking what will i do next ill be consulting a audio tech next week and for my rear fill a 6x9 5 way 460 watts TS A6991S

  5. according to that documentary po where i've heard this matter,

the parent of the newborn where the stem cell came from can benefit

    from it...

well, i just wanna know lng nmmn po on which kind of stem cell

we could count on as we're already on the stage 2 of a loved one's colon cancer...

anyone can benefit from this cord stem cell but usually they are using this for leukemias and other blood disorders. for solid tumor chemotheraphy plus surgery radiotheraphy is still the best choice in treating such ( paging our oncologist here tama po ba ito )., I have attended a lecture which briefly touch on the stem cell that are implanted on the cancer site then this stem cell will be recognize by the body as its own that is without any rejection from the host then they will repair and will mature and grow as healthy cell but again this is still an ongoing research and will take years before na maging realidad ito, as for our institution just want to give an idea ( best is to consult your oncologist )..we are using the folfox erbitux protocol ( for colon cancer ) it is a combination of cetuximab, oxaliplatin and 5 FU..I believe na maraming magagandang ospital at magagaling na mga doctor dyan sa atin, lets just pray and hope na malagpasan ng iyong mahal sa buhay ang krisis na ito...

  6. How much is it to have a tattoo these days? I asked around and the price seems to range between 500-1000 pesos. I don't know if they're good though, or if their tools are clean.

I have mine done in Buendia the artist is jose cuerpo if i have it right, hes very good 100 % satisfaction when he did mine i paid 1200 that was in 1997..tagal na pro ganda pa din nya hanggang ngayon

  7. Jo6789, no faults here. We are all just trying to help diba.

Wow, you have a great job, you work directly with the people who are in need of help, you must be a sympathetic and caring person.

I saw an Ad on Fox, they were advertising storage of cord blood from newborns, the thing about this is that you would have to suspect that your child will have some need for his/her cord blood in the future.

    hi Mr. Green lantern,

yes they are storing now the cord blood using liquid nitrogen at below 0...but this can be use not only by the child itself but can be used by anyone who is in need of stem cell transplant but unfortunately only pediatrics cases can avail of such transplant kunti lang kasi ang nahaharvest nating blood sa isang cord approximately 100 cc...wala pa kaming case na adult ang nag benefit ng cord stem cell tansplant...

We are using the cord blood stem cell transplant because it is less prone to rejection ung mga cell kasi ay primative pa or "naive"...they lacks well develop immune cells so less chance that they will attack the recipients body ( GVHD ).

magandang pakinggan ang stem cell transplant but on my personal opinion marami pa ding studies na dapat i conduct regarding this technology... :(

  8. Hello Jo6789,

Can you ask your friends what their take is on the new bill for stem cell research.

This is the new bill proposed by congress but is expected to be vetoed by Pres. Bush.

Personally, I don't see the problem with the research but I guess some people have some bio-ethical issues with it.

If the research will do good for mankind then I'm all for it.

    hello there green lantern

Ithink Pres. Bush vetoed the embryonic stem cell research but not the entire stem cell research, its my fault that when i commented regarding the query of our fellow mtc'er i forgot to ask what kind of malignancy is he or she referring to, im quite in a hurry to back read those thread ( medyo busy po ). Actually im working in a research instituition dealing with this different kind of stems cells what we are doing right now is to improve the technology in several stem cell therapies which include the Bone marrow stem cells, PBCS and the Umbilical Cord Blood stem cell,..we usually do this kind of treatment/procedure to those with leukemias other types of cancer and some various blood disorder...i think the issue about the embryonic stem cell will go back to the issue of human cloning...those who are against the human cloning will definitely be against this kind of stem cell research...If you will ask me about if it is beneficial for the humankind in pursuing this kind of researches then the answer will be obvious... :)

  9. yes po..and he was advised to undergo surgery..but he didn't buy that option...

he's mother told him that it will make his condition worst than better...!!!

i heard about this "stem cell weeks ago"...

possible or not...i wanna take chances but i still dont know how or where to start on having this procedure...can u pls fill me in po about all the infos i need regarding this...?

    thanks so much po...!!! :(

Stem cell is currently available right now..im working as a bone marrow transplant nurse or what we called the stem cell transplant medyo may kamahalan po ata ito and i dont know kung available ito sa pilipinas, as for the stem cord transplant ginagawa po ito sa mga pasyente na walang makuhang match na donor para sa bone marrow transplant some are succesful in doing this kind of procedure ung preparation and pagkuha ng donor ang medyo mahirap at ung process na dadaanan ng pasyente ang medyo dapat e paghandaan both physically and emotionally...kung may katanoungan po kayo tungkol dito ill try to answer them sa abot po ng ating makakaya pag di ko na po masagot magtatanong po tayo sa mas nakakaalam...my prayers to all those experiencing and battling the big C both the patients and relatives

  10. its very difficult to find a match if your looking for a donor that is not related to you, usually you can find a match donor on the siblings lets say her sister or brother if she is in the US maybe they can try the stem cell - cord transplant....just my 5 cents opinion..ill just give my prayers that somehow Christine will find a donor..
