  1. Izakaya Kikufuji is great! Lots of Japanese customers but also Filipino patrons who know about it and other nationalities as well.

Am told "Izakaya" means "tavern" and i understand the "tavern" concept in Japan is a place to get a drink and a bit of food at, chill out with friends, on the way home. The head chef is Koyshi-san, the Japanese gentleman behind the wraparound sushi counter with the shaven head. Dangerous-looking, but turns out to be a nice guy when you talk to him. My personal lunch favorite is the rice bowl with the salmon and sea urchin sashimi topping, comes as a set with soup, etc. Plus buta-bara, grilled pork on a skewer with just salt rubbed in that tastes delicious. Lots of other goodies, including the salads. There's a dish that's made of mashed tuna, spicy, with tiny kropk-like bits in it, forget its name. Just be ready to take the food smell away with you on your clothes. :)

Where i sthis exactly? expected price range? Thanks

  2. LoveSpell, where is Golden Fortune Tea House exactly? Thanks

    Golden Fortune Tea House -

Recommended Dishes: Assorted Seafood rice, Fish Fillet Rice, Kuchay Dumplings, Hakaw Dumplings, Fish Congee. :thumbsupsmiley:

Their Rice Toppings are a must try! For only 100 bucks you get a rice meal that is almost good for two. Fish Fiullet rice, Beef Brisket Rice.

For Soup and Noodles - They offer a variety of mix and match. You get to pick the type of noodles you want, the toppings you get. From crabsticks to dimsum to angel hair noodles ... the servings are always more than enough for two or three people.

Their foods are served hot from the kitchen. Service is fast and efficient and the restaurant is clean

  3. yes, their chicken xinjan is great. :)

i always order mixed dumplings (8 pcs. pork and 8 pcs. chives), chicken xinjan, beef xinjan, fried rice and xiao long bao. :)

xiao long bao is a very unique type of dumpling, which has hot (and i mean HOT) broth inside. its usually dipped in black vinegar with ginger strips. make sure to use a spoon when you eat it. :)

making is an art in itself..since i first tried it in Shanghai a few years ago, i've been looking for good xiao long bao here in manila. dong bei dumplings is the only one worth mentioning. :) they are made fresh on the spot just before steaming. :)

  5. sorry for the late replies to this. i haven't visited this thread in a while.

if you saw Tasty DUmplings, then you are almost there. dong bei is on the first street. coming from tasty dumplings, just turn left and keep going straight. you will see dong bei on the right side.

    here is the specific address:

    642 Nueva Street, Binondo, Manila

    Telephone: 241-8912

    Cellphone: 0917-745-1617

i went there just last week. surprisingly traffic was super light. i had my usual order of mixed dumplings (8 pcs. chives, 8 pcs. pork), chicken xinjan, fried rice and xiao long bao. still as good as ever. :)

The chive dumplings are great, the chicken xinjan is also good, but haven't tried teh xia long bao, is it like siopao?

  6. my favorite resto in binondo is DONG BEI DUMPLINGS! (right behind the binondo church)

so different from most other dimsum places. small place (only four tables) but excellent food.

they have the best XIAO LONG BAO i've tasted ever since i got addicted to it in shanghai and in hong kong. they make their dumplings fresh everyday!

i always get half an order of pork dumplings, and half an order of chives dumplings. (P100 for 13 pieces)

an order of xiao long bao (P60 for 4 pieces)

fried rice, and chicken (or beef) xinjang.

you'll leave very happy. and their house tea is perfect.

I have to Agree, Dong Bei Dumpling is pretty good. Tried it recently their chives dumpling and chicken xinjang is the best I've tried..have to try the xiao long bao soon
