  1. My PLDT DSL went kaput recently -- Error 678 "The remote computer is not responding" -- for 8 days. Tech guys or linemen came to my house 4 times, and they couldn't really pinpoint the cause. They ended up switching me to another port for the meantime since I was really getting mad.

Then on the 9th day, the just-restored DSL service starts disconnecting intermittently throughout the day. Worst of all, my voice landline also went kaput -- no incoming or outgoing calls.

On the 11th day, my DSL finally becomes more stable, and my voice service comes back -- but then the landline is full of static when you are on a voice call!

OMG, when will this ever end???

  2. @ R@v3n:

But how do I know what's the normal range for voltage -- or for temperature, for that matter?

I installed software called SensorsView Pro, but it only monitors CPU temp and CPU fan speed. I noticed that my CPU temp is normally between 50 - 60 degrees Celsius but it rises to 70 - 72 degrees when my screensaver turns on. Then I get temp warnings from the software. BTW, my CPU is a Pentium IV Hyperthreading. I also have a GeForce 6600 graphics card, but it has its own fan.

When I touch the top of my desktop, mainit nga ito, lalo na if I touch the area right over the PSU. Will the sluggish PS fan contribute to the higher CPU temp? (I remember that initially, I didn't know the PS fan wasn't turning, so the CPU case became very hot and the CPU kept shutting down in mid-operation.)

BTW, should I invest in additional fans? Does it help? Where should I put them?

    @ Google:

Oo nga, worst case I will replace the PSU. But with what? Right now, my PS is 350W, for a load of a Pentium IV HT, GeForce 6600 graphics card, 2 hard disks and a DVD-CD RW combo drive. Am I overloading my PS? And if I add more, (like additional fans, DVD writer, etc), will that mean I need a higher wattage in my new PSU?

    Thanks for all the advice!

  3. My desktop's power supply unit's fan does not turn on when i turn the CPU on. I have to give the fan's blade a little push with a pen before it gains enough strength to turn. But even then, I observe na parang hirap yung fan -- parang mabagal and hindi constant yung rotational speed. Although once it starts turning, it doesn't totally stop naman.

What's wrtong with it kaya? I already cleaned the blades and vents, because i thought maybe it's because of the clogged dirt, but it's still the same.

I think the PSU itself is still ok. Can the fan still be repaired or replaced? Or should I change the entire PSU already?

  4. i'm still doing well here in the phils, despite the fact that there are definitely more lucrative opportunities for me abroad.

but if push came to shove, and i'd have to work abroad, i'll choose to go somewhere near, like HK, Singapore, Thailand or Malaysia.

  5. The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty. If you think the film's scary, wait till you read the book...it's more detailed, more dramatic and explicitly explaines the troubles of tortured priest Father Carras.

    I second the motion.

Also back in college I read another book by William Peter Blatty titled "The Ninth Configuration". Ang galing, naiyak pa ako sa huli.

  6. normally i would read the book first, then watch the movie.

but since now i'm always pressed for time, i end up watching the movie first, then scan the book later.

either way, i'm exploited coz i get to pay twice for essentially the same story.

but if i buy the pirated dvd and download the pirated e-book, i can exploit them twice! hahaha

  7. if you're gonna live alone, P 30k a month should do it. if with a partner, maybe P 50k.

the tricky part is where to get that retirement income! siguro if you have about P 10 to 15 million you can drop everything and retire right now, living on the interest income.

    Wish mo lang! hahaha

  8. i've been using sony ericsson P series for 5 years na. started with P900, then P910 and now at P990i. very versatile and useful. very easy to text coz of the keyboard.

medyo buggy lang ung firmware ng P990i, ngaun lang naaayos nang mabuti ng SE. mas stable pa ung P910 noon. but still, i'm very happy with this phone series.

  9. Bro..i had that problem..i thought we have no access.pero when i tried to reset it a couple of times..meron pala...nawwala...

though extreme problems are DSL sucks at downloading with p2p networks...PLDT is in the list of Worst DSL providers do you know that? ^_^

I'm not surprised. They still have the monopoly mentality, and esp. since you're tied up with a year-long contract, they feel they have you by the balls anyway, so why bother with good service?

tried resettting it several times, to no avail. minsan pag nakaka tsamba, pag tumawag ako sa phone, babalik pagkatapos ung dsl. minsan naman, pag ok ung dsl ko, tapos may tumawag sa phone, napuputol ung dsl.

i also noticed that kapag nagloloko ung DSL ko, whenever i pick up the phone, maingay ung linya. yet the pldt people told me wala naman daw problema. they must think i'm neurotic and just imagining all these.
