Is there anyone familiar with the regulation regarding the intellectual Property in the Philippines?
I have been planning to start the "BOX" shop in the Philippines. The concept of this store is that I sub-lease the space of my shop on the basic of per cubic foot by putting display showcase (cabinet) which consist many partition (or small box which is 1'x 1' x 1' each). This is very popular in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan for the last 10 years.
However, when I am looking for a good location for my shop, I found out someone started same kind of store this week. and they have web page http://funboxph.multiply.com
Which is exactly the same theme as my store.
Unfortunately, they claim that "The "box store concept" of Funbox has been patented. Please report sightings of other stores using the same concept".
I check the IPO Philippines, they have pending registration of the trademark but i am not sure if they really patented the concept.
Per my limited knowledge of patent, I don't think this kind of simple "store concept" can be patented. But I am not sure about it.
IS THERE ANYONE CAN HELP ME ABOUT THIS?
THANKS.

Hi,
If you are really interested, I have a lawyer friend who is in a firm who specialize in this field. If you are serious, you can PM me and will give you details.
Off hand, however, I think you should get at least an investor's VISA here or that sort.
Cheers.
Hi, I dont know how to use PM function. Maybe you PM me so i can reply. I am interested to contact your friend.
Thanks.

Please, can anyone help me.
I am from Hong Kong with Hong Kong passport. I have a Filipino girl friend here in the Philippines. She got married before with a Filipino guy and have 3 kids. My girl friend separated with her ex-husband more than 5 years ago and never seen each other anymore. But she didn't divorce with her ex..... Means i cannot marry her, diba?
2 years ago, we had our own daughter and she was born in the Philippines and with Birth Certificate.
As I didnt marry with my girl friend, I need to travel back to Hong Kong from time to time in order not to overstay in the Philippines. But it is very costly even though i have the APEC business travel card that I can stay in the Philippines up to 59 days without visa.
My question is: how can i stay in the Philippines for more than 2 months at the lowest cost and legally?
Thanks a lot

Thanks.
I also think that they can register FUNBOX as their trademark relating to their business activity that is based on sub-lease the space in their store and display the item of their lessees in the 1'x1'x1' square displaying area.
Their store concept is not a technical or industrial invention, so it cannot be patented di ba?
