  1. Hi gzorros,

You are right, your notebook might be included in the Limited Warranty Service Enhancement Program of HP which affects some notebook models namely dv3, dv6, dv6, v3000,v6000, etc. The only solution to this is to have the motherboard replaced. No matter what troubleshooting you perform, those fixes are only temporary and your issue just continue to exist unless the motherboard is replaced. If your notebook still has warranty, i suggest you call HP support so that a repair service can be setup for your notebook. I hope this helps.

Thanks. quotation for HP repair/replacement is $385, medyo mahal.

  2. HI. need help. My Hp dv2415nr laptop suddenly won't boot a few weeks ago. The optical disk and hard drive will light for a few second and then stop. I searched the internet and apparently it is common problem for HP2000 model - motherboard/bios daw. Looks like a problem that HP itself can't solved (apparently the problem persist even when the motherboard were replaced with a new one).

without replacing the motherboard, can this be solved by having a bootable (vista) disk/usb?

    Thanks.

  3. I have a netgear wg111 usb wireless adapter for my deskstop (p4/motherboard circa 2002/winxp). After a month it start behaving erratically, from time to time it stopped working and that my PC don't recognize/ detect my USB (even if the driver is already loaded). The adapter works fine with my laptop.

Apparently it is a common problem for this product but Iam still wondering what's causing the problem. I can't return the product and that the compny's website is no help either (same question was posted on their site but so far no clean cut answer).

Your help will be very much appreciated.

  4. Hinde ma-delete / erase yung "My Backup" folder after running system recovery.

I checked the user guide pero doesn't say much about "my backup". It's not a serious one but I need to free up some memory space. Frustrating lang kasi hinde ma-delete palagi "access denied".

    Any suggestion?

-Check with the stock transfer agent (your broker should be able to help you) to see if they have stock divs under that stocks beneficial owner. Also to collect un-cashed / un-claimed stock divs.

    - WEre you able to receive the most recent stock / cash stock divs... kung wala then kanino napunta.. anyways that's alot of money if kung 1982 pa yan.

-Kanino naka-name yung stock certificate? You'll need authorization to sell that stock if it is not in your name... Kung deceased na, then that will be another issue and long process but in can be shortened depende sa discarte ng broker mo.

  6. CFA - chartered financial analyst (AIMR)

CFM - certified financial manager (IMA / Institute of management accountant/ CMA)

CFA - Application can be dowloaded from AIMR website (assoc..invstment management ad research) or you can email them to have a form mailed to you.

3 level, last level would be essay. Right now you can take it twice a year (may/june and december) unlike before which is only available once a year.

It's cheaper if you are a student but then again where are you going to get the money. Expect to spend 550 - 650 usd.

  7. Uhh, okey to be specific - corporate finance i.e. budget, treasury, fin analysis etc..

    On the general aspect:

What is confusing or what causes confusion is that a CPA traditionally occupy all those functional areas but what others are professing is that CMA is at par in serving the same capacity except perhaps auditing (attesting).

I guess if you are not planning to work with auditing firm then CMA is the way to go.

It's like making a choice between Goodlife and Fusion Spa....

  8. For wire-transaction it will be wise to set-up dollar account with BPI, MetroB,PNB, HSBC etc... Just a minimum amount would do. I prefer this method kasi dollar to dollar ang transaction.

You can send personal check but that would need at least 45 days to clear in Manila..

Online banking would be another thing...

MOney-remittance center should be available but their fee structure is expensive but very convenient.

    - you can ask a Kababayan travelling back to manila to do you a favor by delivering your money.

  9. Back to the original question -Paano discarte dito? Well, you must have a very close relationship with a broker. You must be able to buy at the early stage of pre-selling. If you are close enough to your broker you should be able to get an allocation.

After IPO, its better to rely on the instict of your broker in terms of entry price (and now you are in the realm of speculation as oppose to investing). The IPO stock can become volatile on the first few days of its trading, a seasoned trader / broker can explain you why.

  10. I think for SWIFT system (Swift Code = International Bank Code = Routing Number for usa i.e HSBCPHMN meaning HSBC Manila) you have a one time charge like 45$ but for some remittance they have fees like 15$ plus the exchange rate differential (in all the total transaction cost would average to 15% to 18% of the amount remitted).

If you are sending a chunk of money like 1,500usd and above I would suggest wire transfer that would normally require swift code and the account numbers.

  11. IPO investment strategy is only effective in an uptrend or bullish market otherwise bilasa kaagad yung shares. It is also an indicative of a positive market sentiment.

Historically, company would prefer to offer their share in public when they expect that their stock would appreciate and that can only happen when overall market sentiment is upbeat. Unless otherwise the company is a super performer it can somehow defy a negative market and watch its stock soar but that is very rare.

Based on what I observed on local IPO, those who bought first (pre-selling) are the ones making a killing. Even before the actual trading day or (IPO) the stock price had appreciated way above its normal valuation. I would suspect that hyping is very much practiced way before the IPO date.

  12. Mutual funds are not created equal... I would suggest to invest a little time in studying their prospectus that would at least discuss their investment strategy, portfolio composition, goal, management fees and their qualifications.

There are multitude of fund types available and it depends on their portfolio composition i.e. Bond fund (treasury etc..), some holds Commercial Paper, some holds pure equities and those bolder one will have foreign instruments in their portfolio.
