  1. Sorry if this question sounds stupid.  Does this mean that any blood relation that isn't mentioned in the explanation quoted above is beyond the fourth degree?  For instance, a sibling.  Thanks.

     

    nope. your sibling (brother/sister) is related to you by blood within the second degree. your nearest, most common ascendant are your parents. so you count up one degree to the parents, then down one degree to your sibling. the key thing in counting degrees in blood relationships is to look for the nearest, most common ascendant. ;)

  2. actually, hanapin mo ang pinaka-common na apex ng family tree. fourth degree can be your aunt/uncle (if great grandparents still living) or cousins (if common apex is the grandparents). just count up until the common apex, then count down the line.
