Reasons was once owned by Francis Pasia. I got a chance to talk with the owners before. Huling punta ko doon noong 1994 pa. Pero hindi na sila pure jazz bar. At nagtanong ako kung sila Pasia pa may ari iba na raw. Dati kasi ang nag dj doon ung Pasia brothers. Sayang madalas pa naman ako dito nong late 80's.

i think there's still a jazz rhythms in nakpil street in malate, but i think they don't play jazz anymore.

ever since my dad gifted me with a white faced breitling navitimer for my first solo flight i've been wearing only but breitlings. i then added a blue faced navitemr world and black faced navitmer heritage to my collection.

before, used to tune in to 88.3 citylite, xb102 & 99.5rt (rhythm of the city)

then 96.3 lite rock & the early days of k-lite 103.5

now, it's a toss between 105.1 crossover & rj 100.3 (playing the greatest & the latest)

there's also this jazz/ 70'/ 80's hip bar, "the naked ear" in dapitan street, near metro bank, where cerveza negra was a staple drink. the last time i was there was around three years ago.

Yep I also miss Citylite 88.3. They closed down a couple of years ago. Naalala ko nong una silang nagsisimula. They were playing mainstream jazz. Later on medyo naging hard core jazz. Pero nahalata ko in the mid 90's kahi hindi jazz na music at may konting pagka jazz pinapatugtog na rin nila. Sayang they closed down around 2001. At the time they opened. Sila lang talaga ang Jazz station sa metro manila. They opened in 1987 during my college years. So somehow that station was synonymous with my college days. Nung late 80's kasi medyo na uso noon ung mga Jazz bars such as Rhythm and Booze, Reasons (I don't know if they're still open), Jazz Rhythms, Birdland, Blue Moon etc. I used to hang out in these bars before. hehehehe.

hayyy the glory days! nice to walk down memory lane................ rhythm & booze (makati ave & annapolis), jazz rhytms (jupiter & nakpil), reasons (pasay rd), east st. louie.....and yes... the mairachi music at the old tia maria near i.s. .........the years of yore....mainstream & fussion jazz... only at citylite 88.3.

Anybody out there who is old enough to remember the Fusion Jazz craze of the 80's, when Tom Scott, Bob James, David Benoit, Ronnie Laws, Seawind, Chuck Mangione were kings? 101.9 was THE F.M. radio station back then. Seemed like there was a major artist coming to MNL every month. Anyody know where to obtain CDs from that long-ago era?

EXOTIC FOOD? I discovered this recipe from an old yedish manual in my friend's ancestral home

FRADOSH

1 cup sun-dried horse brain, minced

1 cup red snapper eye balls

1/4 kilo goat pancreas, thinly sliced

2 TBSP goat earwax

10 medium sized squids or cuttle fish

3 eggs

2 red bell pepper, choped

2 green pepper, chopped

2 cloves of garlic, minced

1/2 cup green peas

4 white onions, chopped

1/2 cup Cabarnet

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup oyster sauce

1 tsp oregano

1 tsp ground white pepper

DIRECTIONS

Saute the garlic and the onions together with the red and green pepper. Add the horse brain and goat pancreas. When the meat is golden brown, add the red snapper eye balls and the goat earwax. Proceed to add the sauce sauce. Simmer for ten mintes. Add the green peas, oegano and ground white pepper, then simmer for another five minutes. Remove the mixture from the fire then set aside for five mintes or until like warm in temperature. Add the 2 eggs then mix well.

Remove the tentacles and inner meat of teh swuid and despose them. Stuff the cooked mixture into the squids and place the stuffed squids on a baking pan. Bask the stuffed squid with the Cabarnet, then with the oyster sauce. Place into a pre-heated oven of 250 degrees for 20 minutes.

Served while hot!
