check the USB-to-IDE IC that your external HD-case is using,

open it and find an IC, I believe its only 1, then

check if the name/brand starts with GL (Genesys Logic)

if so.. then google for Genesys Logic and you can find that

such ICs have issues with NForce2 (I believe thats your MBs chipset)

the ONLY solution is to install a new USB2 PCI card which has either

a VIA or SIS chipset....

tnx sir...hmmmmm.. actually yung mother board ko (746f ultra - msi-6717), built in na 6 na SIS746fx na usb port, since problematic, bumili din ako ng VIA na usb pci card, hindi nadedetect yung hard disk ko...tapos try ko swap yung usb card ng ibang pc, ALI naman...yun naman same problem with sa SIS..nawawala bigla habang nagcopy/view

pwede din n mahina ang voltage na sinusupply ng USB port mo s external HD mo. yun kasi ibang devices na pinag-try mo eh mahina lng ang required na voltage unlike sa HD. kung may saksakan ng external power supply yung case mo and you have an adapter n 4.5~5 V ang output, you can try that also. just be careful sa polarity nya ok. had the same problem before s laptop ko when i was using a USB hub. sguro its a different case than mine but it never hurts to try.

tnx sir, pero yung USB cable for external drive may extra port for "power" bale yung dulo 2 usb port (1 for data, the other for extra power), tapos usb 2.0 din yung ports, kahit ikabit ko yung dalawang port sa usb port ng motherboard/pci board, no effect, ganun pa din problema (

Since, you've tried re-installing, have you tried plugging it on another computer? If it's problematic there, it may be that your external HD's the cause for your problem. Actually, the enclosure is just a sort of tranceiver that takes input from the HD's IDE port and convert it for the USB. It just may be damaged in your case. (Some cases are extremely easy to damage...based on a friend's personal experience... )  :headsetsmiley:

yup, i also tried in other pc and it's working fine (using usb 1.1 and usb 2.0)..... yung nga pinagtataka ko eh.. ba't sa iba gumagana...dun sa pc ko ayaw... wala akong makitang magandang sagot via google search , kaya nagbakasakali ako dito may na-experienced din ganung problema

already tried several times (re-installation)...ganun pa din ang error ...

bumili na din ako ng usb pci card (via), still, ganun pa din error ... pero nagtataka ako, sa ibang usb devices gumagana (web cam, mp3 players, digicam, etc...), problematic lang dun sa external hard drive na usb...... , pinaka - last resort ko na is to change na yung enclosure ng usb drive, ang tanong...ano yung magandang brand na compatible sa lahat ng pc's? at saan ko mabibili?

me nabili ako external usb hard disk drive sa pcx last aug, 2005 pa, ang problema, sa ibang computer gumagana, sa iba hindi, malas, sa isang pc ko gumagana, sa isa hindi.

Yung specs nung pc (hindi gumagana usb drive) ay:

Athlon xp 2000+, 512 MB memory, MSI -746f ultra mother-board w/ built in 6 USB 2.0 ports, running in Windows xp service pack 2. Search ko na sa internet pero no effect; upgrade ng bios, tweaking sa bios parameters, last resort ko na nga, bumili na din ako ng USB card, still ganun pa din problema.

Ang nangyayari lagi ay nadedetect sya sa una..pero pag tumatagal, hindi nya madetect, error :"Source file not found".

Motherboard issue kaya ito (compatibility issue)?????

I used to get these annoying problems before. Now, everytime I browse the web I used both firewall and a hacker defence program, these problems does not occur anymore.

Tulong..., meron ba kayong pang repair ng boot sector/FAT ng hardisk. Kasi yung laptop (IBM tHINKPAD) ng utol ko, nababasa nya yung laman ng hardisk pero once mag - invoke ka ng any write commands (whether copy/delete/etc), nag-eeror ("Unable to write to disk").. Try ko na mga procedures na ito:

1. Fdisk/Format - kaso format failed dahil hindi makapagwrite sa hard-disk

2. Bios reset - ganun pa din

3. Scandisk - walang error pag normal scan, pero once i-try mo yung surface scan, parang naghahang

help, ala kasi akong budget for hard disk right now

1. Ano yung normal temperature (CPU) range ng Athlon XP 2000?, kasi yung pc ko normal na yung 62 - 67 C, for 1 - 3 hrs usage, naka 100% na yung fanspeed (Ttake volcano 7+)

2. Meron kasing feature yung MSI na "XP cooling system"? wala akong specifications/descriptions ng feature na ito?

yes, patriart is right by manually setting the FSB to 133 (266) with a multiplier of 12.5, that will give you a 1.66 GB CPU external frequency (Athlon XP 2000+). Not all XPs are a 133(266), these are core "A". For core "B" it is 166(333) as for XP2600+.

Naka-set na to 133 yung motherboard, nung binili ko, pero minsan nagrerestart/blockout, bumabalik sa default na 100 MHZ, kaya kala ko inooverclock lang para maging XP 2000+

Naka dual boot ako, win xp/2000 Server, parehong nag-rerestart on both OS, so I assume this is hardware problem(compatibility or inherent problems kaya, no idea ako).

another point:

As you said that you have to reset the motherboard bios - reseting the bios is necessary if the advance bios settings is not correct such as the cpu parameters and memory parameters, specially in cases of overclocking. Have you considered having bought an overclocked processor?

sir Deus, eto yung matagal ko ng pinagtataka..., sineset yung FSB ng motherboard (BIOS) to 133 MHZ, kasi sabi nung technician sa binilhan ko (PC-EXPRESS), lahat daw ng CPU (particularly AMD-ATHLON), requirement is 133 MHZ, kaso yung MSI, kailangan manually set to 133

Here are some try-its.

1. Try to back-up all your data and switch off XP?s automatic restart: press [Windows] + [Pause/Break] to open the System Properties and go to the Advanced tab and click Settings under Startup and Recovery. Uncheck the box marked "Automatically Restart" and click OK. Now when your system crashes you?ll get a STOP error ? make a note of the error itself and any files it mentions and search the web.

2. Update all drivers including BIOS

3. Increase the cpu core voltage to 1.7 (don't shut-off your cooler)

4. PSU might not be enough, at least 350W.

5. CPU shutdown temp is might set in lower temp than it should be.

Have you checked yung temp settings mo? Baka nag o-overheat na yung CPU mo?

yup, yung cpu 62C (peak) ,yung system 49C..., pero below threshold ito (which is 80C). yung core voltage normal nasa 12C (threshold 13)....

In what scenarios do you experience na nagrerestart ang PC mo? dami factors pgnagrerestart ang PC. Sa nakita ko palang ay hindi maganda ang chipset ng board mo (SIS). I really hate SIS chipsets. its really a headache

dre, walang pattern, basta na lang nag-rerestart (sa internet, sa microsoft word, minsan run lang ako java programs na madalas ko naman nirurun)... meaning, kahit anong time puwedeng magrestart..., kung memory naman, dapat blue screen ang lalabas, sa akin restart, minsan pa nga blackout pa (walang nadidisplay, kelangan pang i jump yung motherboard: reset), para bumalik sa normal.... Sa motherboard kaya ito, ano ba inherent problems ng SIS boards? kung processor, ala naman, may thermal monitor yung athlon XP, normal yung temperature, kahit hindi ko i-on yung XP cooling nya, tapos maganda naman yung fan nito (TTAKE volcano 7+).. wala talaga ako idea kung bakit nagrerestart, panic na ako dahil mawawala na warranty nito by last week of April!!!,

buti napaguusapan dito tungkol sa hardware, particular ako sa AMD/athlon XP series..., tanong lang ako

May nabili kasi ako last year, athlon XP 2000, yung board MSI 746F Ultra SIS, 256 DDRAM 333MHZ (PQI brand). problema, up to now, nag rereset paminsan minsan, ilang beses na din sinoli, pinalitan, (board, processor, memory, video card) ganun pa din problema.

Tanong, may incompatibilities ba yung hardware na nabili ko? problematic ba talaga yung board?

Gawa ako mini-network (2 computers), 1 running RedHat Linux 8.0 (3Com Network Card), the other Win xp-SP1 (SureCom lancard). Problem ko when I connected on network, via hub (8/ports). and try to ping to the other machine, data loss(packet loss) up to 75%, hindi man lang naging 0% sa tries na ginawa ko

Hindi ko alam kung saan yung problema? di ko alam kung configuration lang ito or hardware problem. help? eto yung other details:

1. hub - Surecom 8ports 100/10 mbps

2. network cable, cat 5, 10 feet (2 pcs)

BTW, i've already installed xp SP1 and rpc security patch (for blaster worm)

Still on my checklists:

1. hijack

2. zonelab (or any personal firewall). Question, I've noticed in winxp (by inspection), that is supports firewall in network connection (network connections, properties (tcp-ip), advance tab). Is it reliable? somewhat comparable w/ zonelab or any other personal firewalls?

3. kazaa lite resurrection

4. trillian software (icq/ym, etc). safe ba talaga mga ito, do they support adds?

If you want a very user friendly firewall I recommend zone alarm, it blocks any kind of access to your pc depends on your setting, then use ad -aware, and the cleaner to clean any spyware, use norton or avg whichever you prefer to block virus, and also use norton anti-spam for your email securities.. then use tune-Up utilities to optimise your windows/internet access...

If the files cant be removed they are protected by windows, so you need to disable system restore first and do full scan again.

I turned off the system restore long time ago, worst thing, I think they're dlls currently used by Windows. Option would probably scan on "safe mode" or in DOS mode. Problem is only option available (as for AVG / Norton 2004, using latest updated virus files) is to delete/remove the files (they're system dlls, why remove/delete???).
