With regards to deals, if you go to Asia Travel dot com, and look for their Crazy (or Krazy) Deals, you can find this hotel for US$71. The hotel's name is not mentioned but I looked on Tripadvisor and people there indicated that H2O is the mystery five-star Manila hotel. The mystery five-star one in Makati is New World.

To improve battery life, one way would be to use only either the WiFi or the 3G modes; make sure Bluetooth is turned off if you are not using it; and you can also set the brightness setting manually rather than depend on the iPhone's "Auto Brightness" setting.

You should see if you can surf some iPhone sites such as iLounge for more tips.
