  1. A good read...

An event that will show how bad Cory was as president,

And Marcos being a true statesman until the end..

From the Lips of a Dying President

    by Salvador H. Laurel

Former Vice President of the Philippines

    Chairman, National Centennial Commission

    Manila Bulletin

    Tues., Oct. 21, 1997

The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee and the House Committee on Good Government are now conducting separate investigations on “Operation Big Bird,” a cloak and dagger operation undertaken eleven years ago to bring back the alleged “hidden wealth” of Ferdinand Marcos. The investigations were called in response to President Ramos’ request for specific congressional authority to settle the Marcos issue once and for all.

Mr. Ramos was quick to add that the hidden wealth issue could have been resolved earlier by the Cory administration.

I can attest to that. Weak and already on his deathbed when I visited him in Hawaii on February 3, 1989, Marcos personally asked me to convey to Cory Aquino his offer to give up 90% of his earthly possessions to the Filipino people, through a Foundation which he had set up, but Cory only would allow him to die in his own country and be buried beside his mother.

I related this incident in a book “Neither Trumpets Nor Drums,” published in 1992 right after I ended my term as Vice President of the Philippines.

Pertinent portions that book I now quote for the benefit of those who have not read it.

One of the most unforgettable trips I took as Vice President was my visit to Honolulu on February 3 and 4 1989.

On February 2nd, at about 5 p.m., I received an urgent call from Mrs. Imelda Romualdez Marcos in Honolulu. She was sobbing on the phone. “ Doy, pwede ka bang maka-punta rito? Masama na ang tayo ni Ferdinand. Gusto kang kausapin. Baka hindi na siya magtagal Please, please come," she pleaded.

“I’ll have to cancel my appointments. Maybe I can go in few days?” I asked.

She interrupted me, "Baka hindi mo na siya abutin. Please come as soon as possible!”

I thought about it. The cases filed against the Marcoses had been pending for three years, yet nothing had happened. And the nation remained fragmented. Perhaps, if I tried the Lincolnian approach – "With malice toward none, with charity for all – we might be able to settle the issue and unite the nation."

Then I remembered Imelda’s plea: "Gusto kang kausapin." Maybe there is a chance – maybe he is ready to settle?

She first briefed me about President Marcos’ condition – that he was very weak. The doctors who were attending to him told me he had a less than 50 percent chance of surviving, that he might not even last three months.

Then they took me to the Intensive Care Unit.

I could not recognize Ferdinand Marcos when I saw him. The Marcos I knew was athletic, active, and articulate. The man I saw was skin and bones. About eighty-five pounds.

His eyes opened. He recognized me. He tried to talk. But only his lips moved. There was no sound.

He signaled the nurse to remove the tube imbedded in his throat.

The Nurse pulled out the long tube and asked me to bend closer so I could hear. Finally I heard his voice, very faint, almost a whisper. “Salamat, brod, nakarating ka. I have something to tell you."

I interrupted him: "Before you start, Mr. President, may I ask just one question?"

    He nodded.

“Why did you call me, Mr. President? Why me of all people? I vehemently oppose you. I was probably one of those responsible for your ouster Why Me?"

    He signaled me to stop.

“Say no more, brod," he said. "I never held that against you. You did what you had to do as leader of the opposition for many years. You opposed me on principle, never on personality. You were against martial law but you were noble about it, unlike some people. Besides, I cannot forget your father. I owe him my life, not once but thrice. Let me talk now. I have very little time."

“Please tell Mrs. Aquino to stop sending me her relatives. They are proposing and asking so many things. All I want is to die in my country…I will turn over 90 percent of all my worldly possessions to our people. I ask only 10 percent for my family."

“Just let me die in my own country. I want to be buried beside my mother."

His breathing had become more labored. The nurse stopped our conversation. "He has to rest now," she said.

Before leaving I told him: "Mr. President, I do now know if Mrs. Aquino will listen to me, but I will try."

I hurried back to Manila to transmit Marcos’ message to President Aquino. I asked for an appointment but Cory would not see me. Here I was, her own Vice-President, asking only for three minutes of her time to convey an important message from her predecessor, and she would not see me. I was told by her Executive Secretary (Catalino Macaraig) she was busy. I learned later that she had allocated an hour to Tom Cruise, an American movie star.

In view of her repeated refusal to see me and hear what I had to say, I wrote her a letter dated February 5, 1989:

“Since my arrival yesterday, I have been trying to get an appointment with you…

“I hope you will find time to listen to the highly confidential message of Mr. Marcos considering its serious import and far- reaching consequences upon your administration and the nation as a whole.”

    The next day, Cory replied:

“As to the highly confidential message from former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, I feel that in the light of your representation of its ‘serious import and far-reaching consequences upon your (my) administration and the nation as a whole,’ such message should be disclosed to the public rather than kept confidential. This is in accordance with my announced policy of utmost transparency in the management of the affairs of the country.”

On the same day I wrote back: “ I am still hoping that you will change your mind and receive the message in a private, non-political, direct, and unfiltered manner, beyond any personal and partisan consideration.

“As to your published suggestion that I share with the public the highly confidential information, I am afraid I am not yet at liberty to do so considering that the message was entrusted to me in confidence to be delivered to you personally. Only you and former President Marcos can declassify or disclose this message.

“Let us give national reconciliation and national stability every chance to succeed for the sake of our fragmented people..” (Neither Trumpets Nor Drums, at pp 104-111, 1986 ed, Second printing)

I never received any further reply from Cory.

Cory’s refusal to receive Marcos’ message was perhaps her biggest mistake. Had she studied it carefully, she could have settled the Marcos wealth issue eight years ago. Perhaps we could have paid off our foreign debt!"

"As an economist, I have been rigorously studying the differential impacts of the varying potential outcomes of the 2010 national elections. I have come to the preliminary conclusion that a new mandate under an Aquino presidency would have the highest statistical probability of triggering a significant increase in the investment rate...I estimate that an Aquino presidency would increase it instantly by 8% of GDP or almost P642bn incremental private investments in the first eighteen months. This would create an additional 642,000 jobs on top of the organic capacity of the economy for jobs creation."

  3. Pertaining to money? Is that how you understood my post? blink.gif

On the contrary, I was not merely pertaining to money. As I said earlier there are many factors that contribute to political influence and winning elections. Money is just one of them.

Kris Aquino? With all her media exposure, do you think she'll win if she ran for president? I don't think so. Her personal drama being constantly fed to media will be used against her by her rivals

Kris Aquino contradicts your statement that anyone (including Budoy) who has media exposure can win as president.

She will have a hard time winning the presidency, but I can bet you my last cent that if she runs for the Senate she will win, that's how fanatical the yellow zombies are. In fact, as early as last year, there were talks spreading around that she has plans of running for a Senate seat either in 2016 or as early as 2013.

Expect ABS-CBN to groom her into becoming a senatoriable, by giving her TV shows that deals with the poor masses, or a public service TV show starring her, a year or two prior to her candidacy.

I'm so convinced of her running for the senate, that I'm gonna bookmark this post, and repost it back in the future, just to tell the yellow fanatics, "I TOLD YOU SO!"

  4. I would say otherwise? how would someone like you that is somewhere not in the phil or even living in tarlac know what the hell is going on? I live and earn my living in tarlac and I myself has a business with sugarcane farming and I mill it on luisita and pasudeco and sweet crystal in porac and pampanga....may be its you that has little knowledge on the info at hand...bakit sa tingin mo kakarampot lang ang nakukuhang SDO ng mga farmers na nagrereklamo? you dont sweat you dont get paid simple as that..foes google tell you how many farmers are legitimate beneficiaries?...think again boy you need to do your research more then just by a type on your keyboard

LMAO! You claim to be knowledgeable about the issue and yet mali mali yata sinasabi mo?

Get your facts straight! lmfao!

  5. But as far as kung anong brand ang marerecommend ko: Weider's MEGAMASS 4000 is still the best imo, kung ang target mo ay ang mag-gain ng WEIGHT (tumaba) AND MASS (muscles). SERIOUSMASS has the same effect.. pero kung mass talaga ang habol mo minus the unwanted fat, I'd personally prefer "protein isolates" na mass gainer, one brand I can recommend is Gaspari Nutrition's MYOFUSION. Mas mura din to compared to the other brands.

Actually protein shakes/supplements are relatively safe, with no serious side effects. I consider them under the "CLEAN SUPPLEMENT" category, meaning, talagang tumutulong lang sya para mas mataas ang protein intake mo, which as we all know, is essential in building muscles.

In my experience, ang side effect lang sakin ng protein supplements ay ang pag pass ng "gas". :)

  7. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND USPLabs' JACK3D! Panalo tong supplement na to. Best supplement ever! If you want to have:

    1. Better Pumps

    2. Amazing Endurance

    3. Superb Focus during workouts

    4. Great Intensity

Then Jack3d is the best supplement to take, I was REALLY amazed with this product, Hindi ako nakaramdam ng muscle fatigue the whole 1 1/2 hours of working out, It was really insane! At sa maniwala kayo o hindi, NEVER din akong hiningal even after doing each and every set for the whole 1 1/2 hours.

Medyo dangerous nga lang IMO, dahil I was feeling my pulse and it was really racing after each set, I even timed it at 147bpm, pero the amazing thing was that I was BREATHING NORMALLY despite the fact na ganon kabilis ang heart rate ko after doing each of my INTENSE sets dahil nga hindi ako nakaramdam ng hingal. So parang it goes against our body's natural reaction, so to counter that, I consciously monitored my heart rate at pag sobrang bilis na nya at kahit hindi ako hinihingal, medyo nagpapahinga ako ng konti, just to be safe.

Pero other than that, sobrang galing nitong supplement na to! I really recommend this to anyone who wants to have a great workout. I've been working out for almost 7 years now, pero I can confidently say na my workout this afternoon was my best workout ever!

    1. I was lifting heavier

    2. Doing more reps than the usual

    3. More sets the the usual

    4. More exercise per body part

And these are some of the keys when it comes to getting ripped.

BTW, The recommended dosage is 1-3 scoops pero I only took 1 scoop, since it was my first workout using the supplement, but still, I had great results.

  8. 1am, 09/04/2011; I was standing right outside my brother's computer shop when I saw a slight commotion just across the street beside a funeral parlor, people were starting to gather around, I saw a man and an old lady sobbing while another man opened the back of the ambulance, it turned out that there was a woman at the back of the ambulance who just minutes ago, passed away. She died while giving birth on her way to the hospital apparently due to blood loss. I don't know why, but everytime I see scenes like this, whether on TV or in person, it would always bring me to a sad state of mind, as if I was the one who lost a loved-one and I can almost feel the man and the lady's sadness as if I were them. It led me to think about the dead woman's life, what she did for a living and how she lived her life in general; Was she a loving wife or mother? Did she have a successful career? Or was she just a commoner and a poor member of the society? And I was thinking: It really doesn't matter and it's all worthless now, now that she's dead. And I've come into realization that nothing in this life is really worth it and it does not matter how one lived his/her life because once you're dead, everything becomes irrelevant. Your career, how much or little money you have in the bank and even your relationships; These are all worthless at the end of it all. You can be a successful business man/woman, have a wonderful career, lovelife etc. but in the end, all the things you worked hard for becomes worthless and irrelevant, and the people you loved and knew would simply go on with their lives once you're gone.

Most people say we're here on purpose, and that the reason we live is because we have a "mission" to fulfill, (Please spare me from that, how about your mom and dad were feeling romatically cozy one cold evening and decided to exchange bodily fluids and 9 months later a cute little you was born! How's that for a reason?) On a serious note, I realized that each and every single one of us are all the same; in the sense that all of us merely goes through life's motions, much like all the other living entity on this earth. We breathe, we laugh and smile when we're happy, cry when we're sad, eat when we're hungry, sleep when we're tired. Simply because that's how nature designed us, much like a bird were given wings to fly, a fish given gills to breathe under the sea or a coackroach who's main existence was for it to eat our leftover food (and probably give some children a dose of horror every once in a while). You see, we're no different from any other living thing on earth, except that we were given a more complex brain compared to the rest of them.

So in conclusion, having said all that, I say people should start living and start enjoying life on a daily basis, don't think too much of what your future holds, focus on your short and midterm goals, take advantage of what you have right now regardless of what you'll be getting in the future, cherish your current relationships, enjoy life to the fullest, live for yourself and for the ones you love but mostly, live for yourself, do whatever makes you happy. Regrets are for sissies.

As shallow as it may sound, but that's the real purpose of life whether you like it or not.

  9. Dear Myself,
