I remember hearing this kind of talk among my professors. It wasn't treated like juicy gossip, but like old news that everyone knew and kind of accepted. Ninoy, prior to his return to the country, wasn't deemed a saint, but a symbol of the fight against Marcos. Now he has almost god-like status.

That is why I think Marcos committed a grave mistake by having Ninoy killed. Is Macoy that dumb? If the story is true, Huks the precursor of the NPAs, then maybe it wasn't Macoy after all but the commies. Then again, is the gov't that dumb? But then again, this the only time that political left is actively cooperating with the gov't. Hmmmmm....... and the plot thickens.

Hmmmm.... i must be guilty of the same offense (although at a much smaller scale). I buy and sell things, from tons of corn grit to red onions to scrap tires. If I can match a buyer and a seller and earn 10% or more from both sides, I would. Should I tell my buyer who the seller is and vise versa? NOT! Who said, 12-18% is the norm? It maybe lower and it can be higher as well. If MVP was willing to buy at a higher price, why would I not sell? I've borrowed money from a bank to bankroll 100%, including my markup, of my transactions. I the end, if both business ends are met and satisfied, it's no problem. Based on what I've read so far, I don't think any laws was broken here. Pure shake down lang.

As always, great horn-blowing accompanies the latest multi-billion peso borrowing announced by PeNoy Aquino's Finance chief. Cesar Purisima clearly hopes this will drown out objective and critical analysis of the P44.1 billion in new loans added to the already enormous P4.6-trillion national government debt stock and our total debt of about P7 trillion. One headline even quotes the Hyatt 10 balik-secretary describing the oversubscribed issue as a "landslide vote of confidence," the "first peso-denominated bond outside the country," a "milestone," and "the first time an Asian country conducted a float using its own currency."

 

By real honest standards, however, forensic financial analyst Hero Vaswani of the Kilusang Makabansang Ekonomiya explains that there is nothing really great about it. If anything, that huge borrowing is merely evidence that the Philippine economy is unable to generate revenues, and that the government still has to borrow to finance its operations, despite claims of a 7.9-percent GDP growth.

 

A debt is a debt is a debt. Yet Purisima says the peso bond issuance "is the latest development in the (country's) financing program in support of the government's proactive management of external liabilities, particularly with respect to reducing its vulnerability to foreign currency risks." ...................................
