  1. As Karen Armstrong will say it, I am a Free Lance Monotheist. I have come to the realization that categorizing ourselves by religion can be and in most of the times, divisive, and when you look closely they are the same in essence. I now refuse to be confined by religious labels. God revealed Himself in all the major religions of the World. God is present in Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Islam, etc. The spiritual consciousness of humanity is already evolving such that humanity is beginning to see the oneness of all, including the different spiritual traditions.

  2. The Mission - I liked the scene when Robert De Niro started to cry when a Guarani Indian cut off the rope of all the weapons he was carrying. It was at this moment that he felt forgiveness for accidentally killing his brother and for capturing Guarani Indians for the slave trade.

Cloud Atlas - I liked the way it presented the connectedness of everything and the principle of reincarnation, which I now believes.

Patch Adams - I liked the way it portrayed basic human kindness and caring as cornerstone for healing.

Anno Domini - I liked the way it portrayed the history of the early Christian church in the context of the Roman Empire

The Legend of Bagger Vance - I liked the way it narrated a personal transformation story using golf as a background

  3. First and foremost, Buddhism is a path to liberation from suffering. In essence, it is a system of achieving peace in the present life. Gautama the Buddha intuited that suffering arises from a person's disordered selfish desires and that suffering can be ended by shifting our consciousness. He taught that we create our own suffering as we allow ourselves to be driven by our selfish desires, creating a mind that makes this suffering real. To end this suffering, we need to shift the mind to see things as they are and allow life to flow without clinging. In short, s@%t happens in life; but how we perceive the situation will determine whether we will suffer or we will be calm. Detached mindfulness is the heart of the practice that will allow this kind of living.

  4. Any recommendation on string quartet? I like the sound of music played by a group of string quartet. And also any recommendation on shows of string quartet group here in Manila?

  5. For fiction, I go to movies. I cannot muster the interest in reading their counterparts in books. However, I read a lot of books on non-fiction such as trade books, inspirational, etc. Though I know that reading books is a much better way of stimulating one's intellect and imagination compared to watching movies.

  6. I felt sad when I read that people miss contentment and happiness. Before I used to think that I missed contentment and happiness because I was not able to have what I wish and desire. But as I grow spiritually, I came to realize that contentment and happiness are not about having what I want and desire but that they are about the attitude and mindset that I use to see and perceive my reality. Once I learned that contentment and happiness are determined by my attitude, I can be peaceful and joyful no matter what my circumstances are.
