  1. truth to be told, its a bit expensive at $499 starting price. heck i can buy a decent netbook on half of that price. but then again, with apple, its all about the form factor. which would make everyone drool and shout: "i want one!", same hype that surrounded the iphone 3 years ago with people camping out the apple store for 24 hours prior its date of release. to buy this for now would be purely compulsive. tama si triton wait na lang for the 3rd generation when they've sorted out the bugs on this. although as a photographer, i may need one... but not just yet. :)

  2. ^some gun range allow guns to be deposited for the duration of the gun ban, owners drop by the range to shoot their guns & keep their guns back to the range safe

I believe this is true. One of the places you can do this is at PB Dionisio's Range in SFDM QC.

  3. i loathe the government for encouraging our creme dela creme to work outside the country in the hopes of bringing back some greens in order to stabilize the economy. without a doubt ofw's have greatly contributed to the economy by remitting billions of dollars back home. however, this is too steep of a price to pay by our kababayans back home. since most of the best and the brightest filipinos are elsewhere, its the foreigners who greatly benefit from our skills and talents. and only people left are either novices or newbies. this is especially true in the healthcare profession. brain drain indeed.

  4. as an ofw working here in the middle east, it's kindda sad that whenever i go home, most of the time it'll go unannounced - for a good reason actually. the first time i went home for a vacay, i was greeted with the same fanfare as most of the balikbayans would receive. however, i couldn't help but notice that even the people you knew who disappeared from obscurity would somehow manifest themselves only to find out that they are either selling you something or ask for a dole out. it's kindda pathetic since the occurring mentality at this point would be: you're rich and as if money grows in trees.

little do they know about the sacrifice we have to endure for the promise of a better standard of living. it's not easy working far away from your motherland, far away from the people you love and care about, far away from your comfort zone. and yet, all do they ever think about are the material possessions you've accumulated while working overseas. unfortunately, not everyone will be happy for your success. i have seen people who would be green with envy for your achievements. even to the point of putting you down for it. crab mentality surely knows no bounds, i say.

i know i maybe cynical about this issue. but reality bites.

  6. Anyone here still into FILM/ANALOG PHOTOGRAPHY? I think most aspiring "photographers" are just jumping into the DSLR fad, and not really into photography itself. I'm still into the beginners level. Sana meron ditong marunong magturo ng mga manual adjustments, and especially FILM DEVELOPING. I really wanna develop my own B&W pics!

My friend though the technology might have changed, the medium remains the same -- light. Using a DSLR doesn't mean you're not passionate about photography. But if you insist, try telling that to the guys over NASA who bought 30 pieces of Nikon D3s with a Nikon 14-24 mm f/2.8 AF-S lens or the official photographers of National Geographic using D3x.

Whether you're into Film or Digital, it boils down to both preference and convenience. The principles of photography nevertheless remains the same. If you do not understand what you're doing even if you're using a DSLR, you won't get great pictures. Ang hirap kasi sa atin, maraming epal na "feeling photographer" coz they have DSLRs strapped around their necks. Ayun it just became another status symbol since these things are rather expensive. Its pathetic really.

Also it just so happens that Digital is more convenient than film. For example an 8GB HC-SD card (roughly the size of a wrigley's juicy fruit gum) can produce over 600 12-bit RAW Images. In analog terms, its equivalent to around 18 pieces of 36-shot film. You wouldn't carry that amount of film when you do a photoshoot will you?

  7. photography is really not for everyone. i mean, anyone can pickup a point and shoot nowadays and practically shoot anything they point at and let the camera do the rest. however, IMHO, photography in its true sense goes beyond that. one should be truly passionate about it to understand what it means whenever you're looking behind a viewfinder. photography needs to be studied and at least for me, photography becomes a way of life. it's amazing how you look at things quite differently once you know its art and principles.

almost everyone can take snapshots. but only photographers can make great images.

  8. Bose - the best compact speakers

I wonder where we can buy cheaper Bose speakers, the prices at Bose stores always cost an arm and a leg.

that's true. but the prices at a Bang & Olufsen retail outlet will cost you your soul. hehehehe.
