Because these men are cowards. Who else would hit defenseless women? They can't hold their own against other men so they take it out on women. I agree with ganjaman, men like these should have the crap beaten out of them in public.
Btw, it was Sonny Corlenoe who beat the crap out of Connie's husband (Carlo). Michael killed Carlo for setting up the hit on Sonny.
