  1. Some of the suggestions here are sporting class or working type dogs that needs large spaces, It is unfair for both the dog and the owner. Unfair for the OP or even potential owners who think large breeds like Labradors or Rotts are a good idea for condo living.

They need constant stimulation and is a bundle of energy, and did i mention it needs a good amount of space? :-) Unused energy will be channeled somewhere else, usually your favorite shoes, electrical wires or your expensive furniture (chewed).

Like everything in the internet, take advise including mine with a grain of salt.

Even smallish type of dogs who looks fit for condo living has its disadvantages, I can simplify it by saying some some small dogs have what looks like a Napoleon complex, they compensate their lack of size by being yappy not a good idea if you have neighbors. But then again not one dog is the same, they have unique individual personalities like you and me. Ive a shitzu who barks a lot and his brother who is probably a dog version of a mime.

If i'm getting a dog for condo living, it'll be an bulldog either French or English. Low grooming maintenance not like a pom, s@%t tzu or maltese. Not yappy like pom. not bitey like a minipin or chuhuahua. not high strung and energetic like a terrier Some might ask why not a Pug? A Pug is fine but they tend to smell more than your average dog because of the skin folds.

Note that even small dogs needs daily walking, not as much as the large or medium breeds though.

  4. What is the P.I.'s relationship with Vietnam?

Apparently they have a maritime law that declares some jurisdiction over the Spratlys, even the Paracels Islands. China's State Council obviously has objections to Vietnam's law as they claim both island groups as their own, even assigning them their own Chinese-based names labeled by the city of Sansha as mentioned a few posts ago.

Cordial as we have the tiff with China as they do. They even had ramming incidents, survey ship cables being cut and even deaths of Vietnamese Marines back in 88. The difference is, Vietnam is handling the Chinese bullying better than we do.

I think you are referring to UNCLOS, which is 200nautical miles from land, the Philippines claim at WPS is encompassing other claimants Exclusive Economic Zone too, this is the reason why this should be settled at ITLOS or International Tribunal for the Law of the Seas.

Vietnam has been fighting with China over this atoll claim since the 70's and 80's. The P.I. barely drafted a peaceful resolution towards their claim in '92.

The animosity between the two countries goes as far back as the Vietnam war. One side being provided for by the Chinese and the Russians etc. and the other by the US and other countries.

The Chinese never expected us to react this way, some sectors are saying that this is a divertionary tactic to stroke up nationalistic sentiments and to veer the public away from the scandals the Chinese Government is facing right now, from a prominent leaders wife and sons involvement in the murder of a British national to the very roman sex capades of senior Chinese officials that recently leaked in the Chinese version of Tweeter called Weibo. And the biggest reason of all, the potentially huge amount of OIL and NATURAL GAS.

The Chinese think the older the map, the stronger it is as evidence. Assuming that the Chinese really has the 1270's map in their possession and presents it as evidence. The document MAY prove the Chinese discovered the shoal back then and documented it. But the Philippines is using the 1600's map not for determining who mapped the area first, but to prove that we exercised effective jurisdiction of the area since the year 1600's, and Bajo de Masinloc is a part of the municipality of Masinloc, Zambales Philippines. Even the fisher folks from Zambales regularly go there to fish until recently.

Who wins the legal battle then when these two evidences are presented? Obviously, the Philippines! The Chinese are aware of this and this is one of the many reasons why they do not want this settled by ITLOS, they will lose.

Effective jurisdiction supercedes discovery in any territorial claim and they are aware of this, reason why they established Sansha City which now covers Panatag shoal and Kalayaan Island Group. It doesn't matter who can produce the oldest map because old maps do not determine today's boundaries! What's important is that international law (based on international customs and treaties such as UNCLOS) sides with the Philippines. China cannot claim Panatag as an integral part of its territory or its baseline because Panatag is a shoal that is INCAPABLE OF SUPPORTING PERMANENT HUMAN SETTLEMENT, whereas Panatag is clearly within our EEZ and is inside the 200NM as designated by the international law. What they are doing inside our territorial waters is clearly trespassing and poaching!

  5. You said that Mussolini lay claim to the Balkans coz of the historical basis that it was once part of the Roman Empire. Great Britain, France, Germany Spain, etc. also were part of the Roman Empire so there is a historical basis for Mussolini to also claim these countries as part of Italy. I agree with you, though, that China doesn't have a historical basis for claiming Scarborough Shoal.

It is a logic that is both twisted and with malice, actually China is claiming to have historical basis, even mentioning an alleged Han dynasty map which up to now hasnt been shown.

The Treaty of Paris can prove that Scarborough is part of the Philippines using the maps used in the drafting of the treaty.

However, for Spratlys, the Philippines is using the concept of Res Nullius and effective jurisdiction to claim the said islands. With Japan surrendering the said islands in the Treaty of San Francisco and assigning it to no one, these islands became Res Nullius. The Philippines then exercised occupation and effective jurisdiction of the islands classified as Res Nullius since 1956, earlier than any other country who tried to forcibly occupy these islands.

  6. which is why the Chinese put structures on these islands. a form of occupancy. it could be a plaque, it could be a high wall surrounding a concrete garrison. where the Philippines has a hut and a flag on its island, the Chinese have a fort on theirs.

Yep, they even established Sansha city as a form of effective jurisdiction and administration that oddly enough cements our argument. Creeping invasion I tell ya :ninja:

  7. If your basis for the claims of Mussolini in the Balkans is coz it was once part of the Roman Empire, you might as well throw in France , Great Britain, Germany, Spain, etc. in the mix. These countries were once part of the Roman Republic then the Roman Empire.

This is the twisted basis of the Chinese :ninja: and they should be under Mongolia if we apply this line of reasoning B)

Fishing in distant waters does not confer ownership. The Japanese, the Americans and the Scandinavian countries have been whale fishing in Antarctic Waters since the l7th Century, but this was not used as a pretext by these countries to claim ownership of the Antarctic. The accepted principle in International Law is ownership is conferred on a country by right of discovery, which must be followed by effective occupation. Moreover, the occupation must be continuous.

This is the reason why the acts of Hitler and Mussolini drew universal condemnation before WW II because they did not have continuous occupation of the territories they were claiming. In the case of China now, they have never occupied the Scarborough Shoal at all in the past. They have not even claimed right of discovery; it is more likely that our pre-Spanish ancestors reached these waters before the Chinese. Thus, their claim to Scarborough Shoal is on far more on shaky ground than Hitler and Mussolini’s territorial claims before World War II.

The Spanish name for Scarborough shoal is "Bajo de Masinloc" literally meaning "under Masinloc". It is also called Panacot. Masinloc is a municipality in Zambales, Philippines. So Scarborough was, during Spanish rule, UNDER MASINLOC.

China named it "Huangyan Dao" only during the 1947 (if I recall correctly)? So... are they lying to us now by saying the Chinese had a name for it already before the Spanish named it "Bajo de Masinloc"? You can refer to the 1749 Fr. Pedro Murillo Velarde Map of the Philippines for this.

  8. Speaking of the flaws of the VFA. Whats Ironic is, the accuser (Nicole) is now living in the US

I would rather that we stand on our own and revive the SDRP, fastrack the modernization and narrow the gap. We all know the this 9 dash claim is nuts! The Chinese actions on the South Seas dispute is aggression pure and simple and it is because of its natural resources and the purported presence of oil.

It is far worse than the actions of Hitler and Mussolini on the eve of World War II. Hitler’s claims on the Sudetenland and German-speaking parts of Poland have at least some historical basis. At one time these areas were part of the First Reich i.e. Charlemagne’s Holy Roman Empire. Mussolini’s claims to parts of the Balkan Peninsula like Albania and parts of Yugoslavia also have historical basis. They were once part of the Roman Empire. In the case of the Chinese claims to the South China Sea its only basis is that their fishermen have been fishing in these waters since way back.

Fishing in distant waters does not confer ownership. The Japanese, the Americans and the Scandinavian countries have been whale fishing in Antarctic Waters since the l7th Century, but this was not used as a pretext by these countries to claim ownership of the Antarctic. 9. Exactly. because we can't afford those F-xx's, not only for their price but also for the maintenance cost. i believe the contract for the TA50's have been signed already and that partial delivery will be late 2013. Aircrafts if properly maintained can be operational for 50 years so 1975 + 50 = 2025. Actually, Saudi Arabia is still using the Tornados. The only reason Italy and GB are retiring these is the same reason rich people change cars every 3 years; because they can. They are moving up to Typhoon Eurofighters.

I agree, and we still need a real Fighters/interceptors with long legs, This is the main issue I dont like with the TA50s, its short leg.

Speaking of the Saudis, they are still fully utilizing its F5s in its inventory, goes to show that if particular platform is well handled it can last really long.

Yup, they are moving up to the EuroFighters, I think even the Dutch are planning to sell some from of its Wing Assets.

  10. one word: PRICE. the TA-50 costs around 28M dollars and as i have said, if those countries would play sta. claus, meaning they would offer them at bargain price. take note also that the Tornado is not a light fighter aircraft like the TA-50. they are full-sized fighter-bombers.

Cost is indeed the main consideration, but we need a platform operable for the next 15 years, how many years and flying hours do you think the Tornado's have, assuming they play St.Nick and give us a very very bargain price  we looked at the 2nd hand/ refurbished options YAKs, Kfirs, F16s and even F5s to name a few and it would be practical to get a new platform with our intended time frame/budget and skill gap.

I prefer we get the best, heck even an F22 raptor but we cant and if we still pursue the F16 route in the near future then the next best thing would be a TA or FA50

  11. Great Britain and Italy have recently retired their Tornados. How I wish they would play sta. klaus to us. what is junk to others maybe treasure to others. pilots who have the f-5's and the s-211 can easily adjust to it since tornados are 3rd gen only.

Why get/buy 3rd Gen Fighters when you can get the a 4.5 Gen LIFT like the FA/TA50 of the Koreans?

At least we will not anymore be a 2 ship navy. PLA has to shoot us 3 times in order to bring our navy down to it's knees.

We have plans to get more, Rule of 3.

Talk with the Italians are in the finalization stages, and we will be getting 2 Maestrales class frigates from them and maybe a Minerva as a deal sweetener, unfortunately for our Armed forces, its was neglected for the past 25years and we concentrated on COIN and overlooked our ex.defs. Just because we dont hear anything about the modernization doesnt mean nothing is happening, In fairness to Pnoy, what he has done for the AFP in the past 3 years is far greater that what the Little Lady did in 9.
