No. Just connect CCTV cam to your recorder (DVR).
Connecting TV or monitor to the recorder is optional during recording.
Connecting a monitor or TV will be required when you want to review your recordings.
Hint: Just have a spare HDMI or component AV cable plugged into your recorder, ready to be plugged into any TV or monitor available when needed.
