ask ko lang.. is there a program or an ftp server which sends out an email notification to someone whenever a file gets uploaded to an ftp folder? parang automated confirmation email that a file was uploaded.

 

the reason for this is I don't want to dedicate someone just to click refresh every now and then just to check if a new file was uploaded.

I think it would be better if you setup a DMS (document management system) would be better. since it leverages better control.

My concerns on GG: Wazup? have you guys experienced any problem with GG already. Any new feature or matter that should attend to? What are the 'diff's? and what do the new kernel exhibit?

 

At my work, we just deployed Feisty to various users. And now I intend to skip Feisty and have Gutsy already for further deployments. Too bad, I might as well oblige myself to upgrade the earlier 'Feisties' :cry:

bro... been using Gutsy since it came out and I find overall good a bit its a bit more rough around the edges than feisty. It seems that there is an aura of the reelased being rushed by the developers. A lot of small and minor annoyance but not enough to destroy the exprience. If you need help with it let me know i might be able to provide some assistance.!

Its obviously ubuntu. unless you changed the menu bar icon to the ubuntu icon. Also, the Menu Items Applications, Places and System are the default for GNOME system which also the default desktop environment of Ubuntu.

Hi, have you heard of running linux on a memory stick? How does it compare with running linux on a pc?

I think you will find feather linux interesting since it is able to run from a USB stick. Only issue is that it will wear the stick down since it will be accessed more extensive. Speed is a bit slower though

I don't have any background in linux and looking at that link, it didn't seem straight-forward to me. I don;t even know where to type those commands in.

i didn't install any driver for my video card.. naka default na sya from the time i installed the os (ubuntu).. kaya siguro parang umaalon yong firefox.. i tried to google for the inno3d geforce driver pero walng support para sa linux (ubuntu).. wala na ba chance na mapagana ko auto run ng cd? para mainstall ko driver..

Installing NVIDIA card drivers are pretty straight forward if you have a DSL or any broadband connection. You just simply follow the instructions found on this website:

Install NVIDIA proprietary drivers.

I'm using Nvidia card, i think tama ka bro.. kasi nung ini-install ko yung driver ayaw gumana ng auto-run ng mga cd.. ano ba dapat ko i-update para ma-auto run yong mga driver sa ubuntu..

How did you install the driver for NVIDIA?

honestly, i don't know how and what to fix with x.. suggestion lang ni roninblade..(see post above..) yong problema ko sa ubuntu is yong firefox, para syang umaalon pag nagscroll up ang down.. pero mabilis naman magbrowse.. do you experience the same with ubuntu?

I think your video card was not properly detected so the defualt driver was installed. Are you using an NVIDIA card? or an ATI Card?

What do you exactly need to do with X? maybe I can help... i started out with ubuntu warty warthog and probably can share some of my experiences.

anybody tried using FreeBSD are their default setup? You can also check out PCBSD if you want a ready made BSD based Desktop

Im actually using a P3 system. And ubuntu edgy eft simply flies on the system. after a few modificatoins of course.

Ubuntu Linux have a come along since it Warty Warthog days. The desktop is now really really refined and its packages despite some being bleeding edge, are very very stable. While Ubuntu 6.06 or fondly called as Dapper Drake is known to have Long Term Support (hence the LTS in its name), I still prefer using the latest build, in this case, is Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft.

Now, while most of the functionalities of my laptop, worked out of the box, I found out that my wireless PCMCIA card, a Linksys WPC54G version 3.0 card, did not work out of the box. So i triffled through the Ubuntu Community Support Forums and I found this entry -- How to: Broadcom Wireless card.

Hi bro,

He actually start doing almost anything with Ubuntu since it already has a lot of applications installed. If you are using Ubuntu, The start button can be found on the upper left side of the screen (where the ubuntu logo is located). You will find out that it already has a lot of things installed.

1. Web-Browser -- Firefox -- you can access by going to the internet menu

2. Instant Messenger -- GAIM -- you can use this program to login into your msn, yahoo, ICQ accounts all at the sametime!

3. Office Applications -- You can openoffice Writer, Calc, Impress and Base which can directly open files created by Microsoft Office.

4. Email / PIM -- Evolution -- this is the what we coined the Outlook killer in the Open source world. good for emails, calendaring etc.

And once you start getting the feel of the operating system. You can start learning more about ubuntu by going to either the forums (http://www.ubuntuforums.org) or the newbie's guide (http://www.ubuntuguide.org)

What version are you using? 6.10? 6.06?

I had the same problems with Firefox 2.0.0.0 but I downloaded version 2.0.0.1 which fixed my problems. I suggest you do the same.
