  1. Has anyone tried using the ipad2 and playing the videos on a larger screen like a television set. (AV cable are sold separately)

    any comments ????

Working on one, but haven't had time for the setup. I find the AV cable from Apple too expensive so I am ordering online for one which has not been delivered (Apple HDMI - HDMI) from monoprice.com.

  2. Sir did you have your Ipad 2 jailbroken? may I inquire where you or how you did it? planning to get one for my wife po sana eh, TIA

I have an ipad 2 wifi only jailbroken on 4.3.3 via jailbreakme.com (jailbreakme 3.0). Much easier on an ipad2 wifi rather than with 3G - no pain on making sure the baseband is not updated if you need an unlock. But most ipad2's sold in the PH are unlocked anyway.

If you want to JB your ipad2 - make sure it is on 4.3.3. This version is the last stable one which can be used for the easiest JB method. I assume you are a new ipad2 user, so my advice is JB via jailbreakme.com. Anything higher than that - well, methods are available, but requires careful treading with the guides on the internet. For new users - I do not recommend using the JB tools out there as you need to be fully confident with your understanding of the steps, and fully aware of the possible nasty consequences of JB.

As for JB with jailbreakme.com, 1) verify your version if it is 4.3.3 2) make a backup in Itunes 3) Make sure you have stable and reliable internet access then Using Safari on your ipad2, navigate to jailbreakme.com and follow the instructions. There are also additional instructions on patching the security holes in 4.3.3 - so take heed.

If you are successful, you should see the Cydia Icon installed.

  3. I watched the Mayweather-Ortiz fight and I saw some panic in Mayweather's eyes when Ortiz had him pinned to the ropes and was swarming him with punches. Some hit, some did not. Then he followed up with that boner of a headbutt. IMHO, it exposed Mayweather's chink - being pressured and pinned and swarmed. And I don't think Mayweather can dance away too much now - he was slow in that fight.

Pacquiao has that ability - to close-in, pin and pummel an opponent, and unload punch after punch, after round after round.

Mayweather is in a bind - don't fight Pacman and he will forever be doubted with his claim as the best for the rest of his life. But if he fights, and he runs and defends only (ala Clottey) - he will never live down the jeers and chants of being a patsy whether he wins or loses. If he fights and goes toe-to-toe, well he may have a chance. He needs to do it with one punch and make sure Pacman stays down (very unlikely). Odds are always gonna be for Pacman to win in a brawl. And it Mayweather loses in a brawl - end of the line for him.

  4. First time I remember the ipad1 hanged was after I got it Oct of 2010, when I tried doing streaming 720p video to my ipad1 (jailbroken) from an XBMC server - using VLC (when it was not yet removed from App Store). VLC hanged first then the ipad1 'froze' - no response from the home and power buttons. No choice - had to do hard reset (power cycle). A little bit of digging into the various forums and on 1080p/720p sites - the ipad1 lower A4 chip cannot handle the encoding/decoding of 720p video. Well - it was described, the ipad1 was not capable of true 720p HD playback. Note to self - no more HD video on the ipad1.

Got an ipad2 in May and as the A5 chip was supposed to be able to handle HD playback, did the same. Streaming from an XBMC server to the ipad2 on a full battery. First 30-45mins was a blast, 720p playback excellent. Everything went downhill after that. Playback became sluggish. Then the video application quit unexpectedly, followed again by the ipad2 'freezing'. Hard reset (power cycle) again to recover. Again, digging into the video streaming forums, and then it led me to Apple support forums, I found explanations with the most common having to do with the way WiFi operates on the ipad. It is described as the WiFi connection in some instances arbitrarily going to 'sleep mode' or lowering power quickly as a method of conserving battery life. This would typically happen if data transfer in and out of the ipad was discontinuous or in surges (typical web use). Unfortunately there seems to be some inconsistency with the system in identifying that the HD video stream is continuous, and thus it should be keeping the wifi power stable. Thus with continuous and consistent data streams, there may be some instances when 'freezing' may happen. That would figure - HD 720p decoding takes a strain on the dual-core A5 chip and plus the suck on resources with keeping WiFi on for a stable and consistent HD playback experience.

So far - those are the two instances which I have found answers to the instances which my ipads froze.

My apologies for the long post ....

  5. never happened to me my friend :)

never happened to me my friend :)

Well happened to me quite a few times - both on an ipad and an ipad2. Well both are jailbroken and have SSH and I leave a lot of apps running in the background.

  6. Interesting piece from Yahoo....

    http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/box/news;_ylt=AhMJs7gBcznAv.U.NehKnlpShgM6?slug=dw-wetzel_mayweather_ortiz_merchant_091911

    an excerpt:

"Here is what happened to some of Pacquiao’s last seven opponents:

Antonio Margarito, pummeled repeatedly, broken orbital bone, sent to hospital. Miguel Cotto, pummeled repeatedly, TKO, sent to hospital. Ricky Hatton, knocked out cold, sent to hospital, hasn’t fought since. Oscar De La Hoya, pummeled repeatedly, TKO’d, hasn’t fought since. David Diaz, pummeled repeatedly, TKO’d, sent to hospital.

The other two (Joshua Clottey, Shane Mosley) essentially refused to fight, covered up for 12 rounds and accepted lopsided losses by decision.

Pacquiao doesn’t just defeat opponents; he punishes them right into an ambulance. Mayweather, attempting to spin the argument, notes that he beat most of those guys before Pacquiao and claims he “softened them up."

Perhaps. It’s also possible Mayweather sees the destruction Pacquiao can do to a man’s health, reputation and career, and wouldn’t mind avoiding him completely."

I saw another piece in Sports Illustrated last week - can't find the link yet, but generally it said the reason why this Gayweather does want to address the question of fighting Pacman is he is afraid of the mere thought that he can lose and have his undefeated record taken away from him and thereby his main claim for greatness.

Well - Gayweather is on the defensive now - it is a question asked of him - when will he fight Pacman.

  7. Thanks dabsj - I stand corrected. You are right. Should have checked my sources. He was scheduled to have a book signing here in halifax but this did not push through. Looks like HBO is now monopolizing his time. Let's wait if he does meet July 2011.

Am still not comparing it to Rome - to early with only a couple of episodes.

  8. The first two episodes were more into introducing the characters and setting up the breadth of the Series. Looks like so far they are not deviating too much from the books as the print series does have its faithful followers. But the seeds of conflict are being shown. It would be a massive undertaking as there are different families and places to showcase - hopefully HBO does a good job of maintaining the storyline.

George R. R. Martin, the writer of the book said he will finish the 4th one this July 2011. There is much material in just the first three books so I think if the interest is sustained - this will be a long series.

  9. I use two wallets - one with all the IDs, credit card and large bill and another which has the smaller bills and no important IDs. It was a precaution against holdups during the days when I was using the bus to commute between work and home. Just give the other 'lesser wallet' when a holdup occurs. Became a habit - but usually when I am sitting at work or driving I take it out so as not to deform the wallet.

  10. ROMCAT - split from the infamous "bating-bating" WALLIS taxi. Other names which split from the former WALLIS: Glowing Stone and also World. Most of these ply QC areas, SM North. As much as possible - avoid these taxi companies especially peak hours and evening.

  11. ep 1 and ep 2 - Nice!

At times it does look like 28 Days Later - but most of the scenes are done in broad daylight - so no darkness adding to the suspense factor. I do hope they sustain this level - less of course the inconsistencies. No damn pause with knowing there is a zombie in front of you then closeup pan to the look of horror on the face of the victim - this one, mas madami ang wide shots sa action.

Iba ang dating - honestly mahirap isipin kahit bakal pa din yung loob ng tank - dami naman naghihintay sa labas - begs to ask, what will you do?

spoiler ep2: damn had a nice time seeing scofield's gf (Sarah Wayne Callies) done from behind. Short duration only and not graphic.... :)

  12. good am to all, i don't know if im in the right room, my gusto lang sana ako i-tanong sa mga fellow mac users. i just bought a Macbook with Intel core 2 duo @ 2.0Ghz 4gb memory and 160 hard drive. and im planning to buy a Western Digital External hard drive either a 640gb or 1TB. and im having a second thought it might cause a problem with the compatibility or something.

thanks i hope to here answer from u guys.

Don't think you will have a problem. Although IMHO as long as the WD hard drive is formatted as FAT (same as typical USB thumbdrives, it will work with MB, I took the 'safe' route and looked up the WD site and made sure I bought the one which is specified as compatible with Mac (WD Home Edition 512GB). The difference is that the WD had Firewire ports with it which MB's (white) has. Apple eliminated Firewire with the Aluminum Unibody MB's it launched mid 2008.

By the way - I use external HDDs (with off-the-shelf external cases) formatted as FAT and the MB detects them.
