  1. Please help me out. my pc is a p-4 1.8 ghz with 256 ddr. I recently changed my os from win me to win xp pro. whenever i play games, it hangs. when use other programs, it takes a long time to open and when it does there is a mesage " the systems just recovered from a serious error" asking me to send to microsoft.

is there anyway to trouble shoot the problem? or do i need to clean install all over again?

    thanks!!

Aside from all the comments above....

Try putting another stick of 256mb memory on your machine, right now it's pretty cheap around 1,200 per 256 ddr 400 module could be cheaper for a ddr 333 or 266. Windows XP is a memory hog, requires at least 256 minimum to run smoothly, but minimum does'nt quite cut it. With more memory, programs would definitely load faster and games would run smoother however i am not sure as to why your set-up hangs whenever you play games. This could be caused by a lot of things, if changing the driver doesn't work it could caused by faulty components, could be memory or the videocard itself, could also be your Power Supply Unit. Game crashes is a usual symptom of failing PSU especially if you own a modern vga card which consumes a lot of power. In 2d mode a defective psu might work but once you turn on 3d mode the vga card will thus require more power putting stress on your PSU, if your unit is defective then it might not be able to send enough juice to your power hungry videocard thus crashing whatever game you are playing.

    Hope this helps

  2. Manny Pacquiao is today the most well known Filipino sproting figure. Like the famous Flash elorde he is showing the world what a real filipino is capable of.

This coming February he will again face Juan Manuel Marquez in the squared circle...

Through this thread I'd like to show my support to show my support and wish that he beats the hell out of his mexican oppenent...

    My fellow Filipino mabuhay ka!

  3. He he he. I guess its a lil bit too late. My PC just got infected with a virus called W32.Weird. Medyo mukhang mabusisi ang pag tanggal. NAV wasnt able to remove but they gave me a pretty tough direction on how to remove it. It tells me to use a startup disk or DOS an locate an .EXE file with a 10,240 byte size and remove it by DOS commands.

I got the virus through an MP3 disc. It was in a winamp folder stored in the disc. I wouldnt have ever thought that such a disc would contain a virus, but then again, i'm a victim.

w32.weird done some reading mukhang backdoor trojan yan, steals password or other security stuff through the net, anyway they would only be able to get to you if they know your ip address, but it will not do you anyharm because you got it through a cd, if it was directly sent to you through internet hina-hack ka na... no other malicious content other than that di nakaksira ng file or anything... but just to be safe k*ll the sucker!!!

  4. ahhhh when i boot up 2 folders open up automatically. Wala naman sa startup. How do I take this out? Do I have to do that regedit thingy? :grr:

there are two ways to automatically start a program, one is with the usual start-up and the other through registry keys so i tink you really need to fiddle with that registry thingy again but before doing so check out if the culprits are programs that you have instealled in your pc... the proper way to troubleshoot is to backtrack... what were the programs you installed or websites you accessed before the magic folders suddenly appeared just righht after start-up. What are the folder labels are they new or temp folders? try to identify this things first before going on and clearing bad registry keys...

  5. need help....having problem with iexplore.exe

whenever i go to check my mail in mail.yahoo.com, the iexplore process shoots up!

some sites causes iexplore to use up all my CPU time.

killing the iexplore will make the system process eats CPU time.

i have scanned for spyware and no virus activity at all. no unrecognized process running as well.

i'm running xp prof with sp1.

any ideas on how to figure this one out?

please...don't tell me to use netscape or other browsers.

Just as what level3 recomended clear your internet cache and cookies, also try to download registry mechanic or any other registry auto repair software available, by the way if you have norton utilities it has windoctor... these programs will clear out orphaned or damged registry keys.... use this in conjunction with whatever anti-spyware software you have. you can also try updating mshtml.dll file there where certain bugs found on this dll file... i've heard that this was fixed with sp2.

  6. hi guys i just wanna ask what software can i use for video editing and converting 3gp files to mpeg or avi. i wanna know too what software and video format is the best for converting analog movies to digital. thanks

theres a program called 3gp to raw avi converter you can search for it on the web... once you've converted your 3gp file to raw avi you can use virtualdub to convert it to whatever format you want... you can also download virtual dub on the net...

To be able to convert analog video to digital you will need a video capture card on your pc... or if you have a firewire port you can get an analog to digital converter however this costs around 16K but this is definitely the better alternative this method turns your analog video to dv format videos which is the standard format for modern day videocams.

  7. At last!!! No more problems(so far). I had my pc reformated. Now it seems everything is running smoothly. Nakakainis nga lang coz i wasnt able to save my files. Thanks again to menime and extreme for the help. Hope you guys continue to help the other dummies and not-so dummies here.

No problem dude, glad we were able to help...

By the way extreme and nox are right, install an anti virus program to keep your pc clean

  8. Unless when you clean install and choose leave file system/(like don't format the existing partition) it will not overwrite your files but the directories will be different you need to search it manually after installation.

yup extreme is right... you can do a clean install of windows without formating your partition however this will leave some of the previous windows instalation files intact which in the end you would be deleting one by one to recover the disk space alocated to it...

i really suggest that you back your data and do a clean install on a newly formated hd, it would be easier and hassle free for you to do so for you to do so.

  9. If I buy another XP OS, will it delete my saved files?

An OS upgrade wont delete your existing file... However if you do a clean install all you files will be deleted... If you have CD burner I suggest you save all important files in it before going ahead with a clean install.

  10. BTW. Any idea on how much an original WinXP OS cost?

(edited because of typo) for win xp home edition around 3500 to 4000 pesos, win xp pro around 8,500 to 9,000 pesos.

  11. menime & extreme - Damn those vendors!!! They didnt tell me anything about that. I'm using WinXP Home Edition. If I buy the corporate edition and use it, am I gonna start from scratch again?

It would be better to start from scratch, but i guess you can upgrade your existing os from home edition to xp pro, you wouldn't have to change anything if it works but havent tried it myself though.

  12. Damn, you're right!!! I downloaded the latest driver and it worked!!!

Now, one more thing: I used a pirated XP os  , now I got 15 days left to activate it. Will i lose everything here if I dont activate it? (obviously, I can't activate it cause its an illegal copy). :(

Is your copy of windows saying that you need to activate it, mine doesn't I'm also using a pirated copy of windows, where did you buy your cd? The ones that you get from your greenhills tiange doesn't need to be activated because they pirated the corporate edition of winxp pro.
