What Poetry Moved You?

Recommended Posts

I posted this somewhere, damn I forgot where. Forgot the author too, but I memorized this one by heart years ago. It remain one of my favorites.

This one goes out to the forgotten soldiers out there who belong to another age, yet go about their duties here and now because it is not in them to do otherwise. May you recover the Shards of Eternity that are hidden within these blasted and broken mortal realms, and in putting these together, may you realize that victory is inevitable, even if it was not given to you to see it.

Over the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole

I thank whatever Gods may be

for my unconquerable soul

In the fell clutch of Circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud

Under the bludgeonings of Chance

my head is bloody buy unbowed

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

looms but the horrors of the Shade

Yet the menace of the years finds

and shall find me unafraid

It matters not how straight the gate

How charged with punishment the scroll

I am the master of my fate

I am the captain of my soul

Try Sanctum in Intramurous, they have poetry nights often.

Ah.... can anyone tell me some details about that Sanctuarium...the one with the poetry reading and all...

I'm kinda curious, that's all. I'm a huge dark poetry fanatic, hence this I've simply gotta see.

Awaiting further discussions, friends.

SexyASS!!! Don't mention it, am glad to be of help. ;) Oh did I mention the ambiance there is so relaxed? It's like a living room with divans, throw pillows and even something like an Opium Bed. Very different and very nice.

Darkside ... it's SANCTUM not sanctuarium. Baka kasi saan ka mapadpad at hindi sa Intramurous. LOL.

For lovers, young and old...

Tonight I can write the saddest lines...

by Pablo Neruda

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.

Write, for example, "The night is shattered, and blue stars shiver in the distance."

The night wind revolves in the sky and sings.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.

I loved her, and sometimes, she loved me too.

Through nights like this one I held her in my arms.

I kissed her, again and again under the endless sky.

She loved me, sometimes I loved her too.

How could one not have loved her great still eyes?

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.

To think that I do not have her.

To feel that I have lost her.

To hear the immense night, still more immense without her.

And the verse falls to the soul like dew to the pasture.

What does it matter that my love could not keep her?

The night is shattered and she is not with me.

This is all.

In the distance, someone is singing.

In the distance, my soul is not satisfied that it has lost her.

My sight searches for her as though to go to her.

My heart looks for her, and she is not with me.

The same night whitening the same trees.

We of that time are no longer the same.

I no longer love her, that's certain.

But how I loved her.

My voice tried to find the wind to touch her hearing.

Another's.

She will be another's .

Like my kisses before.

Her voice.

Her bright body.

Her infiniter eyes.

I no longer love her, that's certain.

But maybe I love her.

Love is so short.

Forgetting so long.

Because through nights like this

I held her in my arms, my soul is not satisfied that it has lost her.

Though this be the last pain she makes me suffer,

and these,

the last verses

I write for her.

nice to see madaming fans si pablo neruda dito.

here is another one, excerpt lang ng "If you forget me"

Well now, if little by little you stop loving me,

I shall stop loving you, little by little.

If suddenly you forget me, do not look for me

for I shall already have forgotten you.

If you think at long and mad the wind banners that passes through my life

and you decide to leave me at the shore of the heart where I have roots,

remember than on that day, at that hour I shall lift my arms

and my roots will set off to seek another land.

But if each day each hour

you feel that you are destined for me with implacable sweetness.

If each day a flower climbs up to your lips to seek me, ah my love,

ah my own, in me all that fire is repeated,

in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,

my love feeds on your love beloved,

and as long as you live in will be in your arms without leaving mine.

Hehe nice one RIVER ... pwede din sa San Antonio. LOL

I love Neruda, so prolific and lyrical. Fluid. Fascinating how his writings can be etched with pain and yet so soothing, filled with craving, longing and yet so fulfilling, clothed with words and yet so Naked.... like this one:

Naked, you are simple as a hand,

smooth, earthy, small...transparent, round.

You have moon lines and apple paths;

Naked, you are slender as the wheat.

Naked, Cuban blue midnight is your color,

Naked, I trace the stars and vines in your hair;

Naked, you are spacious and yellow

As a summer's wholeness in a golden church.

Naked, you are tiny as your fingernail;

Subtle and curved in the rose-colored dawn

And you withdraw to the underground world

As if down a long tunnel of clothing and of chores:

your clear light dims, gets dressed, drops its leaves,

And becomes a naked hand again.

Last na ito for today ... promise. Another fave of mine from Neruda .....

I Like For You to be Still

I like for you to be still: it is as though you were absent,

and you hear me from far away and my voice does not touch you.

It seems as though your eyes had flown away

and it seems that a kiss had sealed your mouth.

As all things are filled with my soul

you emerge from the things, filled with my soul.

You are like my soul, a butterfly of dream,

and you are like the word Melancholy.

I like for you to be still, and you seem far away.

It sounds as though you were lamenting, a butterfly cooing like a dove.

And you hear me from far away, and my voice does not reach you:

Let me come to be still in your silence.

And let me talk to you with your silence

that is bright as a lamp, simple as a ring.

You are like the night, with its stillness and constellations.

Your silence is that of a star, as remote and candid.

I like for you to be still: it is as though you were absent,

distant and full of sorrow as though you had died.

One word then, one smile, is enough.

And I am happy, happy that it's not true.

Love

Because of you, in gardens of blossoming flowers I ache from the

perfumes of spring.

I have forgotten your face, I no longer remember your hands;

how did your lips feel on mine?

Because of you, I love the white statues drowsing in the parks,

the white statues that have neither voice nor sight.

I have forgotten your voice, your happy voice; I have forgotten

your eyes.

Like a flower to its perfume, I am bound to my vague memory of

you. I live with pain that is like a wound; if you touch me, you will

do me irreparable harm.

Your caresses enfold me, like climbing vines on melancholy walls.

I have forgotten your love, yet I seem to glimpse you in every

window.

Because of you, the heady perfumes of summer pain me; because

of you, I again seek out the signs that precipitate desires: shooting

stars, falling objects.
