Just a while ago we were congratulating Storm for reaching 100 pages...looks like it's on it's way to another hundred!

 

Hey augustmoon, centennial na pala ng peyups in 2008....no doubt it's an event not to be missed!

 

Speaking of 70s hot girls, for me there were only 2 of them - Crispy Santamaria and Alicia Cuenca. I had the good fortune to meet the latter, though it was just a casual introduction.

 

I checked my iPod earlier today and I'd say about 70% of it's contents are 70s music.

Remember the morbid and gross rumor about Pilar Pilapil? so unbelievable parang walang pinagkaiba sa rumor sa See-true ni Inday Badiday na babae nanganak ng dalag. pang national enquirer.

2. Ang major car accessory was the musical backup horn.

 

3. Dig-man ang pinaka-sikat na halo-halo.

 

4. Buying Vick’s candy - triangular in shape, regular and kalamansi flavor. Ang mga candy/bubble gum na bilog na iba’t-ibang kulay ay lima singko - yuong puro pula na bubble gum ay yuong cherry balls.

 

5. Nakakabili ka ng Greenwich pizza na kalahati lang, sabay aliw na aliw ka sa vendo machines dispensing softdrinks in a cup (waxed paper) and not in cans. Kung tumagilid ang baso at natapon ang binubuhos na softdrinks eh pasensiya ka.

 

6. Nagpalit ng theme song ang John en Marsha to the tune of Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough.” Nagkaroon na sila ng aircon sa barong-barong na bahay pero front cover lang pala.

 

7. Baduy na baduy ka sa opening ng TODAS (Television’s Outrageously Delightful All-star Show) on Channel 13 with Val Sotto, Spanky Rigor,and Freida Fonda.

 

8. Si Bibeth, Mang Tem-I, Miss Tapia, Mary at si Tonette Macho ang kasama ni TVJ sa Iskul Bukol. Kumpleto pa ang ngipin ni Richie D’ Horsie.

 

9. Nakikipag-debate kung sino ang mas magaling… si Officer John Baker or si Officer Frank Puncherelo sa CHIPS.

 

10. Inaabangan mo kung anong gagawin ng A-Team para makatakas at makabawi sa kalaban nila - ano ba ‘yan, wala namang namamatay na kalaban kahit na anong pagbaril o pagsabog.

 

11. Bagong labas lang ang bakya na rubberized (Happy Feet brand) para malambot, hindi na kahoy.

 

12. Uso ang Espadrille na sapatos, Crayon shoes at Grosby rubbershoes. Bago pa lang labas ang top sider na sapatos - Sperry at Docksiders pa lang ang tatak na U.S., and Haruta Penny Loafers. Yup, it's quieted down a notch, but also better time management is the key. I try to work more hours offline.

 

One thing that hasn't changed at all since the 70s are our so-called local variety shows. It's ironic they call them such when the format is basially the same for the past 40 years. Oh well, if it sells....

 

Jingle magazines eventually became Twinkle, di ba? Dun ako natuto mag guitara. Speaking of guitars, hows pareng eight-track doing? Pareng Masi and Mareng Liberty?

the pioneer kp-500 comes in 2 variants, the stereo cassette and the 8 track w/c is found mostly found in passenger jeepneys then. btw, i still have the stereo cass. with me and believe it or not its still in very good condition although nakakabit nalang sa office ko

Yup, Pioneer was my favorite stereo brand then. In fact, nasa bahay pa rin namin sa 'Pinas iyong aking receiver, turntable, and 2-way speakers that we bought back in 1979!

 

If I remember right, ang mga naglalaban na brands noon on the local scene were Kenwood, Pionner, Panasonic, and Akai. May Sony na rin pero it was not as prominent as the others when it came to stereos. Bose was not that known or famous either. Among the brands I mentioned, I believe Kenwood was at the high end of the price scale. Pioneer and Panasonic competed for second.

 

The receivers also came with those wire FM antennas that you taped on your wall. Remember those?

A lot of KP-500's were sold and installed at Roger's Roadstar stall at Autocycle. Mayroon pang mga EQ's with "reverb" pa. When you installed a Tri-axial in the rear, ok ka na (or so we thought back then)!

The most memorable movie of our high school days was Gone in 60 Seconds. Almost the whole batch watched that movie at the same time at Cinema 21 in Cubao. Cinema 21 was famous for its reclining seats.

 

Memorable cult film "for the boys" from '74. The following year, it was "Death Race 2000". Uso ang mga films with car chases after French Connection scored big in '71. The trend wore itself out towards the end of the decade. Other films of that kind I can recall are the Seven-Ups (w/ Roy Scheider), Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry & Race with the Devil (both with Peter Fonda). Marami pa diyan, including films with Bronson or Eastwood.

I agree with you, pards. My 2 favorite car chase scenes are from Bullitt (1968, starred Steve McQueen) and The Seven-ups (1973) with Roy Scheider. The Seven-ups car chase scene through the streets of Manhattan was great. I never tire of watching it whenever the movie is shown on cable. I read somewhere that Roy Scheider did not use a double for these scenes. I believe it was inspired by the car chase scene in Bullitt where the chases were filmed in San Francisco. Such scenes from both movies are truly classics! :thumbsupsmiley:

Thunderbirds was a marionette series imported from England. The original series actually ran from 1965 to 1966. I do recall seeing reruns on tv in the late 60s (oops!)/early 70s.

 

Same with The Wild, Wild West which ran in the US from 1965 to 1969. Sa 'Pinas, it was regularly shown on TV in the early to mid 70s. Sadly, Ross Martin, the guy who played Jim West's (Robert Conrad) sidekick, Artemus Gordon, is no longer around. He passed away back in the early 80s, I believe.

 

Another series that was a hit with teenage girls was James at Sixteen that starred Lance Kerwin.

 

A popular show too was the "Night Stalker". Darren McGavin, the show's star, just passed away a year ago.

Selecta was our family's favorite ice cream brand for 2 reasons: their ice cream, mixed with carabao milk, was indeed very good and the other reason was that the Arces were (and still are) very close family friends of ours. I grew up with Selecta ice cream at home (in their trademark metal containers) and we were frequent customers at their old restaurant on Roxas Boulevard. My favorite flavor was the Macapuno. :cool:
