Tips For The Newly Graduates

Recommended Posts

Don't be afraid to learn from someone with a lower position. They see things from a different perspective

Maintain a good work-life balance.

Pay attention to all company benefits that you can avail. People tend to dismiss this because most of this is deductions from salary. It's called benefits for a reason, use it. (stock options, retirement, health, educ, etc)

Save at least 15% of your monthly salary and invest.

Show initiative. Most people will see this as ass kissing, but ignore it. The higher ups likes to see individuals who are able to work with minimal supervision and can take charge.

Never be afraid of change in any form. Take it as a challenge.

Don't be afraid to ask for trainings/help when you think you need it.

Learn to get along with people around you and never burn bridges. Your trainee today could be your boss tomorrow.

Speak your mind. Your boss knows you have something good to share. In my experience the fresh grads have the best ideas but just never get around to sharing them

If you recently graduated and have no job yet: invest on personal development courses that would increase your skillset or mindset. It is much easier these days since most courses are online.

If you got hired: learn the processes from your colleagues and build your own methodology. Stay for 2 years then move to another company/industry to gain more wisdom from your new colleagues then add that up to your personal methodology.

Always ask questions, even if it seems too simple for others. Observe and learn from everyone you work with. Invest your money. Socialize, but do not kiss ass. Be professional, Be open-minded. Maintain your integrity.

I agree on Sir @Eazy30 last part, Maintain your integrity... this is how you will be measured as a whole person.

Relax, unwind, and appreciate what you have. Being a fresh grad is quite a double-edged sword -- on one hand, you feel accomplished with finally finishing your studies while on the other, the mystery and pressure of the outside/real world awaits. It's good to take your time, enjoy for a bit, and try to learn more about yourself. Move at your own pace, and block all the unnecessary noise.

By the time you have your first job -- be patient. It seldom goes your way. Keep in mind that it's always a marathon and not a sprint. Be kind, be humble, and absorb everything you need to learn to improve. With how we're living nowadays, the pace may be moving too fast but keep in mind that it always gets better along the way.
