wierd but it happened too on my 95 lancer glxi......it was parked in direct sunlight though when a pebble hit it and the glass shattered into a thousand bits... my guess is the frame of the windshield and glass has too little clearance. so when the frame heats up it puts pressure on the glass. so a little shock or vibation serves as the catalyst on the already stressed glass surface

i prefer the stick shifts...but the problem is metro manila traffic...so the logical choice would be an auto tranny albeit going to the pumps more often......but i noticed that newer models shift to a higher gear in a much lower engine rpm than the old ones.....so some compromise has been set...
also check with your dealer if there is an auto lock built in. when a certain speed is reached the tranny locks with the engine effectively reducing fuel consumption

the main advantage of the timing belt butween the timing gear is the smoothness and quieteness.....the timing chain is somewhat a compromise between the 2... most smaller displacement diesel engines use any of the 3 to actuate the engine valves......but on bigger diesel engine the usual configuration is the timing gear, owing to its more robust nature
hope this helps
