Classic Films

Recommended Posts

some recent (last 20 years) are destined also to be classic:

Platoon

Raging Bull

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

Rocky (the first only)

Goodbye Girl

Steven Spielberg movies

--come to think of it, these are all Best Pictures already.

I realize, that collecting these would be very expensive - your friendly abusuki will have affordable versions.

some other titles to look for:

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane

Anatomy of A Murder

Mr Roberts

African Queen

His Girl Friday - this is a fun watch. I first watch The Front Page with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, then saw on the credits that it is based on another movie. I looked for a copy of His Girl Friday which turned out to be a Cary Grant movie. As good as The Front Page is, I believe His Girl Friday better. In later years, this again was remade into Switching Channels with Burt Reynolds, a disappointing remake.

Maltese Falcon

If your cable TV service provides it, watch the movies at TMC (Turner Movie Classics).

They show movies of this genre.

Other than Casablanca, which is my most fave movie of all time, I also like the movies directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

additional titles that come to mind recently:

12 Angry Men - hung jury

The Third Man - mistaken identity

Philadelphia Story - the one with Grace Kelly

note:

someone mentioned "Night and Day", the Cole Porter biopic starring Cary Grant, There's a new one recently released called "De-Lovely" starring Kevin Kline, Cole Porter songs were sung by contemporary artists like Morissette, Robbie Williams, etc in a sort of artistic biopic rendition. Great to reminisce the songs of Cole Porter

if you guys get a chance, watch "gaslight" directed by george cukor, starring ingrid bergman and charles boyer. excellent! I couldn't sleep one night and thought i'd watch this, thinking the old black and white movie would bore me to sleep. baliktad ang epekto - lalo ako nagising sa ganda ng pelikula! suspense at it's best.
