yung nick is a remnant of my childhood, based sa japanese name ng gusto ko na character nung bata pa ako haha!

ah yun, nice one! buti public yung rates nila. may iba kasi hindi nagpupublish and kailangan mo mag "fake" inquire haha! good idea yung diploma especially if mapopost as credentials to further up the business! good luck dyan! :)

and good luck rin sa thesis! haha! i can imagine na super packed ng araw ah. so day job, tapos school, tapos business? wild! congrats!

pag bibili na ako ng lote, i will definitely let you know :)

Ok lang yan, naenjoy mo naman yung last year mo dba? But I think it is better kung may financial goal ka for your future at the same time naeenjoy mo buhay ngayon.

Angyayaman na ng mga tao dito 😜

How often do you monitor your investments?

Ako kasi pag naisipan lang...i just follow my strategy to continuously put certain amount every month (usually pag sweldo),

I agree with JB that theres no pint of regretting late investment. Move on from the past, do whatever you can do today and plan for your future. 😉

To be honest with you, i have a bad habit of opening the portfolio almost Monday thru Friday to see how my portfolio is doing. Ewan ko ba, its exciting to see the 8th wonder of the world, which is compound interest, it gives you sense of gratification. I only add to my ETFs once a month though (i only buy, i never sell) since once a month ang sweldo ko. Usually few days before sweldo, i already do my budget for the upcoming month. I dont save and invest the same amount or the same percentage every month since every month is different. Like this month, i have car registration i need to pay, insurance and other bills so i think at the end of the month i'll have only AUD $1,000 left which is to small for me to invest. I usually invest in AUD $5,000 and above parcel, all in one ETF at a time pra di sayang yung binabayad kong AUD $ 9.5 brokerage fee (yes, brokerage fee in Australia is so f*ckn high). I always target to save and invest AUD $100K a year into ETFs. All dividends are reinvested as well (AUD$ 13-15K).

Kung babae lang ako pinikot na kita Sir JB 😂✌Kung before 2011 ka pala nagstart, lets say 2004, for sure you already achieve your financial freedom provided that you achieve your target of AUD100K/yr. if you dont mind, can you share how young are you?

Actually, i started investing since 2004. And now, i am looking at 2yrs time to achieve financial independence (sabi ng financial adviser ko 😉)

I started investing in August 2011 and before that i'm deeply in debt living a happy go lucky solid MTC bachelor life. But then i get married to my beautiful wife in 2011 and that's when my finances started to go in the right direction. We're (me and my wife) were not always a good saver. Last year lng namin na hit yung target naming more than AUD $100k save and invested in ETFs in a given calendar year. Prior to that, the highest it has been is like $30-$50k/year or AUD 2,500 - $4,100/month. Nkadagdag din sa motivation namin when we have a child together 3 years ago. We matured alot and started cutting lots of stuff. Me and my wife still support our parents (hers and mine), typical sandwich generation since our parents do not have the financial means to support themselves. Nung kami pa lng at wla pang anak, kahit sinong kaibigan, kamag anak, kapit bahay or kakilala ng kapit bahay na mangungutang, pinapautang namin. After ng magka anak kme, we say "No" to most if not all of it now. I realize na ang laki ng neri remit namin every month na people no longer know their boundaries and would simply demand for money simply because we have it and they dont. Well, tough luck.

Im 39 years old know and next year will hitting the big FOUR-O so im definitely not young anymore. But considere where i have been to where we are now, boy it's such a big upgrade.

I'm not saying these to brag. No, and I'm not here to please any ladies in this group for I'm happily married to my beautiful uber sexy wife and mother to my beautiful child. I'm saying these to hopefully inspire and help someone in any shape or form.

One question, bakit hindi diversified investment mo? Curious lang ako..i am not saying that you are not doing the right thing 😉

At 39, you are saving a lot kung employee ka..but believe me, maraming maiinspire sa ginagawa mo, pero karamihan hindi maachieve yang target mo. Anyway, investing smaller amount is ok as long as may future plan na realistic.

Brad I diversify my diversification by owning a miniscule shares in 7,000+ companies simply by buying 3 ETFs. Swerte, being in Australia (most G20 countries), may access ako sa Diversified basket of stocks all around the world. All these 7,000+ companies are fighting tooth and nail in giving me a good return. Rather than betting on one horse (one stock or one rental property or pound of gold or one type of crypto such as bitcoin), i bought the whole race track business all over the world. Unless magunaw ang mundo, alam ko over the long term kita ako.

I invest primarily in 3 ETFs:

1. Vanguard Australian Shares Index ETF (VAS) - 302 holdings (see https://www.vanguardinvestments.com.au/retail/ret/investments/product.html#/fundDetail/etf/portId=8205/?overview)

2. Vanguard U.S. Total Market Shares Index ETF (VTS) -3,637 holdings (see https://www.vanguardinvestments.com.au/retail/ret/investments/product.html#/fundDetail/etf/portId=0970/?overview)

3. Vanguard All-World ex-U.S. Shares Index ETF (VEU) -3,126 holdings (https://www.vanguardinvestments.com.au/retail/ret/investments/product.html#/fundDetail/etf/portId=0970/?overview)

I mean why you only invest in ETFs? Not in real estate/properties? Not in agricultural/fund sharing? Not in food franchise? Not in oil & gas franchise? Etc. I asked because the return from these are much higher than ETFs.

By the way, ako poy simpleng empleyado lamang. Wla akong planong mag business kasi its too much work for me. I'm a lazy passive index investor. Ok na ako sa ETF investment ko. Kailangan na lng palakihin kasi AUD $13-15K a year p lng ang dividend ko. Mga 7 years pa siguro baka mapalago ko na to around $AUD 52k/year in dividends. I'll be 46 by then, pwede na mag retire orag part time and consentrate in just raising my child. The problem with me working is that i spend 40 hours a week in the office. Would it be nice to spend 16 hours or zero hours a week sa office and be a world school parent like this https://www.millennial-revolution.com/freedom/travel-school-aged-kids/

Edited by Papa Popoy

I do have all of that in one or if not hundreds of companies within the ETF. Food franchise? I do own McDonalds as a company. Oil and Gas ba kamo? I do own Exxon Mobil Corp inside my ETF. Technology business? I do own shares of Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Alphabet (Google), FaceBook, etc. I own these and more, what more can i ask for? Yes, possible na mas malaki kikitain ko kung mag invest lng ako in food franchise or farming or whatever, pero possible din ma malaki rin ang ilulugi ko. Risk is a double side coin, pwedeng kita, pwedeng lugi. One way to manage risk is to spread your investment around. Sakin lng, it happens to be 7,000 plus companies spread across 52 countries instead of one company, one business or one rental property in one country, one city, one street.

In the indexing game, over a long term period (5 years or more), for sure kikita ka. So it's a volume game. By that i mean, you have to increase your savings to invest. If i have $1.5 mil invested and it grows 13% per annum because im 100% confident that my investment will grow overtime with less risk, that strategy in my opinion would always triump or a meager $50k invested, with lots of hard work, stress and time invested in managing a business, kahit na mataas pa ang kita nyan say 20 or 30%.

What matters most is the savings rate.

I fully understand what you mean by investing in ETFs. I have mine as well. What i am saying is aside from ETF you can do more..for example, i am investing in Dvboer, in 3yrs time i can get 200% of what i invested. Based from my experience, I cannot get it from ETFs. Another example is 5yrs ago bought a pre-selling condo which has 2x the market value now. Again, i cannot get it from ETFs. I agree that it is a double sided coin, pero may tinatawag na calculated risks.

Dont get me wrong sir...parang ikaw kasi pinakamayaman dito kaya kung risk ang pag-uusapan to venture other investments, ikaw ang pinakaqualified. 😄

Ang sa akin lng, simplicity is the key. If i can get the same return, yet spending just 5 minutes a month of my time to manage it (just the act of buying the ETF) OR 1 hour of my life in one year, then it's all good for me. Thats my principle, JUST KEEP IT SIMPLE. it makes me sleep well at night, less ang isipin. Less stress. Less people to deal with (not much of a people person myself). Oh the beauty of simplicity.

I just completed a VUL with Philam Life last year (when I turned 32) which guarantees at least P1.6 million when I reach 65 years old. Since 2017, I've started building a portfolio with Sunlife (P600K spread in 10 years by the time I will be 41 years old) which projects a fund value of P6.5 million when I turn 65 years old. Thankfully, my income and savings have grown significantly over the past 2 years and I was able to pay in advance 5 years' worth of premium for Sunlife in just 2 years (the payment was done last month). With that, I am planning to complete the remaining 5 years' worth of payment next year, which should accelerate the growth of my fund value by 7 years. The thing is, just like @neville's concern, I don't feel like I am accumulating enough savings and investments in order to make early retirement possible or even to achieve financial security. I have prepared an emergency fund of around P200K, which I plan to expand to P500K next year right after I complete my premium for Sunlife.

Those are essentially the closest I have to assets. I'm not really familiar with financial risk management, which is why I'm trying to explore many avenues for wealth management that won't require intensive worrying and monitoring, although I understand it is very important to ensure the well-being of any investment.

Thankfully, my income and savings have grown significantly over the past 2 years and I was able to pay in advance 5 years' worth of premium for Sunlife in just 2 years

- if i may ask, what's the advantage of paying the premiums in advance? i usually do this for loans, pero with insurance, i went term, so not sure with how variable life handles it. para ba siyang loans na may "discount"/restructuring if you wipe it out? i understand this might be related to what you said about accelerating growth, but i'm curious as to how this would happen.

- i feel you. since you recently just started, at least based on what i've read, it may seem like it's a bit slow, but i think that once you get to building a larger "base" investment fund, then the small percentage also grows. I can relate because i got impatient with passive investments so i went on to start and built a few businesses that i thought would yield a higher percentage return. overall it worked out, but looking back, it wasn't as easy as i initially thought in my 20s (sunk a few, launched a few, but overall net win, plus tuition fees)

- i'm also curious as to why you're expanding to 500k php. i understand that current teachings call for 3 to 6 months worth of salary, but as a business person, i feel like this could already be capital for a microbusiness that can net you a few extra bucks a month.

Thank you sir. Yes I sure did. I'll update after a month

So I applied for the loan this Monday .

Nacredit na last night

So today Wednesday accessible na Yung funds. Ang bilis Lang pala .2 days processing for personal loans sa Bpi

Also tanong ko Lang

Normal Lang ba talaga na 6,000 Ang doc stamp?

Tapos 1500 Ang processing fee

Nagulat ako na 6k Ang doc stamp lol

enjoy! sige, please, pabalita after a month kung kumusta? haha!

haha, wala ako alam sa doc stamps e, pero nung time ko, processing fee was 2.5k yata tapos walang mention of doc stamps. processing fee was just deducted from the proceeds. of course pinasok ko lang sa computation haha.

also, di ko nakita kung namention mo, pero kinuha mo talaga full 3 years?

yes, serious about the shipping container idea. pero ilang taon pa bago ako magpatayo na ng bahay. ni hindi ko pa alam kung saan ako titira nang permanente. hehehe. pag natapos ko na ang MA ko (in at least a year), saka ko na maiisip ang lugar.

pag bibili na ako ng lote, i will definitely let you know :)

sasabog utak ko sa pag-iisip kung paano na buhay ko hanggang next sem. thesis, ministry work (for easier contextualization), business, freelance translation work, and the personal vegetarian blog.

so much for chucking out one task out the window. lol.

i need to delegate work and make myself able to breathe. :D

nice, good luck! let me know in a year, iconnect kita dun sa sinasabi ko in case magustuhan mo yung mga bahay na ginagawa nila. our plan before was for a resort property pero hindi nagpan out kasi ang mahal ng pagship ng containers papunta dun sa isla haha!

hahaha, good to hear! iba rin may healthy relationships with parents. feeling ko kasi in my case, malaking tulong kung naging mas bukas yung utak ko sa mga sinasabi ng parents ko noon. turned out okay overall pero iniisip ko sayang rin.

can relate sa delegation. hirap ako dyan early kasi mas nasstress lang ako pag pinagawa ko sa iba. not sure if it would help, but what's helping me get over it is thinking na opportunity cost pag ako gagawa. constant questioning ng "is this worth my time." medyo feel ko nung start na parang ang yabang ko, pero hard lesson siya dahil marami ako namiss out na opportunities dahil busy ako doing things that i didnt want to delegate haha.

i think taking the initiative is a good move, so congrats on doing that. hopefully may makuha na useful data yung researcher niyo!

pano ginagawa ang mobile meditation?

medyo intense yung workload mo, so ang masasabi ko lang ay good luck, have fun! magbunga nawa ang lahat! haha!

di ko alam san ilalagay and kung may nagbabasa ba nung HR thread, so isingit ko na rin dito:

Are there any product management professionals in this forum? I'm looking to sit down and refresh my knowledge of the field, as I'm planning to hire a product manager in the coming weeks.

Looking for a product manager who would be interested in either:

1. discussing current best practices over coffee/dinner

2. joining our company

No pressure. kwentuhan environment. If you're interested in the second option, the formal interview process can start after the coffee session. Right now just interested in the current practices.

Feel free to reply or send me a pm. thanks!

The advantage of paying the premiums in advance is that it gets to speed up the growth of fund value of your investments, and it won't have any effect on the life insurance component of the VUL either. I've witnessed it personally because after I deposited the 3-year advanced premium worth 180K, the fund value quickly grew by 200K. Otherwise, it would have taken the next three years to achieve such gain. In retrospect, I've just realized how much are the benefits of being able to start saving/investing when you're young. Sunlife projects that a fund value of 600K would require 24 years to grow into 6.5 million. Just imagine if you are 21 years old and you have 600K to invest in mutual funds, that means you'll likely get 6.5 million by the time you reach 45 years old. Of course, not every one will get to have the privilege of having 600K at hand during such a young age. And anyone with that amount of money will likely spend it on a new car or anything that will become a liability in the future.

As for my emergency fund, I'm currently doing a freelance copywriting work for a multinational firm. It earns significantly a lot more compare to my previous work but since it's freelance, there is absolutely no job security in the long term. This is why I'm trying to max out my emergency fund. In the event I find myself without a job, I might as well venture into business. This is also the reason why I was asking about investments through index funds and ETFs at BPI. Considering, I am able to generate substantial savings at the moment, might as well find ways to make the money productive rather than sitting inside a bank.

Financial details given to my financial planner. We meet this Friday.

Funny enough, I'm helping an old office mate plan her finances. She's a willing student. Told her I only teach her what I know. We actually went to the COL seminars on Mutual Funds and Stock Market. She's prepping her money to open an account and invest. Nice.

Her mother will accuse me of being a bad influence on her daughter. Old school Kasi, never believed in investing. Just the idea that your kids are your retirement fund.

Yes sir .Yun Kasi Yung promo nila for the .98% personal loan .dapat 3 years talaga

Pero if babayaran ko earlier. .pwede without the fee Ng termination Ng loan

nice, good luck! let me know in a year, iconnect kita dun sa sinasabi ko in case magustuhan mo yung mga bahay na ginagawa nila. our plan before was for a resort property pero hindi nagpan out kasi ang mahal ng pagship ng containers papunta dun sa isla haha!

hahaha, good to hear! iba rin may healthy relationships with parents. feeling ko kasi in my case, malaking tulong kung naging mas bukas yung utak ko sa mga sinasabi ng parents ko noon. turned out okay overall pero iniisip ko sayang rin.

can relate sa delegation. hirap ako dyan early kasi mas nasstress lang ako pag pinagawa ko sa iba. not sure if it would help, but what's helping me get over it is thinking na opportunity cost pag ako gagawa. constant questioning ng "is this worth my time." medyo feel ko nung start na parang ang yabang ko, pero hard lesson siya dahil marami ako namiss out na opportunities dahil busy ako doing things that i didnt want to delegate haha.

i think taking the initiative is a good move, so congrats on doing that. hopefully may makuha na useful data yung researcher niyo!

pano ginagawa ang mobile meditation?

medyo intense yung workload mo, so ang masasabi ko lang ay good luck, have fun! magbunga nawa ang lahat! haha!

di ko alam san ilalagay and kung may nagbabasa ba nung HR thread, so isingit ko na rin dito:

Are there any product management professionals in this forum? I'm looking to sit down and refresh my knowledge of the field, as I'm planning to hire a product manager in the coming weeks.

Looking for a product manager who would be interested in either:

1. discussing current best practices over coffee/dinner

2. joining our company

No pressure. kwentuhan environment. If you're interested in the second option, the formal interview process can start after the coffee session. Right now just interested in the current practices.

Feel free to reply or send me a pm. thanks!

Delegation is key. I only need to learn to let go of some things.

ah, mobile as a meditation teacher....not mobile meditation :D aalis kasi ang teacher na nasa laguna, uuwi na sa home country. ako nakikita ng nandito na dumalaw doon twice a week. umalma na ako kasi di siya posible at masyadong nakakapagod. buti may isang kaya ring pumunta ng laguna para salitan kami

so yes, delegation is the only way to ease my intense schedule. now i get why big business owners usually travel on a business with pleasure itineraries. it's impossible to really leave the business alone.

i was technically a project manager with my old job. but we were not formally trained as project managers. we simply had to make sure that the orders were completed by all the concerned departments. rank and file pero manager ang job title. labo. haha
