Bad Experiences In Applying For A Job

Let me start off with MGC Group of Companies. This company sells Masagana Gas (LPG) and is putting up several LPG stations in the country.

 

When I applied there, the guard was telling me and other applicants that they are always the first to raise prices when there is an uptick in the world markets and the last to bring down prices when the world market price goes down.

 

Witht the recent shortage in LPG, I was wondering why the guard would tell me and other applicants about that.

 

Hmmm.

 

The opening was for business development manager. Since the job entailed market research and feasibility studies and contract drafting, I was asked to produce some samples of contracts and studies. So I did.

 

The GM who interviewed me did not question the sample contracts but wanted to see some improvement on the sample feasibilty study which is not directly related to the company. He wanted to see more depth.

 

Hmmm.

 

I didn't see how it applied to his company but, okay, I will try to deepen the study. So I did.

 

The whole time of the conversation he mentioned thrice that his company was a "small company". Now I didn't mind that he conducts business at an old residential house converted to an office. But saying "small company" thrice is hinting that he is not prepared to agree to anywhere close to my asking/expected salary.

 

Hmmmmmmm.

 

After improving the same study, he now says he wants me to do a feasibilty study and market research for his new LPG converter kit and find financing companies who will take on the product for customers who could not immediately afford it.

And THEN, he mentions, that ONLY AFTER I come up with the research, study and financing companies who will come on board, will he discuss salaries.

 

He wasted my time.

 

I am not working for free. He could easily say that he is not satisfied with my studies and reject my application after I submit the studies.

 

He then gave me three days to comply.

 

I didn't do a damn thing and withdrew my application.

 

Such does not speak well of the company.

I applied at Imax Group International. I find that it is a residential house. Ok. I'm already there. Might as well go with it. Position was for Sales Manager. After entering house, a big Rottweiler dog was barking very loudly and repeatedly. The dog also smelled so bad, I could smell it a few feet away. I was asked to stay in porch and fill up application form with no electric fan and just a few feet from the big stinking barking noisy dog. Another applicant arrived who was much older than me. The dog did the same thing and was handed an application form and asked to stay at the porch with a small table and chairs to fill up form. He looked around and shook his head and then left. After an hour, I was let in to the office of the owner who was Taiwanese. He described his company and products and rules and procedures. He did so in a manner that seemed to berate my experience and my personality. He asked me my expected salary. After hearing and smelling his big stinky barking dog for an hour at 1:00 - 2:00pm in the hot porch, I just gave him an astronomical expected salary and told him to take it or leave it. I knew he would leave it and I wanted to leave too. Maybe I should have left with the older guy who came and went.

 

I know I'm just an applicant. But I am also a visitor. Leaving me in a hot porch a few feet from his stinking, barking dog tells me that if he treats applicants this way even as a visitor, how much more badly will he treat employees?

I remember back in 1992. I was just out of college. I got gypped by an ad looking for management trainees,

 

The company was Primanila Plans. I filled up their applicaion form and got a preliminary interview 15 minutes later.

 

The guy interviewing me kept encircling the names and occupations of my brother, sister and friends listed as references. Then I was told to come back after lunch for a seminar. In the seminar, we were told to sell pre-need plans to the people we listed on the application form. If we sold one today, we only need to sell one more for the week and then, we will be advised on what career path to take. We were also told that relatives are supportive and will be naturally inclined to buy from you. As far as I know, everyone I listed there were already covered by some plan or another and will not buy any.

 

I felt so deceived. I refused to do so and was referred to the agency manager. I explained the situation that everyone is already covered by a plan. She had the nerve to tell me "wala na tayong pag-uusapan pa." I remember her last name, Karganilla.

 

Anyway, that's all water under the bridge now. that was 17 years ago. I became more careful in responding to classified ads from then on

I'm not sure if things are the same today with regard to job advertisings but 10 years ago I came across one company that boldly announced that they were in need of people for supervisory positions. There was no company name nor company logo printed on the ad, just an address and a phone number. Being desperate, I went to see if I could try my luck and perhaps gain a high-paying job. Once I got there, we were made to buy some application forms, hand over photocopies of our credentials, and take an IQ test.

 

The test was pretty easy so all of us passed.

 

We were then heralded to a different building and made to listen to the owner of the company. It turned out that it was an insurance company and they were giving the job to anyone who could sell the most on that same day before 5:00 pm. Pretty much like that Will Smith movie called "The Pursuit of Happiness." I guess this kind of set-up is common nowadays with programs like "The Apprentice" and some local ones I airing on national tv but I was against it because it looked like - and I think it is - exploitation.

 

Imagine, they make you work for I day so they can earn thousands while you sweat in your pants under the sun and not get paid a single cent! You just have a promise that you will be offered a job but there's no mention of how much you're going to earn nor the position you're going to occupy.

 

One of the managers, a lady was very kind to me prior to the "seminar" with their boss. When I approached her and told her I was a tech guy and not a salesman and asked if they had any positions that would suit my skills, she pointed a finger to my face and said that she had no time for people like me.

 

I was shaking with anger that moment. It was fortunate for her that I was able to control my temper.

 

I promptly turned around, walkd out of the room and slammed the door.

First and Last Interview na super na degrade naman ako (Bank, I rather not mention)

 

Interviewer: So sa Thomson Financial ka nag wowork? Bakit naman aalis kapa..ako nga hindi natanggap dyan eh.

 

Me: Actually Leaving will only be an option po in case I will be hired and the benefits are better.

 

Interviewer: (parang hindi nakikinig at patuloy lang sa pag scrutinize ng resume ko) What prompts you to apply here

 

Me: I received a call from your company and was told that one of your colleagues referred me and thought that I may be a possible candidate for the job.

 

Interviewer: (not even looking at me..) ang payroll nyo hindi na sa amin ano? BPI na kayo eh.

 

Me: ah talaga dati? but Yes BPI na po ang payroll namin

 

Interviewer: Are you married with kids?

 

Me: Yes, 3 kids

 

Interviewer: what? 3 na anak mo and you're only how old?

 

Me: 25 (I was 25 that time) ..

 

Interviewer: grabe! ang aga mo naman nag asawa! to think graduate ka ng UP

 

Me: ( I didn't know how to react...I just smiled...medyo napahiya ako dun ah)

 

Interviewer: Sige, will call you na lang whichever our decision will be... Impressive naman ang qualifications mo eh.

 

 

Time wasted! BIG TIME!

well i shashare ko na lang mga nangyari sakin few years back sa mga worst na nangyari sakin while i am applying for a job

 

1. Yung ibang application ko (with my picture) was thrown own in a garbage and i saw one of my resume in the national tv na nakahalo sa bag na ginamit sa bomb scare sa makati

2. I was embarrassed by an interviewer (yung hayop na IT sa MIT sa makati na kala mo lahat ng textbook sa IT binasa na nya) at nagmukha akong tanga (di ko na sasabihin yung company na yun sa makati kasi feel ko ayaw nyang mapalitan)

Got the same experience...!!!

It was for a PRODUCT MANAGER post, which mejo in line nga naman... from REDFOX TECHNOLOGIES

However, I was not serious enough to give in on their market research requirements for PC TABLETS, saka na if empleyado na...

 

Pero I submitted, pang-asar nga lang... Cute lang ang receptionist nila kaya i spared time to get back... hehehehe!

got this job in makati where i was under training contract for 1 month, akala ko magiging under probation na ko, despite of my satisfying job performance they told me that they would be extending my training contract to observe my attendance, medyo late kasi ako for the past couple of days during my training so hindi na ko nagreklamo, what surprised me is that they will be holding my salary till the training extension ends. medyo masama loob ko pero sa dahilan na ayaw kong gumawa ng issue, i chose to wait na lang

 

nagtiis ako for 2 weeks, then judgment day came and i was happy to hear that my training days are over, under probation na daw ako, unang tanong ko is when can i get my salary, sabi ng HR "its either tomorrow or sa wednesday" ang sabi nya before my training is , on the spot ibibigay ang sweldo after u passed the training, holy week is 1 day away and till now wala pa din akong nakukuha na sweldo.

2nd issue is i was told before na my under probation rate will be 80k after tax (not actual rate), yesterday i double checked with the HR if i would be getting 80k, he said "yes but before tax yun". tumahimik na ko, pero at the same time uminit ulo ko sa narinig ko. I already prepared my resignation letter, will give it to them once i get my well deserved salary.

Ayoko ko lang yung di nagsasabi kung tanggap ka or hindi. Syempre you cleared your schedule for the whole week or month waiting ni ha ni ho wala? I find it so unethical, I don't want to work in a company like that kung simpleng advisory lang di nila magawa pa.

 

Just want to add to this...don't send SMS informing the applicant that they should wait for their call or message within let's say a month and not following thru. I applied and was informed that the final interview will be on March just wait for her advise. It's already the middle of April. I sent her numerous SMS but no reply. So please to ALL recruiters out there have the courtesy to inform the applicants.

Sorry about your experience. Moving forward I would suggest (suggestion lang naman) have everything in writing signed by the person who informed you. Para at least kapag nagkatanungan may proof ka na sinabi ni ganito o ganoon at eto may written proof ka...walang kawala...

It was 2010, I got desperate to leave my job at that time, manage to apply online and got an instant schedule of interview. While in makati it was a BPO company, the HR looked into my CV and then saw my educational background. It was kind of degrading and even mentioned that they can't hire me because I lived in a province.

Karamihan may age limit na hayyss

then remove your age from the CV.ive seen people over the age of 35 get hired.

 

it is all about the industry you are in. if it involves heavy lifting or manual labor. age is understandable. if its a desk job. age shouldnt play a role
