Do You Believe In Destiny?

Recommended Posts

Do you believe that certain things happen to you for a reason? That sometimes a certain sequence of events happen that bring to you a certain situation you never expected? Do you believe that there are people you are supposed to meet sometime in your life?

Personally I do. But a friend of mine tells me: Nah, it's just your mind making a justification out of all the things that happen to you to keep you from going insane.

What do you guys think?

These questions are things that are pondered in "The Matrix" series. The question of "certain things happen to you for a reason" is another way of saying that we were meant to do something in this life, and that is why we are here. To this, Agent Smith has this to say: "But, as you well know, appearances can be deceiving, which brings me back to the reason why we're here. We're not here because we're free. We're here because we're not free. There is no escaping reason; no denying purpose. Because as we both know, without purpose, we would not exist."

As to a certain sequence of events happen to bring to you a certain situation, this is nothing but "causality". These are the words of the Merovingian: "You see, there is only one constant. One universal. It is the only real truth. Causality. Action, reaction. Cause and effect... We are all victims of causality... Choice is an illusion created between those with power and those without."

And whether I believe there are people you are supposed to meet sometime in your life, I would take the wisdom of Morpheus: "What happened, happened and couldn't have happened any other way."

Which is the reason I believe in pre-destination rather than free will. What will be will be. Rizal was ordained to die by firing squad long before he was even born. Judas was chosen to betray Christ before his grandfather was even born.

Pre-destination vs. free will. I think there's a sub-forum regarding that in the religion forum of MTC.

I think destiny is a word for the lazy.

it basically means that whatever you do, you will always end up where you are now, and will go to a pre-determined destination as caused by whatever.

so if destiny were true, I could just lay on my ass and wait for things to happen, because whatever I do I will still end up where I'm supposed to end up.

which of course isn't true.

all things happen for a reason, and a lot of times the main reason is you.

I think it's just a concept to explain things that happen when it doesn't make sense. It's mainly because of this overwhelming human need to have control over things, so when things happen that we can't control, we just say "oh yeah that s@%t was meant to happen", but when in reality it's just a random event, that holds no meaning whatsoever.

Well, I would like to believe in destiny. The idea sounds romantic, right? But realistically, well, life is what we make it. Therefore, whatever path we take or whoever partner we choose, is governed by our own free will (decision).

Remember that your "free will" is limited by the experiences and learning you have accumulated therefore the decision you'll make and feel as the best option is already predertermined as with everyone elses so what is bound to happen will definitely happen. The decision whether you will act or be lazy is still a function of your accumulated arsenal and again limited only by it. Peace!

"Destiny" defies "free will"... if "destiny" is true, "free will" is not i.e. you cannot change your "destiny" even you have "free will"... and at the same time, you cannot enjoy having a "free will", if you having a "destiny"...

I don't know, I'm probably reading a lot of stuff that I shouldn't believe at all...

Why is there nothing about fortune telling stories or a list of very good fortune tellers. Of course we know of Madame Auring or Rene Mariano or The Radio Boy or Mr. Nguyen etc but I am sure there are good ones which are not known. Do you know of any? Sayang walang topic about HULA.

if that includes feng shui, try hanz cua.

I think there's no such thing as destiny, by the way.

Can someone start a thread about FORTUNE TELLERS, MANGHUHULA, SEERS, PALM READERS, TEA LEAF READER, CARD READERS, TAROT READERS, CRYSTAL BALL READERS?

I had experienced manghuhula in the past. He was right on the money about my past, present and future. It was also very specific and not generalities about names, places, situations, events, etc. It was uncanny, eerie and scary but at the same time very entertaining. This happened about 20 years ago so that his future predictions then had already come to pass or would still happen. Very scary, eerie and uncanny feeling. He was known as the Radio Boy because he could talk long distance over an UNHOOKED OR DISCONNECTED telephone. His style was he would go into trance and would talk really fast, spouting your past, present and future. You should be ready to take notes of what he would be telling you. After the session, he would not remember anything about what he said. He told me that he was just acting as the medium of the "little people" that were talking to him. What made him believable was because he could tell you about your PAST as well as your PRESENT in specifics. Regarding your FUTURE you just have to take it with a grain of salt. From what I have heard is that he is no longer around.

You make your own destiny. That being said, there are those too who just have the mindset of a winner and a mindset of a loser. Case in point, I got an employee who earns 20K a month, whose lived in partner earns even less than her, nag pabinyag ng anak nila and they spent about 50k for that one day occasion. Ano 'to, winner ba 'to or loser 'to?

Without being judgmental, are they predestined at birth to have the mindset of a winner or a loser? How about luck? Is there such thing as luck? Are some people just lucky? And some people are just born na malas? Ginagawa mo ba ang suwerte mo? Or dumadating yan sa iyo? Some people say that you work on your luck. They say we are all presented the same opportunities but some can see it and prepared themselves to recognize the opportunity presented to them. Case in point, two girls with practically the same background, same intelligence, same looks, almost same everything, why does the other gets the guy? WHY? (Advertisement ng Salon de Manila)
