Hi Batibut! I reckon evening ito para slight mahangin or hindi kainitan. It's not a dressy place so wear what's comfy. Afterall we're planning to lay out a picnic blanket on the "grassy front" of the wine shop. :)

Reservations have been made for that patch of grass. They'll set up the banig and the candles. They have na that in the shop. hehe :)

April 30 sounds Fab!  Damn I hope I'll be in town for this date.

Ati,  Check na if we can sit in that small patch of grass in front of the wine shop and I'll bring some candles and a banig!!! :)  Wonderful!  Oh plus I can bring my new "toy" and load some music in it (like some bacalov mp3s) so if you have music that you think would go swell with this night save it on a cd or thumb/flash drive and we can load it onto my lappie.

Sadly Mr. Jourdan it will not all be free but I'll buy a bottle of wine from that shop and donate it for the Neruda Reading session.  Heck I'll even throw in a platter of cheese (in fairness masarap yung cheese platter nila doon).

Mr. George E, how about you pick up some Spanish chick and bring her along? :P

Incidentally, did you know last year marked the 10th anniv of the film Il Postino? As well as some Neruda anniv (I forget what).  Oh, the reason why I dropped by this thread today is because I dreamt early this morning that we finally had the Neruda Poetry reading session but strangely the setting was like in 1930s/40s Europe.

Apesadumbrado, no conozco a ninguna mujer espaņola. Still, Neruda is Neruda, and I wouldn't mind dragging my ass hearing his words of topaz. April 30, or any other day, is OK in my book.

I saw another poem i love... *sigh* when will someone ... oh well..

"Body of a Woman"
By Pablo Neruda

Body of a woman, white hills, white thighs,
you look like a world, lying in surrender.
My rough peasant's body digs in you
and makes the son leap from the depth of the earth.

I was lone like a tunnel. The birds fled from me,
and nigh swamped me with its crushing invasion.
To survive myself I forged you like a weapon,
like an arrow in my bow, a stone in my sling.

But the hour of vengeance falls, and I love you.
Body of skin, of moss, of eager and firm milk.
Oh the goblets of the breast! Oh the eyes of absence!
Oh the roses of the pubis! Oh your voice, slow and sad!

Body of my woman, I will persist in your grace.
My thirst, my boudnless desire, my shifting road!
Dark river-beds where the eternal thirst flows
and weariness follows, and the infinite ache.

erotica...

how about this?...

Adonic Angela from "Residence on Earth"

Today I stretched out next to a pure young woman
as if at the shore of a white ocean,
as if at the center of a burning star
of slow space.

From her lengthily green gaze
the light fell like dry water,
in transparent and deep circles
of fresh force.

Her bosom like a two-flamed fire
burned raised in two regions,
and in a double river reached
her large, clear feet.

A climate of gold scarcely ripened
the diurnal lengths of her body
filling it with extended fruits
and hidden fire.

Ode to a Beautiful Nude

With a chaste heart,
with pure eyes,
I celebrate your beauty
holding the leash of blood
so that it might leap out
and trace your outline
where
you lie down in my ode
as in a land of forests, or in surf:
in aromatic loam
or in sea-music.
Beautiful nude:
equally beautiful
your feet
arched by primeval tap
of wind or sound;
your ears
small shells
of the splendid American sea;
your breasts
of level plenitude full-
filled by living light;
your flying
eyelids of wheat
revealing
or enclosing
the two deep countries of your eyes.
The line your shoulders
have divided
into pale regions
loses itself and blends
into the compact halves
of an apple,
continues separating
your beauty down
into two columns
of burnished gold, fine alabaster,
to sink into the grapes of your feet,
where your twin symmetrical tree
burns again and rises:
flowering fire, open chandelier,
a swelling fruit
over the pact of sea and earth.
From what materials -
agate, quartz, wheat -
did your body come together,
swelling like baking bread
to signal silvered
hills,
the cleavage of one petal,
sweet fruits of a deep velvet,
until alone remained,
astonished,
the fine and firm feminine form?
It is not only light that falls
over the world,
spreading inside your body
its suffocated snow,
so much as clarity
taking its leave of you
as if you were
on fire within.
The moon lives in the lining of your skin.

Here's a treat. There is this book, I forgot the title, but it's author is the venerable Pete Lacaba. It's actually a collection of some of the finest poems, which Mr. Lacaba translated to Filipino. This is his translation of Neruda's Puedo Escribir (aka, Saddest Lines, Tonight I can Write). Enjoy....

Kundiman

Iyon lamang.
