Loved Mai-tai. First tasted it in Bangkok because I thought it was a "thai" drink (Hawaiian pala). It got me started to mix at home. Or try to order it from your favorite bars for a diversion from THE SanMigLight.

Mai-Tai

1 oz light rum

1 oz golden rum

1 oz triple sec

1 oz lime juice

1 oz dark rum

1/4 grenadine

1 drop of almond essence

Half fill a rock glass with ice. Pour grenadine. Shake light rum, golden rum, triple sec, lime juice, almond essence on ice and slowly strain to the glass (make sure the grenadine stays at the bottom). Slowly float dark rum. You should have 3 layers if got it right :D. Normally I dont garnish but if you wanna make it right:

-spear a slice of pineapple and cherry for garnish

-use a straw

The ever famous Martini. Every James Bond fan should have this tasted. If you love dry wine (which I do) you'll love the Martinis taste. There's a lot of variations for this, but this ones quite typical:

Martini Cocktail

2.5 oz dry gin

0.5 oz dry vermouth

Stir all in ice. Strain in cocktail glass.

Optional: Add whole pitted green olive on glass.

You could use Gilbeys for this. And for the dry vermouth, I think there's only the green Martini bottle (there are also some variations, for sweet and semi-sweet but get the green one for dry). If I remember it costs P700 a bottle. The olive only gives a faint flavor (due to its smell) but its not really necessary to enjoy the cocktail. Pitted olives can be availed in small bottles, roughly costs P40.

Enjoy.

Simple and fast.

Screwdriver

1.5 oz vodka

4.5 oz orange juice

(Right. Its just vodka and OJ but it sells around P90 in bars :upside: )

Stir all in tall glass with ice.

You can use Gilbey's Vodka but currently I'm delighted with the P150 (sale from P250) bottle vodka that had a German name (Goe....) that I can't seem to remember (or pronounce  ). Always use 100% OJ. Pure orange juice dont only give a kick of bitterness (due to the bitter membrane of the fruit) but also prevents your drink from smelling and tasting like a childs cough syrup :thumbsdownsmiley: . Get DelMonte or any Australian/Cyprus brand whichever is available.

Too weak? Add more vodka. Too strong? Add more juice. Some Screwdrivers, in fact, go on forever that way. B)

Daan lang.

While I'm currently here somewhere in europe, I'll share a mix I made that reminds me back home.

Ihi ni Maria :upside:

1 oz vodka

1 oz dry gin

splash of dry vermouth

splash of lime cordial

Shake all in ice. Strain in cocktail glass rimmed with fine salt.

This cocktail gives some tingle in the mouth due to the lime cordial. Its a bit yellow and has a salty kick thus the name.

I miss home..

Whoa parang room ko na to ah.. :boo:

I'd like to share what is in a Margarita (for tequila lovers)

Margarita

2 oz tequila

1.5 oz cointreau

0.5 oz lemon juice

Shake all in ice. Strain all in cocktail/tequila glass. You can prepare beforehand your cocktail or tequila glass (this has a wider rim) by moistening the rim with lemon then rimming it in coarse salt.

Tips:

Again it is important to use freshly squeezed lemon and to not use a lemon cordial. Rustans and SM supermarkets sell fresh lemons. Cointreau (kwan-tro) is a sweet spirit made from orange peels. I got a bottle for around P700, which is really a necessity to make fine cocktails -BUT, you can still substitute any brand of triple sec which is cheaper (around P350). Tequila -the heart of a Margarita can be a Cuervo. I've tried using Cuervo Gold but it is said that Cuervo Silver should be the one to use. Cuervo sells for P750.

How does it taste? Definitely better than to lick, shoot, and suck -BUT when the babes arrive, I'll toss away the cointreau and cocktail glass and start chanting "OK TIME FOR BODY SHOTS !!". :thumbsupsmiley:

Normally bars tend to make their own mixes by just varyig the contents of a known tasty cocktail then renaming them as their own. Normally on their cocktail menus they show what mixes contain their cocktails. What bar do you get it from?

Where's the Tea?

Long Island Iced Tea

0.5 oz vodka

0.5 oz rum

0.5 oz gin

0.5 oz triple sec

Coca-Cola

Shake all except the cola in ice. Strain all into a highball glass. Fill with cola. Drink.

Unknowing iced tea drinkers will eventually find out that their smooth drink has as much punching power as the next cocktail drink in the menu. The combination of the spirits plus the sweetness of the cola hides the taste of alcohol and mimics the tea taste. And right, there is no tea in your Long Island Iced Tea. :D

Vodka is tasteless, colorless and odorless. That makes it so versatile.

You can mix it with just about anything and it will taste good...

Vodka and OJ is a Screwdriver

Vodka, Cointreau and Cranberry Juice is a Cosmopolitan

Vodka and Vermouth is a Martini

Vodka and Jell-o is a Jell-o Shot

Vodka, Triple Sec and Lime Juice is a Kamikaze

Vodka, Kahlua and Light Cream is a White Russian....

the possibilities are endless!!!

This, for me, is the best value for money drink to order when out drinking with friends. It packs a mean punch and you only need two (or three or four... depending on your capacity) to get a buzz.

Here are other alternative mixes to the Long Island Iced Tea (that has no Iced Tea in it, btw).

Mix 1:

1/2 oz vodka

1/2 oz gin

1/2 oz triple sec

1/2 oz light rum

1/2 oz tequila

2 oz sour mix

Mix everything with ice and top w/ Cola.

Mix 2:

2 cups ice cubes

1 ounce vodka

1 ounce gin

1 ounce white rum

1 ounce white tequila

1/2 ounce triple sec

2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice

1/2 cup Cola, or to taste

2 lemon wedges

Shake everything but cola and wedges in a cocktail shaker. Pour into glasses and top with Cola, and a lemon wedge.

Mix 3

3 oz Triple Sec

1 oz Light Rum

1 oz Dark Rum

1 oz Vodka

1 oz Gin

1 oz Vermouth

3 oz Sour Mix

6 oz Cola

1/2 oz Tequila

Ice

Combine everything and pour onto a glass with lots of ice.

Cheers!
