PacMan's Corner

Can't wait for March 19(20th sa atin).

Destroyed Marco Antonio Barrera, and scored the bout with Juan Manuel Marquez in favor of Manny Pacquiao by 2 rounds(6 point diff with the 10-6 1st round).

But I beleive that this will be Pacman's toughest fight yet. Though Barrera was listed in most's pound for pound lists, and Marquez was reportedly "the avoided one", stylistically Morales presents the most problems for Pacman. First, Barrera and Marquez are of the same mold- technical counterpunchers. They do not initiate the action and wait for you to miss. However, Morales is different, very skilled. He is effective boxing from the outside and inside. Can fight going forward and backward. Can box and brawl. Has a very good jab and great right straight.

However, i dont think he has met someone with the workrate and punching power of Manny Pacman! What pac needs to do is keep on pressuring erik, what with the long jab of EM. Pressure, combined with variety of punches(right jab, right hook, straight left and left uppercuts)!!!

This will be a GREAT FIGHT!!!!!

My take, PACMAN in a decision or late KO!

GO GO PACMAN.

Next: My take on the greatest pinoy boxers of all time(Flash, Pancho, Pacman)?

I'm even betting it will be over in less than 6 rounds. One of them will finish the fight on his back and even money is on Morales going to sleep. This mexicans are just too proud to resist going toe to toe with the Pacman. Too bad for him Pacquiao has the bigger shots.

I believe in the boxing talent of the Pac Man. However, if the rumors are true, he should lessen the partying and the late nights out. A high caliber athlete like him doesn't need those kinds of useless distractions

go Manny!!!

The fate of Luisito Espinosa, one of the greatest Filipino boxers, is also, sadly, turning out badly. I hope Manny holds onto his good fortune long after his boxing days are over. As they say "Victory has a thousand fathers, Defeat is always an Orphan".

Louie’s sad swan song

Wife leaves ex-world champ Espinosa after loss

By Rey Danseco, Contributor

AT the age of 37, former two-time world champion Luisito Espinosa has lost his ring guile and savvy. Sadly, he seems to have lost his wife and family as well.

Marie Cherie, Espinosa’s wife, reportedly has recently left his husband to be with an American, Pex Aves, a Dipolog City native who is now a practicing lawyer in Los Angeles, told Sports Times on Thursday.

Aves, a friend of the boxer, said that Marie Cherie was responsible for ruining her husband’s comeback fight that could have led to another title shot.

The 5-foot-7 Espinosa prepared hard for 3 months under a new trainer named “Bob,” the lawyer added, for his February 18 fight against Mexican Cristobal Cruz at the Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium in Stockton, California.

“Louie trained intensively. The trainer was good and Louie was able to beat up his younger sparring partners,” Aves said.

“But before he fought on February 18, Cherie called her up. Once their talk was over, Luisito looked stunned and dazed. He just sat down and would not talk.”

During the fight, Espinosa was a pale shadow of the boxer whose noted ringmanship won him the World Boxing Association bantamweight and World Boxing Council featherweight titles.

Ten years Espinosa’s junior and a virtual unknown, Cruz dictated the tempo of the match, knocking down the Filipino boxer in the second round before finishing him off in the third.

“Cruz dominated the fight and was the aggressor. Espinosa had a very tough time countering his punches and suffered a standing eight count in the second round. In the third, he was hit with a flurry of punches and a hard right uppercut sent him down. He was counted out on the canvas,” the Stockton Record reported of the abbreviated bout.

Aves had his own description of what happened in the fight.

“Poor Louie was made into a virtual punching bag by the Mexican,” he said.

Aves revealed that Marie Cherie, with whom Espinosa has three kids, called promoter James Grunsky after the fight, asking that she be given the boxer’s $3,000 (about P160,000) paycheck.

“The promoter said no and gave the check to Louie,” the lawyer said.

After the fight, he added, Marie Cherie did not allow Espinosa to enter their Las Vegas apartment, telling their house manager that her husband is “violent.”

But Aves and Bob the trainer were able to convince Espinosa’s landlord to eventually let him stay inside the apartment.

“So, nakapasok si Louie at hanggang ngayon ay nasa apartment pa rin at naghihintay sa kanyang asawa na hindi pa bumabalik [so Louie was able to enter, and he’s still there waiting for his wife to come back],” Aves said.

“Ang masaklap, ang Luisito tulala pa rin, hintay lang ng hintay [What’s sad is the fact that Luisito is still depressed and just keeps waiting on waiting].”

“He is still holding on to his $3,000 check from his latest fight. He won’t encash it, he said, because he was still waiting for Cherrie and would give it to her.”

Another former world champion, Morris East, comes by regularly to feed Espinosa, Aves said. “Breakfast, lunch and dinner, Morris East gives him food.”

Espinosa left the Philippines in middle of 1998 to campaign in the United States and to acquire a green card, which he secured but requires him to keep on fighting since he obtained it under the category of “special skills.”

manny pacquiao is definitely the strongest in his class when it comes to his punches but he still has to work on his defense because if he is fighting a boxer,he is more likely to be hit by jabs. But i noticed improvements like side to side.also,he is a well disciplined fighter coz he trains very hard.just look at those abs, yung iba kasi six pack din pero hindi sculpted to handle pain, yung kay pacquiao,it can withstand punches of tyson.all out support tayo kay pacman

What do you guys think?

---------------------------------

While Las Vegas oddsmakers continue to put Ring Magazine featherweight king Manny Pacquiao a slight favourite, not a few insiders have already taken notice of the disparity of the quality of sparring partners being employed by both camps. A day after Pacquiao welcomed a group of mediamen, mostly Mexicans, into his training lairs at the Wild Card Gym, Pacquiao continues to be a slight favourite over the Mexican icon, and is currently pegged at the MGM Grand as a 6-to-5 pick to beat him.

Pacquiao is also a -125 favourite, while Morales is +105, which means that a 100-dollar bet on Morales will net 105 dollars if the Mexican wins. Conversely, if Pacquiao comes out victorious, a 125-dollar bet will win only 100 dollars. Also, the latest Toprank.com poll reveals an interesting result, which has Pacquiao being favoured by 60 percent of the respondents.

Experts, however, have pointed out a glaring disparity in the quality of sparring partners being used by both camps, giving Morales a big edge in that department.

In addition to former world champ Johnny Tapia and WBO no. 1 Victor Polo, two unbeaten southpaw junior lightweight and lightweight have been sparring against the Tijuana native before they break camp next week. Polo was the same fighter who almost knocked the WBO featherweight crown off Scott Harrison's head, if not for what seemed like a controversial decision.

Twenty-four-year-old American Steven Luevano (27-0, 13 KO's) and Venezuelan Edwin Valero (12-0, 12 KO's) have been commissioned at the Otomi Mountains to help prepare Morales.

Pacquiao, meanwhile, has been sparring against relatively unknown fighters Jose Sta. Cruz, David Rodela, Ronnie Cabili, David Avila, Raymundo Beltran, and Ugandan Justin Juuko, an aging former world title challenger.

About the only "quality" sparmate being commissioned by the Pacquiao camp is IBF super-bantam champ Israel Vasquez, who is deemed too small for Pacquiao.
