shikura, m taking the liberty of making minor adjustments to your thread title and description. if you have anything for me to add, just pm me or any mod and we can fix the thread title thru our thread settings.

as for the performance of the mac-os x. i shuld say i am very satisfied. i've always been a desktop or pc useor. got the ibook last year. its very convenient and yes, very powerful. its so easy to use! its idiot free as how my friends would describe it. so far, there has been only several times if not none at all in record that macs has been hacked with viruses. its very convenient too as its light.

however i still keep my desktop at home. keeping two computers (sometimes 3 when the proj laptop is with me) may sometimes be complicated but its fine as it makes me play dual role. i back up my files on both computers using the wonderful tam drive. another innovation that i am so thankful about.

mind you, for the record i am no computer geek. i dont even know whats the difference about celeron, pentium and os. hehehe...

i have a dell inspiron 4100 notebook, pentium III 700 mhz, 20 GB HD, 256 MB RAM, DVD and CD-R drives, operating on Win XP. ok naman siya, kaso medyo outdated na eh. i bought it back in 2002. my wife uses it now since she's still back there sa pinas.

i just bought a dell inspiron 5150 notebook last week, pentium IV 2.66 ghz. 30 GB HD, 512 MB RAM, DVD drive, with Win XP rin. still has to arrive since i ordered it online.

Thank a lot C3 :)

Hmm... power at your fingertips...

I have GOT to try one of those. My COusing bought a Mac recently. The kind round base with a flat screen monitor. Pahiram kaya nya sakin?

OOnga, konti lang nga balita about Mac's being hacked and stuff. Wonder why?

I Agree that having two PC's is really convenient. All I had before was one PC with one hard disk, then it crashed. Imagine my fustration when they told me that they wouldn't salvage the files. All the pics and stuff were there. Now, my desktop has 2 hard disks and my important files are always backed up.

As for a computer geek...hmmm... I'm not a geek as well, but what I am is a Freak. A super freak  Sex and technology... quiet an unique blending of interests i should say :)

My laptop: IBM T41 - Intel Centrino Mobile Technology

i dunno the other details and i am also no computer geek.

quite ok but there is a limited hot spots here in the philippines. battery last for 3-4 hours.

hi shikura and c3!

:) HI Tart,

Haven't seen you around YM lately a..

That's one tough cookie you have there. I lloked for the specs online and it's good enough.

Sayang nga lang talaga walang masyadong Hotspots here. Where have you tried na? Meron sa seatle's in megamall, that am sure. Not sure if there are in Makati Though.. Kung meron, Hay~ I'd probably be spending more time there. Mas lalo na around GB3, dun sa may Park. It would be just like Japan, except for the heat. It's as hot as hell today :grr:

hi shikura :)

happy easter! i usually use MSN. my laptop is dependable. back then, while i was working and electricity was cut in our condo, my laptop's battery went beyond my expected time of its performance. Good thing... it lasted for two hours for me to be able to finish my work in time for the presentation the next day.

i tried to connect at seattle - old ibm building at paseo but its a bit slow of course. i havent tried at GB3 but my officemates once demonstrated during the launching of CMT that people can indeed can work at GB3. i heard an experience before in japan: our folks needed to do a preso to a client about CMT but they missed to go down the right station. thus, missed the next train going to the client. they were able to send the preso to another co-employee who is already at the client's office using the wireless technology. though the president wasnt able to do the preso, another co-employee presented.

For your ordered laptop, whew ... its cheap :) as compared when you buy it here in the Philippines. I suppose you are here in the Philippines since you were converting Dollars to Pesos.

Yep, it is already possible in Japan

Wireless tech is rampant there. No one's using dial ups anymore and even my Grandmom, who is now 7+ is bought a laptop and is joining classes for using PCs. My cousin, who is Japanese by the way and works for one of the Company's providing the broadband providers in Japan did a little demonstration for me when we were roaming around. He had this cute little notebook, cguro the size of a steno notebook, a little bigger though. We got into the train and he was still surfing away. Then the Park, we call it "hanami", drinking while watching the sakura blooms around Ueno Park. He was still connected. Of course, there are places where bawal sya at minsan no signal pero, MAN!! Kailan kaya magiging ganyan ang Philippines??

Yes, I'm from the Philippines, Half-Breed lang nga, not Filipino though. It would be exactly 120,500 JPY. Sorry, tinatamad ako pumasok ng conversion site eh :P

$1040 lang bro, after the instant rebate na $200 yata. ang masarap pa doon, may libreng fuji 2.0 megapixels na digital cam at dell a920 all-in-one printer (printer/scanner/copier). i always like shopping computer stuff sa dell kasi minsan panalo talaga promo nila. it's the 3rd one i bought from them. i also have a dell dimension 2400 desktop with 1.8 ghz na pentium IV. btw, dito ako sa new york. :)

u should try checking out the TAM DRIVE.

its a usb portable drive. there's a 128 and the 256.

its like a zip drive na small.

it also runs on both pc and mac. super cool sya.

it makes life so much easier.

you may want to save in a tam drive for your back-up file.

hmm basta akin ASUS lang yung A2 series nila :) with p4 2.66 and 256 memory with 40GB HD, CDR-W combo with DVD reader cute sya pero di pa ako kuntento kaya pag nag ka pera bili pa ako additional memory. i use it for programming specially im running my webserver on the background kaya medyo bumabagal na ng konti with the mysql DB :)

@ feelingpogi: dude...try hiking up ur ram to 512 (assuming urs is still expandable) so as not to slowdown ur laptop while running mysql or any other db...

as for the others...try usb flash drives. they come in variety of capacities (128, 256, 512 MB)...they're plug n' play; no drivers needed for windows 2000 or xp ( dunno for mac though). there are even some with a built-in mp3 player...

RE flashdrives..

They have really cute flash drives in Japan. I knew I saw one that looked like an animal pero was never able to confirm. Until I saw an article about it in the T3 Mag for April. Ang cute! hehehe. The one in the mag looked like a rubber ducky.

Pare, tama si jourdan. Pump it up some more. am not familiar with mysql pero If your handling your webserver using that, mas lalo na sa background, you had better pump up the mem as much as possible.

Bro,

With that budget, you could probably go to a store and tell them what you want na. Unless you don't know what you want. Any specs in particular? maybe the guys here can help you out.
