Comment lang about Bose--terribly overpriced. You're buying a brand name here, not quality. Parang Mercedes Benz, good brand name, but their cars made in the past 10 years have quality-control problems.

Go for Klipsch if you have the budget.

Next would be Logitech and Altec-Lansing--they have good quality speakers, just stay away from the "flat-panel" speaker models.

Speakers?

What kind?

If you're talking home theater or audio speakers, there are many to choose from and ones that suit only certain type of music.

If you listen only to soft music, such as jazz or acoustic, Mordaunt-Short is good. The only problem is, Mordaunt-Short is hard to drive and is compatible to only certain types of amps. Matching a Mordaunt-Short with a Pioneer amp is not a good combination

If you're into bass, or oomph, a Cerwin-Vega would be good. However, Cerwin-Vega is mediocre for midrange and high frequencies.

If you need crisp midranges and highs and better than average bass, then Bose is OK.

As for Wharfedale, its performance is not far from Mordaunt-Short.

Tannoy is also good but isn't known for oomph.

Polk Audio is good for midrange

If you're a perfectionist, B&W (Bowers & Wilkins) is the speaker for you. But the price is higher than most other brands as well.

I don't have PC-specific speakers as my PC (well, all of them) are either hooked-up to the HT system or I use headphones.

As such, here are the speakers I use in the Home Theater:

1 pair B&W (Bowers & Wilkins) 800D for the Front Left/Front Right

1 B&W HTM1D for the Center

1 pair B&W DS8S for the radiating surrounds

1 pair B&W SCMS for the direct surrounds

2 x REL Stentor III subwoofers for the bass

and strictly for stereophonic music, 1 pair of Martin Logan Aeon speakers
