) Donít offer to make coffee. This is pretty self-explanatory, if you offer to make coffee, people will assume you will do so on following days and youíll forever be stuck as the coffee-man.
) Shhh! Everyone in the office assumes that if they donít say anything, then people will think that they have nothing to say, so they offer whatever they can to a conversation. Donít be that person, speak when you want to or need to. People will listen to you more.
) Donít upset anyone. Imagine upsetting one of your friends or family, now multiply this by 3 and thatís still not as bad as what youíve just done. Donít make ememies at work, youíll definitely regret it.
) Do less. This sounds weird right? But think, the less you do, the less mistakes you make. So donít try to do everything, stick to what youíre good at when possible.
) Get noticed. Volunteer for roles outside of your current project, this will get you noticed and help your networking circle.
) Learn the lingo. Come to terms with different with the office jargon. This way you know what people are talking about and will never be left out of conversations.
) Remember your co-workers. Who are they? What do they do? Remember people and theyíll do the same. More importantly, it will build a good foundation for a friendship or healthy working relationship.
) Ignore emails. Except from your boss. If itís really important, then people will tell you.
) Look at you! Ask one of your friends/co-workers (choose wisely) to notice what your ticks or habits are. Equally, notice other peopleís. Does someone have a nervous twitch? Itís always good to be one step ahead.
) Encourage complaints. This oneís a bit tricky. You donít want to do it straight away or people will take advantage, but donít leave it too late either. By doing this people will feel more comfortable around you and respect you more. It will also boost morale and the performance of those around you.
