First question: Who was the better player? Larry or Magic?

I am gonna blitz anyone who says that Magic is the better player. I am gonna defend my choice just like the Steel Curtain defended its end zone.

Hahahaha you know about the legendary Pittsburgh's Steel Curtain....dude....looks like you've been watching NFL seasons of the 1970s or you've been doing your research a lot.  LOL.

Anyway we'll start with the facts....I'll first find the stats sheet so we can start...

I'll be back....

Actually, I knew about the Steel Curtain in the 90s when ESPN had a show hosted by Steve Treble which showcased the great teams and players. Terry Bradshaw was great but the Steel Curtain was greater.

The Steel Curtain was one heckuva defensive line back in the 70s.  Mean Joe Greene was the only lineman I recognized....although collectively they demolished the offense such that they had recorded a lot of shut-out games.

Now I'm trying to find stats for the Bird vs Magic argument....dang it's hard to find one....

Now honestly I can't find an easy to download data for us to use....but anyway....

I really have to say there is a slight edge for Magic over Bird....awards and championships wise.

For the championships Magic has a slight edge over Bird 5 - 3

MVPs Magic also does have a slight edge over Bird 3 - 2

Regular season MVP both are tied with 3 a piece

Although individual stats....Bird has a slight edge

Career scoring 21,791 (24.3 ppg) vs 17,707 (19.5 ppg) - advantage Bird

Rebounding 8,974 (10.0 rpg) vs 6,559 (7.2 rpg) - advantage Bird

Assists 5,695 (6.3 apg) vs 10,141 (11.2 apg) - advantage Magic

So honestly, the data dictates that Magic does have the very slight advantage against Bird.  But IMHO this does not clearly dictate who is the better guy.

Definitely someone's gonna quote me that I preferred the player who has the most championships.  Well, yes....I used that argument on the Manning vs Brady debate on MS room.  But that argument is valid since one of the QBs has the definite edge on the championships and awards, for individual stats the other one has a slight edge.

Now Mr Mason, I'd like to hear your argument on this.  :D

But first, I'm going to watch the AFC championship, Broncos vs Patriots :D

Later.... :P

@ Tech and FDL:  Haha....looks like someone's interested in the story.  :D

Well this "garden's" concept was to incorporate success sports stories in order to spread "a lot of things", hence the YouTube links provided in the earlier pages.

And aside from the fact that a "higher calling" told me to tone down on spilling nasty things.  LOL :P

But I think we'll get to go down that "Not-so wholesome" road eventually hahahahahahahahaha

do you happen to have information about this game?

giphy.gif

Hi Tech, I'm not too sure....but definitely this is a collegiate Football game.  I never saw a logo in the video which matches any NFL team.

Point taken. However, from the time Magic was a rookie to around 1987, the Lakers were Kareem's team. Magic can't claim that he was the man in the Lakers championships in 1980, 1982 and 1985. Magic got the MVP in the 1980 Finals, mainly because of that overhyped Game 6 when he played center for the only time in his career. Kareem averaged 33 plus points per game in the 1980 Finals and if he did not injure himself in Game 5, he would have been Finals MVP. Furthermore, Magic already had a transcendent superstar in Jabbar when he came in. He didn't need to carry the team because Kareem was already carrying it. The Lakers were already a playoff team when Magic entered the league.

Larry had always been the man in Boston, from the time he was a rookie to the time he retired. He engineered the greatest single-season turnaround in NBA history with the Celtics winning 32 more games from the year before. The Celtics were 29-53, the year before Larry came, and disqualified from the playoffs. Larry, by the way, was the only addition of that 29-53 team. When Larry came in, the Celtics went 61-21, the best record in the NBA, and took them all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals before losing to the Sixers.

Michael Jordan is considered the greatest NBA player in NBA history. The supposed greatest player could not even lead his team to a winning record in his rookie season and were eliminated in the first round in 1985. . It took him 7 years to win a championship because he and his Bulls could not get past the elite teams of the East like Boston and Detroit. The Celtics swept the Bulls from the playoffs in 1986 and 1987. Bird is 6-0 in the playoffs vs. Jordan. David Stern hyped Jordan as the greatest of all time without giving consideration to facts. MJ won his championships without a prime Bird and Magic Johnson. Larry Bird owned Michael Jordan. That is a fact. I don't think the Bulls would have won a championship in the 90s with a prime Bird and prime Johnson.

Larry's road to championships was much harder as he had to go through the Sixers and Pistons. The teams that Magic had to go through to reach the NBA Finals were nowhere near the level of the Sixers of the early 80s and the Pistons of the late 80s. Don Nelson's Bucks, in my opinion, were better than the best Western team that Magic faced in the 80s Western Conference playoffs and the Cs had to go through them too.

I think someone (Hahnz, I guess) made a thread on who's the better player, Bird or Magic.  I think a lot had already replied to that.

Yes, the Steel Curtain teams of the 70s were great but the 49er teams of Montana were the greatest of all time, greater than Aikman's Cowboys. Troy Aikman is great but Joe Montana is a legend. The greatest QB of all time, in my opinion. He and Jerry Rice were better than Aikman and Irvine.

Yes, Montana's stint with the 49ers really cemented his status as the greatest QB currently (Brady lost his chance earlier to be included in the debate, but I think he will rebound in the next season).  Brady has surpassed Aikman in terms of SB rings last year.

Another Super Bowl appearance for the most overrated quarterback of all time. At least kung manalo siya, pareho na sila ng kapatid niya na may tig dalawang Super Bowl na panalo.

Haha kudos to him and the Broncos.  Next up will be the finale....Super Bowl 50.

Broncos vs Panthers
