The media can basically decide who the heroes and the villains are. Its so powerful, even the worst douchebags can be darling to the masses. Madaming beses na natin ito nakita. Ang galing talaga pag kakampi mo media. Cases in point

Kris Aquino Vs. Joey Marquez. ABS-CBN went as far as soliciting inspirational messages to all their kapamilya stars.

Vhong Navarro. Anybody with a little bit of common sense should know na malayo si Vhong sa maamong kordero na gusto ipalabas ng kapamilya network.

there must be a law prohibiting media from accepting bribes.

remember media is a mirror because it's a commercial enterprise, money drives media, and money comes from the number of viewers/readers etc.

in essence media only shows what the public wants to see. shows are stupid because the public wants stupid.

The way I see it, the media is so powerful, if it wanted to they can elevate the taste of the public. The public does not have any power nor resources to popularize a fad or a craze. I remember in my teens we had better quality of programming. We had intelligent sitcoms. English sitcoms were being aired and appreciated. In the last decade we imported foreign quiz shows like the weakest link and who wants to be a millionaire which the general public enjoyed.

This recent years however, the game keeps changing. Its all about winning the war for ratings and raking in more advertisers and sponsors. Ruse the masses to buy or spend for bullsh!t they don't need. Convince them that sending a text vote for a PBB housemate is an act of patriotism. Sell them false hopes of becoming instant millionaires. Who cares if we keep declining as an intelligent society. The masses are always more useful desperate and ignorant.

Can anyone take its usefulness or advantages naman so we can come up with a 'pros and cons' discussion?

1. Batibot, Pinpin, Awit titik Bilang at iba pa - our local sesame street. Promoted a lot of positive Filipino values sa mga bata

3. Abangan ang Susonod na kabanata- Very clever satire and commentary about pinoy lifestyle. Kahit patawa, madaming insights naman ang napupulot. There was always one character there from class A to E who was relatable.

To be fair meron naman tayo nyan noon.

5. Mga noontime shows na tagisan talaga ng talent at katuwaan lang ang papremyo hindi yung tulad ngayon na selling false hopes of becoming instant milyonaryos

6. Talk Shows na kapupulutan ng kaalaman

That’s correct.  And I think there are more advantages using or adapting media in our day to day life than its disadvantages. Like using the internet itself or any other form of media for that matter.

Grabe! This is soooooooooooo news worthy. It deserves everyone's attention great job local media.

I remember nung time na north Korea threatened to launch one of its Missile and start a nuclear war, the whole world was worried, CNN kept talking about it, at ang local TV patrol natin? Right tama yan.

This is a very good example. What a waste.

Does this mean that more Filipinos care about Kris's child rather than something world changing?

Most Filipinos doesn't care about world issues.:(  ANC is a good news channel than the local news of 2 and 7.

Sa journalism elective subject namin noon, ang sabi "A man being bitten by a dog is not news. It happens everyday. A man biting a dog, now that the news".

For me the documentary shows in local channels are good and informative to the public (most of the times).   This is where reporters/journalist get their good ideas and point of view do their best work.

The target market of media is mostly the masa when it comes to TV programs. Both are gainers. The masa prefers to be entertained considering the kind of situation they are in. While the media, the higher the rating they have with their programs, the more advertisement they'll get. That's where they get their profit.

Advertising through media is fine, marketing yan and that's really how they do their business. How else can the sponsors get their word out about their products if they will not rely on running 10-20 seconder airtime ads during primetime hours or putting full page ads on print? The only adverse effect is just to get people to buy their wares, that's it. It's business, nothing really wrong with that. Good thing some media does put up disclaimer warning consumers about possible scam on ads and inviting wary customers to report it to them once found.

I'm no expert on this subject matter and I never worked for any media outfit pero I'm sharing na lang din based on what I have noticed. The higher the ratings a channel gets, the better chances that sponsors will get to sign a deal with them. And nagkaka-problema lang is how media outfits tend to go overboard with their programming to get those ratings and attract more sponsorships. Unscrupulous and bias bordering into crass presentation of the content is the name of the game now - it doesn't matter how they do it as long as the madla are happy with what they watch while enjoying their dinner then all's good. It's no longer about bringing awareness to the people, we're way beyond that.

Same goes to local tabloids, I used to be a victim of irresponsible journalism before. They don't care about the specifics facts, the writers just put and exaggerate some details para umabot sa deadline and have it print ready ASAP. Media's don't care about the implications that these actions do to people no more as long as the story sells. In the end, pera-pera na lang talaga ang labanan.
