Haven't fully tested the processor. I'm still trying to get this damned Win 7 64 to work flawlessly. Been spending 3 sleepless nights already and I always encounter bugs in the OS (like not being able to open .cab files) Nevertheless, just by running Win 7, the action is snappier than duo. Highest CPU utilization i get is around 20-25% while running NIS full system scan.

Quad core for work. Solid performance.

Dual core for laptop, reliable but not amazing when youve tried quads and using apps that require a lot of power.

I think we have come to the point that the speed of the CPU isn't much of an importance. I think the GPU is much much better.

I still use my Core 2 Duo 6600. I think this is almost 10 years already and I installed it with Windows 10 Creators Edition. The performance is still good. What did was I improved the memory and the video card and I think I hit the upper limit for this one. I still play my blizzard games here and the performance is ok.

I may plan to replace my aging PC though. An i5 or i7 with NVIDA GTX 1080 Video Card.

My work Laptop on the other hand is a HP with a Core i5 processor and 16GB or RAM. Just enough to run 4 instances of Visual Studio 2017 and run an Ember server on Node.

It not only depends on how many core your computers have... It also depends on how these cores working.
