Reggae Pips!

I've always wanted to start a Bob Marley Thread here...and it so happens, this is the first topic that i started :) I've met only a handful of people from MTC who's into his music, including Deboinare and Dobermax (but he's more into glam rock, i guess..hehe-- peace, dobes)...

We decided to start this thread to discuss Bob Marley and his songs as well as get to know and share insights with other people who are into his music as well....

have you ever experienced seein through the lines of his songs, beyond his lyrics? revolution, redemption, exodus of oneself from himself and the world around him? have you experienced, in your youth, when you would share a few sticks of rolled hemp with your friends while listenin? are you indignant with the way other people percieve people who listenin to reggae as potheads? was there a time in your life when you felt the vibrations of Bob Marley's music that "make you wanna move your dancing feet..."(sun is shining) ?

... if most of your answers to the questions above are "yes", then this is the thread for you... if "no"--- wel, just hang out in this thread anyway! :lol:

let me start with this:

"we remember the evocative music Bob Marley gave the world; music that stretched back over nearly two decades and yet still remains timeless and universal. Bob Marley & the Wailers worked their way into the very fabric of our lives.

The superlatives, perhaps, come easy when speaking of Bob Marley & the Wailers and their music. Marley himself had been called "the first Third World superstar", "Rasta Prophet", visionary, revolutionary artist. They were not, however, mere hyperbole. He was one of the most charismatic and challenging performers of our time..."

SHYBOY..... Dude... this is courtesy of bobmarley.com

Hope I don't sound too preacy... It's just that I'm very passionate over Marley... B)

People get the wrong notion about this song... The person in the song is actually consoling either his mother or wife from the hardships they had in Trenchtown (the poorest place in Jamaica)... I could be mistaken... and anyone can add along if they want to... well here's... a little write up and the lyrics of the song... so that you may understand more... - Debonaire

NO WOMAN NO CRY

Author: V. Ford

"No Woman No Cry," a deeply personal reminiscence of Bob's impoverished life in Trench Town. The songwriting credit was given to V. Ford, more commonly known among his brethren as Tartar. Had it not been for Tartar's kitchen, Bob would literally have starved on occasion. And there really was a "Georgie" who would keep the fire light as the boys played until the early hours of the morning.

"No Woman No Cry" originally recorded in the studio for the Bob Marley and the Wailers 1974 release, "Natty Dread." The version appearing on Live! was recorded at the Rainbow Theater in London in 1975. The audio clip featured here which appears in the Songs of Freedom box set was recorded at the Roxy in Los Angeles.

- the song was released when he was still alive - Debonaire

No woman, no cry (Repeat 4 times)

'Cause I remember when we used to sit

In the government yard in Trenchtown

Oba, ob-serving the hypocrites

As they would mingle with the good people we meet

Good friends we have had, oh good friends we've lost along the way

In this bright future you can't forget your past

So dry your tears I say

No woman, no cry

No woman, no cry

Little darlin' don't shed no tears

No woman, no cry

Said, said, said I remember when we used to sit

In the government yard in Trenchtown

And then Georgie would make the fire light

Log wood burnin' through the night

Then we would cook corn meal porridge

Of which I'll share with you

My feet is my only carriage

So I've got to push on through

But while I'm gone...

Ev'rything's gonna be alright

Ev'rything's gonna be alright

Ev'rything's gonna be alright

Ev'rything's gonna be alright

Ev'rything's gonna be alright

Ev'rything's gonna be alright

Ev'rything's gonna be alright

Ev'rything's gonna be alright

So, no woman, no cry

No, no woman, no woman, no cry

Oh, little darling, don't shed no tears

No woman, no cry

No woman, no woman, no woman, no cry

No woman, no cry

Oh, my little darlin' please don't shed no tears

No woman, no cry, yeah

hey shyboy! nice of you to drop by this thread...

before his death :)

in 1975, Bob Marley & the wailers released the Natty Dread album and in the summer of that year, toured europe. among the concerts were two shows at the lyceum ballroom in london which, even now, are remembered as highlights of the decade. The shows were recorded and the subsequent live album, together with the single "No, Woman, No Cry", both made the charts...

peace out, mon!

BOB MARLEY

"Waiting In Vain"

1, 2, 3:

I don't wanna wait in vain for your love;

I don't wanna wait in vain for your love.

From the very first time I rest my eyes on you, girl,

My heart says follow t'rough.

But I know, now, that I'm way down on your line,

But the waitin' feel is fine:

So don't treat me like a puppet on a string,

'Cause I know I have to do my thing.

Don't talk to me as if you think I'm dumb;

I wanna know when you're gonna come - soon.

I don't wanna wait in vain for your love;

I don't wanna wait in vain for your love;

I don't wanna wait in vain for your love,

'Cause if summer is here,

I'm still waiting there;

Winter is here,

And I'm still waiting there.

---

[Guitar solo]

---

Like I said:

It's been three years since I'm knockin' on your door,

And I still can knock some more:

Ooh girl, ooh girl, is it feasible?

I wanna know now, for I to knock some more.

Ya see, in life I know there's lots of grief,

But your love is my relief:

Tears in my eyes burn - tears in my eyes burn

While I'm waiting - while I'm waiting for my turn,

See!

I don't wanna wait in vain for your love;

I don't wanna wait in vain for your love;

I don't wanna wait in vain for your love;

I don't wanna wait in vain for your love;

I don't wanna wait in vain for your love, oh!

I don't wanna - I don't wanna - I don't wanna - I don't wanna -

I don't wanna wait in vain.

I don't wanna - I don't wanna - I don't wanna - I don't wanna -

I don't wanna wait in vain.

No, I don't wanna (I don't wanna - I don't wanna - I don't wanna -

I don't wanna - I don't wanna wait in vain) -

No I - no I (I don't wanna - I don't wanna - I don't wanna - I don't

wanna - I don't wanna wait in vain) -

No, no-no, I, no, I (I don't wanna - I don't wanna - I don't wanna -

I don't wanna - I don't wanna wait in vain) -

It's your love that I'm waiting on (I don't wanna - I don't wanna -

I don't wanna - I don't wanna - I don't wanna wait in vain);

It's me love that you're running from.

It's Jah love that I'm waiting on (I don't wanna - I don't wanna -

I don't wanna - I don't wanna - I don't wanna wait in vain);

It's me love that you're running from.
