If Aliens Are Out There, Why Haven't They Contacted Us?

"If aliens are out there...why haven't they contacted us?"

Maraming pwedeng maging dahilan and I will indicate kung ano lang yung alam ko, pero please feel free to add.

Please note that there's nothing faster than the speed of light (at least in our current understanding of Physics) except for wormhole point - to - point travel (generation of wormhole has not been confirmed yet).

1. Maybe their distance from us is mind boggling that the light reflected from our Planet hasn't reached them yet.

2. Maybe they are on their way or doing the best they can to communicate with us, but again the Distance.

3. Maybe they were already sending some kind of communication to us, but our current technology cannot detect / interpret them.

4. Maybe they are here already but chose not to reveal themselves for unknown reasons.

5. Maybe a world government has the proof of their existence but chose not to reveal in public.

It's the distance and speed limit of light.

If an alien scientist from Andromeda (the closest galaxy from us) points its telescope at Earth, it will be seeing dinosaurs. It will take another 2 million years from today before any Andromedan will ever know that there is an intelligent civilization in our solar system.

So that means the only way any alien race could detect us, is that they will have to be inside our Milky Way galaxy. But our galaxy is 180,000 light years wide, while our civilization is only a few thousand years old. So that narrows it down to only a tiny spec of the galaxy that can see human civilization from a thousand years ago.

Imagine a planet 1000 light years from Earth seeing today how humans lived 1000 years ago. Will they try to send us a message and assume we would have the technology by now? Maybe they will. Or maybe not, after seeing what we do to fellow humans during that time. Will they try to contact us? Even if they did, their message won't arrive until the year 3018.

How about we narrow it down further. An alien looking at us from 73 light years away will be seeing World War II. Will they send us message? Hmmm, this Hitler guy looks like he could win. Let's point the telescope somewhere else.

When you narrow it down to 30 light years there's only a handful of exoplanets that can be inhabited. Too few are that close. The rest are too far.

Assuming there are a handful of alien races that are close enough to see us in our recent history, you still have to narrow it down to a specific alien race that has progressed far enough to solve the speed & distance problem (i.e. wormholes, etc.).

There may be billions of planets in our galaxy, but they are unreachable. Milky Way is 100,000 light years wide. The reachable part is very small.

Earth started emitting radio waves only in the last 100 years. Radio waves travel at the speed of light. Our signals have only reached 100 light years so far. It's a very very tiny dot.

In order for aliens to detect our signals and send a reply, the round-trip has to be half = 50 light years. Within that radius there are only ~10 exoplanets in the habitable zone.

The chances that one of those planets have intelligent life and radio technology is extremely improbable.

Do you stop to try and talk to a worm or an ant and try to explain to them about humans and our current technology? Nope, because there is no way in hell they will understand nor comprehend that we are even trying to communicate. That is my analogy. They would be so far advanced that we wouldn't even register.

If an alien species is advanced enough to find us and reach our planet I don't think they would even bother.

Either their afraid of us that we might hunt them down and steal their technology and use it for universal domination!

or

We are their pets which they just let us grow and die. Once our spirit leaves our body they take it and use it like batteries or maybe feed on it :) and they take a HUGE dump at the earth to make more land.

or

they think that we are so smart to the point we will destroy ourselves in the future so they don't need to bother contacting us and watch us fade away.

Possibilities

1. They're not developed enough. - these aliens are anywhere in between microorganisms and sentient social creatures. And even if they had technology, perhaps they didn't take to space and focused on their planet, first. Maybe they found a way to sustain themselves.

Maybe they're in the same stage as us, so we can only communicate with compatible technology. Scientists are reading "signals" and are looking for patterns that suggest intelligent life. (Google "Wow signal")

2. They're too far. - Scientists calculate that our signals from the beginning of human technology haven't even reached a neighboring star, yet. Our signals aren't even interstellar, yet. We've only recently (relatively) sent a satellite beyond Pluto (I think that thing was laun5hed in the 60s. Don't feel like checking my facts, RN)

The galaxy is HUGE!

Now there are trillions of galaxies. And immense distance between galaxies.

What are the chances that alien life "spawns" on the nearest inhabitable star, and that they have technology more advanced than ours? Super low. The nearest earth-like star is inconceivably far.

For perspective.

Sunlight, traveling at the speed of light, takes 8 minutes to reach Earth.

3. They're being morally responsible. - An alien race sufficiently advanced to reach us is likely to take us over or simply observe us, since their technology would be so advanced that they could analyze us and see how easy it would be to neutralize the human race.

4. We're not worth talking to. - Self explanatory.
