That's right. All domains have been banned and locked out except for those that are a work necessity. So, not even Google is allowed. If the techs report a terminal with an unauthorized domain enabled, and the change logs show that the employee to whom the machine was assigned was responsible, that is automatic bye bye time. I do not like my rules to be bent because they will break. Same holds true for discovery for ANY KIND of game in the machines.

We have equipment reserved for this kind of use in the pantries.

lately I've been dabbling in the IT just to keep myself updated. baka malumaan ako with the trends [after reading the thread 10 reasons why it sucks..].

I can't do a total block since wala pa akong listahan ng mga sites needed for work. Humingi ako sa supervisor kung ano ang mga sites na yun.

aba aba aba aba.. kasama sa listahan ang friendster?!? tanong ko bakit. ang sagot ay ginagamit raw NILA makipagcommunicate not only with each other but also with the US counterpart?!? so anong gamit ng sariling mail server that I pay to have maintained?!?

hay. anong akala nung supervisor, t@nga ako? the ban stays but he will not. We're currently looking for a suitable replacement not only for the position of supervisor but his whole group!

Bravo Levi!!! Way to go! That's the way to run a business. Mabait ka pa nga. I would have checked the change logs of the router and would have asked I.T. AND the supervisor to explain and justify every single change they implemented in the last 15 days with the warning that any false statement will result in a termination. More relevant too is how the supervisor gained access to the router in the first place. Binigay ng IT? Sanction the IT guys. Because unless the password was officially or even just casually given to him by IT, the assumption you can safely make is that he hacked into office equipmnet and that is just cause for termination.

Yes, but access of these sites consume bandwidth that is paid for by your office. By knowingly allowing it you allow the inefficiency. You guys are lucky.

Cheers!

Whether performance is affected or not is not the point. IT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE DONE. That is like allowing every employee to take money from the company at will provided that company remains profitable. You're lucky because you either have a boss who thinks like you, or is stupid and clueless about what is going on around him, or who doesn't care. On the basis of what you just said, had you been working for me, I would have fired you on the spot.

Your job after all was to PREVENT inefficiencies and the inefficient use of bandwidth is just that irrespective of whether actual work speed or quality has been affected.

You must change this attitude if you are to move up in the world. Because this is the root of the "pwede na" mentality of Filipinos.

i'm using MSProxy + dansguardian (opensource - dansguardian.org) to block sites deemed as online communities, violent, sexual content sites and of course restrict downloads. dansguardian is very dynamic, it's based on keywords so i do not have to maintain a long list of websites to block. you can register a very-nice-name.com with sexually explicit content and dansguardian can block it off automatically. and yes, manilatonight.com falls on the pit :)
