:) I renew my membership at Manila Downtown SHooting Assn last April at Megamall Gunshow. I owned a Sig P228 & Mossberg 590 since 1995. PROGUN Member since 1996.
After Chief PNP Ping put up the new oppressive gun license law ( 1999 I think) stopped renewing PTC & also stop going to gun club. This was indeed a dark day for gun owners, worse a lot of people didnt bother to renew their license resulting in a sort of civil disobedience. The basic fee of P4,000 for PTC was crazy, not counting a bundle of useless redtapes & hazzles.
I am a law-abiding gun owner, following every licence procedure until... Lacson's oppressive anti-gun regulation comes along! Ultra-hirap license , vip-only PTC & skyhigh fees! Ever since then, I carry it at my own risk. Call me criminal or whatever, the life of my loved ones & mine is above any govt law. Strict gun law are never meant to benefit lawful citizen but for politician & criminals. I never get into any road trouble/initan for past 20 years ( I carried my gun daily). Besides, we had a private shooting range where I "sawa" my firing, especially when entertaining frequent foreign visitors at the range.

:) Gud am, ngneer hk. Nice of you to reply.
That shooting range is company-owned & sponsored. Before, we got a lot of foreign business friends coming over and dying to fire a gun, in fact they rather spend the afternoon firing inside warehouse rather than making pokpok sa massage parlor. So our company got the idea & build a enclosed shooting range for that purpose. we let the "foreigner" in bec. 1) they dont squeak to police 2) local gun club discriminate them by charging "robbery" rate despite our being members 3) good PR
Right now, the company had strict policy on keeping this range low profile to avoid trouble. I hope you guys will understand me. To be guarantor now would put my neck at risk. But Im open to future possiblities on this matter :D .

Pareng Templar :

Mukhang d na busy si Jackie. I got my PPSA ID in less than a month.

Subukan ko nga ang IDPA. I just have to do some adjustments to my equipments since they are mostly geared for IPSC.

LoveHamster :

Konting ingat lang pre. You'll never know, baka matyempuhan ka. Better to acquire a PTC pag maluwag na.

See you guys in the firing range !!!!!

Hi! I'm totally unfamiliar with civilian shooting, but I love guns. I live in a world of MOs (mission orders). Unfortunately, I am now severely hampered shooting because I've had surgery on my left hand (I'm a leftie) which makes it unsuitable for firing anything with a kick--unless I want to k*ll myself. So kung matutuloy ang shooting EB, meron ba kayong alam na firing range na pumapayag ng rifle?

Oks pala me mga gun enthusiast dito. Used to be active in practical shooting but has been inactive quite lately. I have an ITHACA cal 45 whose modifications are bull barrel, ed brown hammer and slide stop, sa tagal di ko na alam yun sight ko, at full hard chrome. PTCFOR is so expensive these days kaya himas himas na lang. Have you seen the damascus chrome, saw one, tulo laway ko sa galing. Sa fairview lang daw ito ginagawa and it cost around 7k. Anyway kung magkakaroon tayo ng MTC gun club, count me in.

Pareng Mike, some points to consider in buying a gun:

Purpose

For Personal Carry, you should look for something concealable and therefore compact, doesn't snag on your clothing when drawn, and packs enough power to neutralize your target.

For Home Defense, concealability is not an issue and it is unlikely that you will be drawing the gun from a holster. Thus, majority recommend the highest caliber firearm you can afford since what is at stake is not only your own life but also those of your loved ones. On this premise, a significant group of gun owners recommend a shotgun for home defense for its sheer intimidation effect. They say that the sound of a shotgun being fired, even when not directed at the intruder, is oftentimes enough to scare him away.

Caliber

38spl/9 mm are the minimum calibers you should consider; anything lower makes immediate neutralization an uncertainty. They require shooting practice to be effective because based on US and Phil. police experience, you have to hit your target's vital organs for the bullet to achieve effective neutralization. This means you have to be consistently hitting the alpha zones (forehead and chest) during practice.

A police friend told me how his colleague used a 9mm Beretta on a fleeing felon. At 5 meters, he hit the felon twice on the chest but the felon still managed to run away from them and fire at them. They gave chase and at about 15 meters, my friend dropped the felon with one shot on the shoulder blade with his 45.

Majority of US military/police still use the 9 mm Beretta as standard issue gun. Note, however, that: (1) they are required to shoot a minimum number of practice rounds per week (which we may not be able to afford to do); and, (2) the 40 caliber, to which most cops, soldiers and even civilians are now moving to, wasn't introduced yet at the time US authorities adopted the 9mm Beretta as standard issue firearm.

40/45 are the current calibers of choice. They have effective stopping power and do not necessarily need an alpha hit to neutralize a target.

Budget

Having determined your purpose and caliber of choice, all that remains to do now is ask yourself how much you can spare for a gun.

From what I've seen so far, 2nd hand guns are good choices if you know the 1st owner or you are given the opportunity to try out the gun extensively and have it checked by a gunsmith. In trying them out, reliability (i.e., when loaded, it will fire everytime the trigger is pulled) and accuracy (i.e. it will hit the target you're aiming at) are paramount considerations. For unmodified 2nd hand guns with at least 1000 rds fired thru them, expect to pay around 50% of their current market price.

For brand new guns, check out Armscor's 40/45 guns. Basic guns range from 12K-20K. They're locally manufactured and exported under the brand name Charles Daly. Here, they're sold cheaper with the Armscor name. If you want a dual role for your gun (carry and home defense) check out the Commander-style 45 of Armscor.

After Armscor, your choice of guns would virtually cover the whole market. Ranging from 25k - 150K. Reasonably priced and hence, popular choices, are CZs and Glocks. Got more money? Check out the Sig Sauers and H&Ks.

Whatever it is you decide, don't forget to practice, practice, practice ....... remember a gun is an effective defense weapon only in the hands of a trained and responsible person. :)

Cheers!
