Blood Pressure

Recommended Posts

Hypertensive din ako. Been on meds for almost a decade.

For me, regular exercise is the best way to control hypertension. On days that I exercise, my doctor advised me not to take my regular meds. Without medication, my BP is 150/100. On meds, it's 130/80. With exercise, it goes down to 100/60.

Yup bro... silent killer nga ang high blood pressure. In my case, I'm in maintenance already... taking 10mg of Norvasc as advised by my doctor. Without the meds... my BP normally is at 140 / 110... catch with Norvasc (at least first couple of days/weeks) felt sluggish... ngayon ok na. I'm trying to get more physical activities... I used to be an athlete (taekwondo - welterweight) in my high school and college days... and regularly went to the gym... of course everything went south when I started working... I'm now overweight 40lbs. mad.gif

always monitor your BP when you're taking Norvasc or any generic amlodipine homologue. One of its common side-effect is too much drop in the diastolic BP (e.g. 130/50 mmHg)

Eto yung sinusuot sa wrist. Digital siya. Just press a button and in a few seconds, lalabas ang BP mo and heart rate.

The problem with automated BP reader is that, it has an error of + and - 5 mmHg on BP readings..

E.g. A 125/85 mmHg BP reading may actually be as high as 130/90 (mild HPN) or as low as 120/80 (optimum BP)..

Then you would have to consider the site..no studies I know of was done compared the reproducibility of antecubital BP by a wrist BP.

if You have a nurse/caregiver or if you have the aneroid sphygmomanometer then much better..

Yep, there is still hope that by diet and exercise alone, you would be taken of your maintenance meds (ONLY by our cardiologist, AND assuming you don't have any co-morbidities contributing to your hypertension, like diabetes or heart disease)

Philippine Heart Center for Asia has a very nice exercise regimen tailored for post-bypass and inoperable patients with heart disease alike.

Btw, try dropping by at any medical supplies store along avenida (near bambang) for cheap automated BP monitors like Omron brand.

Add ko lang po after eating , wait for about 15 mins till 30 mins before taking your bp kc if ever tapos kayo kumain at nag pacheck up kayo ng bp, meron tendency na tataas bp , meron pa pong contributing factor pag taas ng bp like drinking coffee, stress, pagod, nerbyos.etc.. Since meron po pala kayo papa jack na nurse, alam na nila yan, napag aralan nila yan and wag po kayo self medicate always consult your doctor if anong gamot ang kapad nyo. and if ever, meron adverse effects sa sa inyo na reseta ng doktor, sabihin nyo agad sa doktor, so he may be able to replace it.. Hheee....ingat!

hmmm,. One thing more PAPA JACK wag tigas ulo ha, wag kakain ng salty food kc yung sodium nagpapataas ng bp yan, i saw one of your mtc posts here, WHAT ARE YOU EATING NOW thread, doritos, junk food, high in sodium content po yan. Do not drink alcohol, smoke yan one of the contributing factors to hypertension, too.

Try to search via net about DASH ( dietary approach to stop hypertension) . Eto po isa nakita ko.

http://www.cumc.columbia.edu/student/health/pdf/Dietary%20Approaches%20to%20Stop%20Hypertension.pdf

maski pa check up kayo ng pa check up at ang tigas ng ulo nyo na hindi sundin ang bilin ng doktor wala din saysay po ang consultation and medication nyo.if ever po meron ulam na baboy, pakitanggal po yung taba or for example beef sinigang alam po natin na meron pong sebo yun, so what i do para di naman po ma deprive, just like my dad, ng karne sa pagkain nya, hiwalay ko po sya at palamigin and after a while meron po lulutang sa taas ng beef sinigang yung sebo nya, scrape ko po yun at itapon, imagine pag yun po nakarating sa arteries natin. Also, banana nga po pala wag alisin sa diet nyo since rich in potassium po yan...

Please make sure all in your household marunong silang kumuha ng bp , mas mainam po yung mercurial or aneriod sphygmomanometer, in my opinion, accurate po yun, just like fusarium_jimini have posted above, yung digital meron din pong error yun..

JOKE!Learn to know the systolic and diastolic, too..

just like my dad, explain ko po sa kanya ganito pagkuha ng bp and yung sa medication nyo po pala, basahin nyo yung literature nya, if ever wala kayong maintindihan na medical term dun, consult mr. Google, or ask your private doktor. Dapat inquisitive kayo since health nyo nakasalalay dyan...

naging "vigilant" lang po ako, share ko lang po, about this hypertension thing since in our family, we are predispose to health risk to: hypertension, diabetes, and cardio problem. My mom ( rip) died of MI (myocardial infarction), or heart attack.

Ingat lagi!

Eating physiologically causes an increase in blood pressure; the cardiovacular system is working with the digestive sytem in absorbing the nutrients from digested food and distributing them all-throuout the body.

Thats's why its advisable to do your BP monitoring at least 30minutes to about an hour after every last food intake.

There is such a thing we call "The Triad of Donahue" principle (hypertension, diabetes, heart disease) that states that if two of the disease entities were present, the patient is highly at risk of developing the 3rd disease entity.

Agree. Salt or Sodium Chloride inbibes fluids like water, thereby increasing intravascular pressure and, ergo, blood pressure..it can also cause cardiac arrhythmias (same thing can happen with abnormal potassium levels).. That's why its important that blood chem tests (serum sodium, potassium, ionized calcium, etc.) be taken as part of one's regular check-up.

Cut down or eliminately completely your red meat consumption (beef and pork).. Source your proteins from white meat (chicken [skin removed] and fish)..if you love eggs, hard-boil them so as to separate effectively the egg white (protein & good cholesterol) from the yolk (bad cholesterol).

due to risks of mercury poisoning, the use of mercurial bp app (as well as glass thermometer) are now prohibited and discouraged. Use of aneroid sphygmomanometer entails calibration of the bp app at any hospitals cardio department (every 3-6 months).

Aside from weight-reduction, your goal should be that of being cardiovascularly-fit as well.

Burn those calories on the stationary bike (much better if its an elliptical trainer), aerobic exercises, etc.

any bad effects of having low BP? aside from mas prone kami na mahilo/mag-collapse during blood donation or blood loss (although i still donate blood every now and then)

walang problem if you have low BP pre, not unless you're a trauma patient ('knock on wood')..

Also, if the low BP is acompanied by resting tachycardia (usually 130bpm or more)..these are ominous signs of impending heart failure.

Doc good morning. How come bp ko starts to spike up ng 3pm to 7pm then. Bumababa

Pag ganitong oras parang nalulunod ako. Nawawalan ng hininga. Lumulunok ng saliva as if kulang breath mo.

Care to share doc.

Ok pre..pero yung pagkain after blood letting, its a temporizing measure at best, just to keep your BP up (since bababa na ito), at least until you get home and rest..eh lalo ka nang marathon runner ka, hidi ganun tataas yung BP po..

Pag nagpa-CBC ka ba, do you notice if normal or high-normal yung hemoglobin and/or hematocrit mo, pre?

Pwede because of diurnal pattern? Some autonomics in our body follows a pattern, depending on the time of day.

When we are most relaxed (upon waking-up in the morning), we can expect that our BP and heart rate are at their lowest ebb..then as the day goes by (stress sa family, work, and sometimes even during supposedly-relaxing activities..like papa-spa for example hehe); the stress will cause an expected increase in our BP..

Kaya lang, pre, in your case, where serious co-morbidities exist, mahirap mag-postulate.

A high BP reading and shortness-of-breath at the same time may be cardiac in origin..or maybe due to your other underlying illness.

At this point, if I were you, I'd take confidence in what my MD's have told me; sila kasi may grasp sa history/P.E. and labs/ancillaries mo. Ako, puro in theory lang ma-ooffer ko, with the assumption that the labs I might have ordered (if I were the physician) yielded abnormal results.

Good morning peeps. Start your day right and end your day content.biggrin.gif

'off to the O.R. for me..'nuff said for now.cool.gif

Ok naman businesses. Ok naman family. Barkada at connections. Literally rest mode ako. At mtc.

Eto pinagtataka ko. Why ganito. Thanks doc sa first advice. Hopefully magbigay ka ng comment sa second.
