If Aliens Are Out There, Why Haven't They Contacted Us?

Space is incomprehensibly large. To contact a potential planet around our nearest star (Proxima Centauri, 4.22ly away), it would take 4 years for our message to reach it. Not to mention if someone/something were to observe and record the message at the right moment in time, their reply would take another 4 years for us to receive it. Now imagine how far the rest of the galaxy is away from us.

 

Plus we are located in a mundane part of space, along one of the many arms of the Milky Way Galaxy.
