Classic Films

There are a lot of classic films that are really good to watch all over again.. I have a number stashed in my DVD/VCD collection but for me, the best classic film is James Dean's Rebel Without a Cause.. I was an adolescent when I saw this film in the late 80's, and it made me see teenage angst from a different era.. Which was no different from the present, IMO.. The film was very powerful.. From its opening scene (a drunk Jim) to the the last scene (a heroic Jim).. The film was by far, the most influential film that I have ever seen.. And it was James Dean in his best.. He was perfect for the role.. Sal Mineo was also perfect as Plato.. A must-see for any movie buff..

And I certainly disagree that this film is not even included in the top 250 in imdb.com..

A sound of music and stephen king's the shinning are my all time favorite classic movies

The Shining is one of the best horror films that I have ever seen.. The genius of both King and Kubrick can be felt and seen in the movie.. Jack Nicholson was perfect as the "evil dad"..

Other Kubrick classic films would be A Clockwork Orange and The Killing.. :D

classic films?... naku, ang dami nito!

if you're just starting try to look for these:

- Alfred Hitchcock directed movies - notably REAR WINDOW, VERTIGO, NORTH by NORTHWEST, etc

- Frank Capra directed movies - MR DEEDS GOES TO WASHINGTON, MR SMITH GOES TO TOWN, YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU, etc

- Oscar Best Picture Awardee - although some are not so great, and does not age well

- Sunset Boulevard - my favorite old movie. An aging silent movie queen still thinks she's a star when everyone has forgotten her already. stars Gloria Swanson, William Holden

- Bringing Up Baby - screwball comedy starring Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant and Baby (a leopard)

- Akira Kurosawa movies - notably SEVEN SAMURAI, IKIRU, RASHOMON - eventually, you'll crave for foreign films and learn to love subtitles

- Grapes Of Wrath - Henry Fonda stars in this character driven movie set during the US deression

- Citizen Kane - considered the best US movie ever made. Written, directed and starred by ORSON WELLES

and many many more

Akiro Kurosawa - specially those with Toshiro Mifune.

1. Seven Samurai's - Hollywood made it to "The Magnificent SEven",

2. Yojimbo - remaid in Hollywood, western version "Fist Full of Dolar" with Clint Eastwood yung character ni Toshiro Mifune is ang basis of Clint Eastwoods role of the Man with No name. and later version "Last Man Standing" starring Bruce Willis.
