Rolex Watches

well, i actually i agree that rolex really gives us a status symbol.. my mom does not believe it before.. (she prefers jewelry).. pero ngayon, she has 3 rolex(es).. Yun nga lang, ang mahirap eh if you're maintaing a status symbol pero short ka naman sa finances mo for me huwag na lang...... There are few people that I know who acts like this way... Yung kailangan maganda ang kotse pero bulok naman ang bahay...

I have a 06 GMT-II and my wife has a 03 lady TT oyster date just... I rarely wear my rolex, coz I have a few watches on my own... In regular days I wear a TAG..

I don't really see the necessity of getting yourselves some rolexes just to prove a point that you are somebody or to make people think that you are rich. In reality, people who are really rich doesn't need to wear these things to impress. I know some people who are extremely rich that they do not need to show off anything. People around them respect them and admire them because aside from knowing how wealthy they are, they are down-to-earth, and are not boastful.

Yet, I wouldn't discount the fact that some people will be impressed with your expensive watches... But usually people who are the "trying hard" and those who are social climbers and people who are not really super rich are the ones who will get impressed. Real rich people wouldn't care because in their mindset, those things are nothing and they can easily buy them if they wanted to.

I however, do like some of them due to the style and technology... but guess im not that foolish to buy one... coz i know that I am not super rich and have better use for my money than to get me those things just for flaunting. I can carry myself well without the need for rolex. You don't even need them just because you want to get clients... It's really on how good your product is, how knowledgeable you are about what you're trying to sell and how educated and trustworthy you can project yourself to your clients that's what's important.

My father left me a rolex and a piaget that's fully studded with diamonds all over the face, bezel and even on the bracelet. Yet, I don't go wearing them. In fact, I would prefer a simple silver automatic tag or even just ordinary kennethcole/dkny watches which i find very fashionable.

Well, that's just me... you really don't need to wear anything expensive if you are confident about yourself.

I understand that some people would have to hide behind expensive things since their confidence level is low and if that's what they need to impress someone and boost up their image.

If my father left me a diamond studded Rolex or a diamante studded ring.. I would not wear it as well.. Why? Ewan ko, but I don't find it attractive even though I know that it is expensive.. Maybe a girl would wear something like that.. But not for me.. Magmumukha lang akong alahera niyan.. A simple silver datejust would do.. kaunting diamond pwede.. Or an Explorer di ba? Sabi nga ni Ms. Wyld it is a matter of taste.. If my dad ever gave me something that would make me look like a DOM, IMO.. Then I would not wear it.. Maybe when I get older.. hehehe!!!

Well, to be honest, I am tired of answering statements like I don't believe in Rolex being a status symbol, or something to impress people with.. Again, there are reasons as to why people bought a Rolex.. Investment? Status Symbol? Or just plain mayaman sila eh.. But to say that mayabang ang naka-Rolex.. That is generalizing.. And stupid perhaps?

Lucio Tan, Henry Sy, the Gokongweis or the known rich do not have anything to prove.. And they do not need an expensive watch to prove anything anymore because they are well-known.. Kahit magsando lang si Gokongwei.. si Gokongwei pa rin siya eh.. But in the corporate setting you need to have a some sort of get up, coz you are not known and you need to create an impression.. I am not Rafael Buenaventura of the defunct PCIB, I am not Yuchengco of RCBC, I am not the Dys of China Bank.. The thing is hindi ako kilala.. Having a Rolex is not a necessity to have a good get-up.. I never said that it is a necessity.. But it is a status symbol.. If people buy a Rolex there are reasons why.. And as I have said before my reason is: it is to create an impression.. again, gorpe de gulat lang.. I don't think it would last though.. It still boils down as to how you perform and how you talk/how you carry yourself.. Its not flaunting (or showing off).. Its self-confidence.. It works for me.. You may not believe it, but again, to each his own..

As Ms. Wyld said in her previous post above:

"There really no need to argue about what, in the end, becomes ultimately a matter of personal taste (and finances too, of course).

We all have reasons to wear what we wear. We all have reasons to purchase what we buy.

Live and let live... its not your life and your wallet, after all."

I have my reasons as to why I bought a Rolex.. If you don't believe me then I say to you.. Then don't.. I am not force-feeding anyone but again I purchased one.. and because this thread is asking.. "Is it worth it?" I have to admit that it is.. If it did not do anything to my personality, to my confidence.. then I would have answered in the negative..

When people say that they know a lot of people who do not need to flaunt even though they are rich.. I know a lot of people who are like that as well.. But if you go to their houses.. are they simple? Living in plush subidivisions is not flaunting? Or having a mansion is not flaunting? Having a top of the line Expediton ain't flaunting.. or the best car their money could buy? They may not be wearing a Burberry shirt, a Lacoste, or a Rolex or an expensive tie but they ride on a bulletproof BMW, and when you got to their houses.. naka-plasma sila na worth 500K.. Tons of bodyguards.. What do they need to prove? Nothing!!! That is my argument.. I have never met a rich dude who live in a squatters area and only has a Kia Pride as his only vehicle..

I think Rolex can still maintain its price over the years.. Kung baga mabebenta mo pa din kung magkano ang binili.. hintay ka lang...

btw, if you can go to www.rolexforums.com... daming affectionados na rolex owner dun

i bought a rolex for me and my wife for our forever watch, no need to change batteries, and para pamana din sa magiging anak namin. we also bought tudors since these are very good watches as well. what i want is an iwc pero can't afford

btw i've never looked down on other people who don't own rolexes, the same way siguro that people wearing iwc's, patek, bvlgari, etc don't look down on people wearing rolexes, these are all fine watches, kanya kanyang preferences yan. I also like tag, oris, omega, oris it just so happened na rolex nabili ko

the good thing abt rolex: no matter how old, scratched or worn down your watch is, just bring it to the rolex center and it'll come out sparkling like brand new. as an investment, like jewelry - its a zero operating/maintenance cost hedge against inflation.

...this is true for most swiss watches anyway, must be the brand appeal then.

Cge gamitin mo ulit bro.

I used to collect swiss watches but I stopped when the prices reached more than P 100k.

I have a Breitling Colt automatic, Tag Link Chronograph automatic, Omega Speedmaster Chronograph automatic, Omega Constellation chronometer, EBEL discovery and a Baume & Mercier Hampton.

My favorite for everyday wear are the Explorer 2 and Tag Link Chronograph automatic.

alpha quadrant,

depends if you want a brand new or 2nd hand, it will also depend on it's condition. you can try asking in lucerne or in washington. or maybe atong ang can give you a price range. ;)

storm,

only have 1 kid, boy, preschool palang, so hopefully manghihiram pa yan pag dating ng highschool. once he starts borrowing e dun muna siya sa mga stainless steel and maybe the explorer 1....saka na yung mga mamahalin pag tumanda na siya and if his grades merit it. :P
