Is Manila the "gates of hell" with "6-hour traffic jam, suffocating pollution and horryfying sex trade" as described by Dan Brown in his novel "INFERNO"?


Opinions please....


Where should the gates of hell be? How should it look like? Etc...

The gates of hell is in Revelation, wala sa Manila. So why would I believe in Dan Brown?

May point din naman si Dan Brown. Just like dun sa ibang novels nya like Angels and Demons, merong makatotohanan. Sa sobrang traffic ng Manila, impyerno talaga para sa mga taga first wolrd countries!

Napikon cguro si MMDA Chairman Tolentino dahil the description ng gates of hell nangyari at a time that he's the MMDA Chair. Eh di pagandahin nya ang Metro Manila traffic situation kung ganun pra di na tatawaging gates of hell.

Nabasa ko yun mga opinions in some blogs at madaming napikon sa gates of hell description. And yet most of these Manileņos are the ones pollution our capital city. Sila pang nag-elect kay Erap na dapat life-in-jail yun sentence dahil Magnanakaw. So kung si Erap ang naghahari na magnanakaw, eh anu pa nga ang Manila?

Sodom and Gomorrah were annihilated by God because of extreme sexual immorality.

During the early part of his political career, Mayor Lim of Manila closed down a number of sex dens whose lifeblood was fed by minors. What happened afterwards? Did other Metro Mayors try to emulate Mayor Lim to cleanse Metro Manila of street workers?

Me basis naman si dan brown eh. manila naman talaga pinaka dense. tingnan nyo pa sa wikipedia (yes I know hindi reliable source ang wiki, but yung article nila ay may reliable citations). Last I checked work of fiction yng libr niya.

Mas katawa-tawa si Tolentino. Banyero, sino namang manilenyo maniniwala sa iyo na gates of heaven ang manila! ano yun, ismog akala mo ulap Ow Cam On! Tolentino, gumanti ka na lang pag me movie na irelease. Sabihan mmo mmda mo na huwag huhuliin ung pirated copies, i kunchaba mo pa ung MTRCB.

Here's an online news report I read. Basahin nyo observation ni Carlos "Padre Damaso" Celdran tungkol sa Manila. Munghang balanse opinion nya dito coz Tour Guide sya ng Maynila.

Celdran conceded that some parts of Manila are close to Dan Brown's description: "Talagang gate of hell talaga ang Tondo at Ermita compared to Fort Bonifacio and Makati."

Celdran went on to cite a personal experience which shows how bad Manila is: "There was one time I took a person to Tondo on a tour there. She was so horrified... She vomited because of what she saw."

Sumuka ang turista dahil sa nakita nya sa Tondo!!!

Natawa lang ako sa sinabi ni Dan Brown about Manila being the Gate of Hell. There are places in the world much much worse than Manila. Just think of North Korea, certain African nations that are experiencing or just experienced civil war, certain parts of India and Pakistan, and so on.

Even then I cannot say literally that any of these countries are the gates of hell. No one living today knows where the gate of hell really is.

Dan Brown was probably talking figuratively when he referred to Manila as the Gate of Hell.

Taga Tondo ako pero ang nakikita ko sa Maynila ay ang kawalan ng disiplina ng mga Manilenyo. Sa tapat lang ng Manila City Hall grabe ang trapik at pagumuulan grabe din ang pagbaha.

Sa Divisoria at Blumentritt ang mga tindero at tindera kung san san na lang..di naman masama maghanap buhay pero dapat ilagay sa tama.

Pedestrians at mga jeepney drivers... f*ck!!! s%^@+!!!! ang mga enforcers/lespu patayo tayo lang.

Kahit ako literal ko na matatawag na Gates of Hell ang Manila... :angry2: <_< :ohmy:

Gates of hell ang maynila nung mayor si Lim. Hindi nya naipatupad yung Linisin at Ikarangal ang Maynila (LIM). Ngayong mayor na si Erap ng Maynila - Hell na ang Maynila!

Hinde lang naman sa Maynila makakatagpo ka ng magnanakaw. May magnanakaw/snatcher sa lahat ng malalaking ciudad sa buong mundo. Kahit sa Paris, Madrid, Rome, New York, San Francisco, ang daming magnanakaw doon. Hinde tayo unique. Lamang lang ata tayo pag dating sa armed robbery. Ibang usapan yan.

There are actually more places that are dirtier and stinkier than Manila, Calcutta for example. But what do I care? I don't live there and have no plans of living there. I live in Metro Manila so my concerns are the problems we have in Metro Manila. No point in comparing to other cities. Besides, he was writing figuratively when he mentioned "gates of hell". There are also bigger issues at stake. This problem is so trivial, but thats how we are. We overreact to trivial problems, and don't even get started on the "it will affect tourism" thingie. So many places in India are way dirtier than Manila. Frankly speaking its more disgusting there. My Dad swore the whole place off, but you know what despite a lot of cities in India being dirty and stinky, it still has a lot of western tourists visiting it.

Well yeah we live here so we got to make the best of where we live. I know Culcutta is one of the dirtiest places on the planet.
Yes I agree that this issue is so trivial. It's just that some people are overly sensitive and something as insignificant as this can cause these people to over react.

Gates of Hell by Dan Brown is entirely fictional and based from opinion. It's either we believe it or scrap it from our minds. And besides, nobody has seen hell yet. Better yet define Hell then base your conclusions from it.

In a way yes. Two of my friends fell victims to robbers in Binondo area last week. And the robbers are still at large, most likely waiting for another set of victims.
