Go to a swimming school - great skill to have especially considering the Philippines is a huge archipeligo of islands - water is everywhere.

Swimming is not that hard to learn - the biggest hurdle to learning is about having confidence in the water.

It'll also allow you to have a lot more fun at the beach.

First things first, Don't be Afraid.

Second, close your eyes while inside the pool and imagine yourself to be as light as possible as if ethereal ka.....in short kungbaga patay ka  by this time yung buong body mo dapat nakalutang.

From there, mag-aral kang lumangoy aso.....pwede na yun for a start.

A good way to begin and get over the fear of having your head in water is to hold onto the edge of a pool with your hands, body out straight, face in the water and kicking you legs. Breathe to the left and right side when you need to.

All practical points - you swim with your face in the water, a lot of swimming revolves around the kicking and you need to breathe to the side for freestyle.

kahit po ako di rin marunong mag swim, but marunong ako sumisid... some of my friends find that weird since how come I don't know how to swim e marunong naman daw ako sumisid. sabi ko, madali lang lumubog.. heheheh

but seriously, i guess the reason why i never got to learn how to swim was because I have this thing about water getting inside my ear.

but i would love to learn how din...

You learn how to swim the same way you learn learning how to bike. You have to earn your bruises.

Same way, dapat maranasan mo iyong muntik ka nang malunod. Pag naranasan mo na iyon, at nakaahon ka, then alam mo marunong ka nang lumangoy.

As in everthing else in life: How do we learn? We learn through pain.

You don't actually have to experience that dahil baka walang makakita sayo, matigok ka hehehe. You need to grasp for air if you want to float in the water. try mo muna sa pool side ka magstroke ... don't get nervous ... relax, do the basic swimming stroke ... the dog paddle, raise your head, lie your chest while you are moving your arms and legs alternately.

ironic, i love the beach so much but i really don't know how to swim :P it's not that i'm scared, i just don't know the proper breathing techniques coz i've never had swimming lessons.

i do know how to float and sometimes nakaka-sisid din ako. I want to enroll in a swimming class but I just keep putting it off.

I learned to swim when i pushed myself in a pool....Grade 4 ata ako nun..... I nearly drowned.....from then on, every Saturdays and Sunday....pupunta ako sa pool sa Ninoy Aquino Stadium....tapos papanoorin ko kung paano lumangoy ang mga tao dun....i had to observe the way they flip their palms, the way they raise and dive their arms in and out of the water......yung symmetry ng legs....yung force ng feet......yung pagsway nila to the left then to the right........tapos ilulubog ko ang ulo ko sa ilalim para makita ko kung asan at pano ang porma ng body nila while doing the strokes.....

I mimic every move they made....kahit pagtawanan ako ng mga lifeguards nuon.....Years passed and after months of research and hands-on practice...... they laugh at me no more.....I guess i owe it a lot sa mga nagturo sa akin na mga senior citizen......I do not claim to be good....but at least I know how to swim.

Its a skill that everyone should learn not just for the fun of it but because it may save your life.

When you see these unfortunate accidents where ferries sink etc. many of the people who die drown because they can't swim.

Last weekend I went to a lake with some friends of mine - we took a small boat out to a pontoon in the middle - I had more fun than anyone cause I dived into the water and splashed around. Noone else would get into the water cause they couldn't swim.

But be wary of swimming pools, pwede kang magkaroon ng ear infection dyan...

You should have no problems with the pools if they have been properly chlorinated and cleaned.

You can also try wearing a swimming cap that covers your ears - keeps the water out and also keeps your body streamlined as your hair is not in the water and getting in the way.
